Trying slimfast for a two week kick start

I have probably if I'm honest five stone to loose to get into a healthy BMI. But I'm looking to loose three to four stone as anything more feels unmanageable. I suddenly put on three stone over maybe six months late last year with oedema which my dr says is idiopathic.

I have started a healthy eating group via my council but four weeks in have lost nothing because I suspect whatever I loose in fat I gain in water. This has got me feeling very negative like I will never loose weight.

I have decided to do two weeks of slim fast as I can see what calories I eat in the hope I can lose anything.

Day two so far. I'm not hungry at all but I suspect my painful ankles are keeping me motivated so far!

Best of luck! It’s encouraging to see the initial weight loss. Keep at it! I have a number of conditions which make weight loss very difficult for me!

Purplehonesty2 · 07/05/2022 12:19

Did you make them with the powder?

I used slim fast years ago when they came ready mixed in cans and loved it.

Tried the powder this time round and couldn't stomach it. Went lumpy no matter what I did!!

Good luck it's definitely a good way to kick off your weight loss

Haircliphell · 07/05/2022 12:23

Good luck, I've just started Exante, which is the same kind of thing this week. Done slimming word since January and lost a stone. I have another 3 or 4 to lose. I hate slow weight loss and having to plan, think about and prepare food is too much mental load for my liking.

I like meal replacements because they are quick, convenient and I don't need to think about them. Then I have tea with the family.

glamourousindierockandroll · 07/05/2022 13:00

Good luck! I'm on the low carb bootcamp at the moment and enjoying it. Loads of support on there and never hungry if it's something that interests you.

I’m making the powder up. I put in my sons Alid velvetiser and had it like hot chocolate but I’m not sure that’s going to work with the banana or strawberry ones. I might use the blender.

I did diet now years ago and lost a stone in two weeks which is a highly motiving kick start to a diet so I’m hoping I will be 4lbs down in a fortnight. I have download my fitness pal too.

I’m not sure what I will do for dinner, I might do my own meal as we are very pasta heavy in our house. My ankles are so swollen I’m praying loosing weight helps me.

@glamourousindierockandroll i might try low carb after my two weeks. I want to try to cut out wheat and then diary to see if that helps with my swelling. I might do two weeks no dairy and two weeks no wheat.

I can cope if is two week chunks.

if this doesn’t work I’m going to cry. I do feel positive it will work. It’s all calculated and easy surely!? We shall see

Good luck

Catcrisis · 08/05/2022 07:19

Good luck!
P.s. it's 'lose weight' not 'loose'

Namechangedforspooky · 08/05/2022 07:23

Good luck! Slimfast is very effective but very boring I found
the rocky road meal bars are nice

You know you don’t have to do that don’t you? Sure it will help the op with weight loss by pointing out a small spelling error.

Good luck op. With you having Medical issues have you discussed things with your doctor? Can you take anything to help oedema?

Doidontimmm · 08/05/2022 07:31

I’ve been having shakes for 5 months now but get protein heavy ones not slim fast. Really happy having them and just hit my goal weight :)

TryingNotToReact9to5 · 08/05/2022 07:33

is that stiuff still full of sugar, i'd like to do a quick kick start as well, lose a few pounds quickly to motivate me to keep going, but i remember reading how sugary slimfast is.

can anybody recommend a lower carb version of slimfast?

ps, if you feel you're going mad and can't afford or can't face another shake, have a sachet of plain porridge with unsweetened oat milk. that's about 210 calories and not too high in sugar.

3 eggs is about 230 cals and that is very low carb,

Doidontimmm · 08/05/2022 08:31

@TryingNotToReact9to5 I use these

TryingNotToReact9to5 · 08/05/2022 08:36

oh thanks @Doidontimmm
i'm going to do a kick start myself. buy some shakes, mix in some eggs as well though. I need to lose 20lbs and it's so slow and tedious.

Doidontimmm · 08/05/2022 09:34

Good luck! I’ve lost 2 st now so very happy!

StColumbofNavron · 08/05/2022 09:45

I’m in from tomorrow. I have two tons of powder (I use a whisk in a jug) and a few bottles. We are very rice heavy in this house but I’m going to try for the filling most of the plate with veg or salad.

I have 5 stone to lose. My ankles are also swollen, I have another condition which means weight on my feet makes arthritis worse, I heavy breath even when stationary.

I lost a stone a half a couple of years ago with long walks and carbs only once a day, but I need to see quick results to spur me on.

StColumbofNavron · 08/05/2022 09:45

*tins, not tons.

MySerenity · 08/05/2022 09:49

With these sorts of diets you will wreck your metