I'm 12lbs down..motivation thread

CuglyFunt · 20/06/2022 08:32

Just wanted to give myself a little humble brag. I'm trying not to talk about the fact that I'm trying to overhaul my eating habits in real life as I find the obsession with diet talk once people hear you're losing weight really gets to me (feel judged for every misstep then / everyone watching / get demotivated if someone makes a negative comment).

I've lost 12lbs in 3 weeks (I'm very over weight). I feel better in myself already and have had a few comments from people saying they think I've lost weight.

I have set myself a target of losing 35lbs by October (at which point when I hit that target I will then set another target. I didn't want to just set myself a target of 70-80lbs right off the bat and get demotivated). So that means only 23lbs to go!

If anybody else wants to join me on this thread for a judgement free space where we can rant / motivate / share tips or snacks etc. Feel free.

First off, well done that's amazing! I too need to lose around 70lbs I'm at 15st currently so my start weight basically. Ideally I'd be chuffed if I lose 2/3st this year. I'm nearly 30 and I'm at that panic point in my life. I have an unhealthy relationship with food. When I was younger I underrate to the point of seizures etc 🙃 and now I have to be careful not to binge my feelings away.

Hopefully we can encourage and motivate each other! I'm planning on attempting 10/15,000 steps a day and sticking to a keto diet for other health issues so fingers crossed it helps me all ways. I think warm weather is helping joint pain out also to get me moving. My DC starts school soon so I hope I can now have an hour to myself daily with my dog to do just that even at a slow pace.

Should we update weekly? I do think I could definitely help motivate with the steps and recipes. X

CuglyFunt · 20/06/2022 19:43

Weekly updates sounds good :)

I also am aiming to increase my daily steps. I need to make it a part of my daily routine I think to go for a quick walk when I finish work - as I know once I get in the door I won't want to go back out again!

Also need to start have about 10 stone to lose though so it's daunting

GermanShepherdLady · 20/06/2022 21:28

That’s sounds like a good idea, do you have a tracker like Fitbit I can add you on, or is it steps from your phone?

Hey at least we’re all taking accountability though,, even on bad days remember we can talk to each other. I know I will probably have to get myself into gear a lot, but I’ll be glad for the support. Do you two have anyone else around you that supports your goals as well as on here? X

GermanShepherdLady · 20/06/2022 21:34

Random question but I’m assuming I can’t add you guys on here? Or MFP if you guys are tracking food? I can’t find a message feature either like it says there is, but maybe it won’t work on my phone.

Tesoroxx · 21/06/2022 11:52

My husband trys to be supportive and helpful but he's one of them people who are naturally slim so not always the most helpful, what about you?

GermanShepherdLady · 21/06/2022 13:42

My partner is much the same he struggles to keep his weight on and eats a lot as well as snacking over the day. He doesn’t understand either, but I think it’s good we’re doing something for ourselves.

I’m just hoping I get to a good enough weight for my son mostly, and for our future pregnancies. Plus it would be lovely to be able to buy cheaper clothes that fit well next year in this heat.

OkyDoke · 21/06/2022 13:45

Hello, can I join you all? Got a fair bit to lose! Really feeling motivated at the moment, so need to make the most of it!

CuglyFunt · 21/06/2022 14:36

Welcome everyone :D

This heat helps me I find as I don't feel as munchy when it's hot! Here's hoping for a hot, hot summer to help pmsl.

GSDlady - just via my phone for steps tracking. I really need to invest in a Fitbit!

I should sign up to myfitnesspal! I'm rubbish at keeping it updated but if we were all motivating each other I reckon that'd give me incentive. I'll add that to my to do list lol.

It's so hard to stay motivated when you have a lot to lose. Realistically I need to lose 10stone to be a healthy BMI but I'm only really aiming for 5 as I just feel it's too daunting otherwise.

Tesoroxx · 21/06/2022 16:02

I'm the opposite as I find it easy to eat healthy things I like when it's cold as I enjoy meat and veg etc but when it's hot I just want to snack 🤣🤣

wibblewibble · 21/06/2022 16:21

Can I join too? Have about 3 stone to loose - want to look better but more importantly I think it's starting to impact my health and it's restricting what I can do with my children. Keep wondering how the heck i have gotten into this situation and struggling to stick to good intentions. Heat is a downer for me as k don't manage as many steps. Hopefully writing it down and joining you will help! Just been for a walk and going to focus on healthy foods as a starter.

GermanShepherdLady · 21/06/2022 16:26

Well guys let me know if you do have mfp or join it and I'll add you on there. Would you like us to weigh in monthly, or shall we just keep sharing what we're doing? I've been good so far today anyway 🤣 it's hot and all everyone else seems to want to do is order takeaway. If I do ever give it which I know I will at some point, it'll be something with high protein and salad/veg.

I also think this weather makes me less hungry till towards bed time, so I can see your point there. What has everyone done today for food? X

I feel this way with my DS also, I hate being stared at even though I'm probably not 🙄. I find myself avoiding playing certain games, as I struggle to run after him.

CuglyFunt · 21/06/2022 17:08

I have had a 10 Cal Jelly, a Muller Light Yoghurt and my husband made us a chicken and asparagus risotto for tea which was lush.

(I was on nights last night so slept in hence skipping breakfast and lunch) - my eating goes to crap on night shifts. I've previously survived in redbull, cola and Macdonald's so it's been a hard change giving up the night time sugar!!

wibblewibble · 21/06/2022 17:54

I've managed to eat 2 healthy meals but struggled with snacking again. Does anyone have any suggestions on fitting in some exercise beyond just increasing steps? Steps make me feel better but don't seem to "show" any impact.

CuglyFunt · 22/06/2022 18:39

How are we all doing today?

I've discovered rowntrees watermelon ice lollies which are only 61cal each so I've kept lovely and cool today with X2 of them!

FHmama · 22/06/2022 18:50

Hi all.

I was 205lbs down to 176lbs now. Would love to be 11.5st (so 161lbs). Still got another 15lbs to go but so hard to find the motivation for that last stone now I don't 'hate' the way I look, if that makes sense. Still unhappy and want to be more fit, but struggling to actually stick to a calorie defecit.

CuglyFunt · 22/06/2022 20:07

Well done FHmama that's a great loss so far.

I'm trying to teach my brain that food isn't a "treat" and that other things are treats. I refused a piece of cake the other day as it was 2000 cal a slice! I would've eaten a full meal and a slice and washed it down with two or three cokes in the past. No wonder I got this big!

Have booked myself a spa day for next month instead as a treat - focusing my money on nice days out instead of takeaways and meals out.

HairyMcLarie · 22/06/2022 20:15

Ooh. I'm exactly the same 12lbs down in 3 weeks. I've got another 3 stone to go so I'm hoping I'll be done by September or October. Potentially I can't achieve that though because that will make lighter than I was in my 20s! Now late 40s!

CuglyFunt · 22/06/2022 23:04

Good luck Hairy! I believe in us all.

OP posts:
GermanShepherdLady · 24/06/2022 14:06

Hey that's fab HM.

Is anyone doing this in stages like rewards if that makes sense I was thinking after a stone I'd get my hair done etc? Then when I'm near target clothes shopping etc?

Also the watermelon lollies sound nice, I haven't seen them yet, but will keep looking.

CuglyFunt · 24/06/2022 17:50

That's a good idea GSL and very similar to what I'm doing (re-routing treat money from food to other things).

Although our toilet has just bloody broken so that's £350 to get that sorted....so that's gobbled up most money this month!

OP posts:
GermanShepherdLady · 25/06/2022 00:17

Oh Dear that’s typical really. Hope you get that sorted soon. I like your idea of what you’d normally spend to go towards your treat fund.

how has it gone for everyone tonight? I made cakes for DS and managed to resist temptation. I’ve basically had my one meal for the day because it was hot and I was lazy to make myself any lunch earlier on 🙄. I have had a lot to drink though at least.

CuglyFunt · 25/06/2022 00:28

GSH - I have barely eaten today but had lots of water. I know that's supposed to also be bad for you (not eating enough) but I just haven't had an appetite today!
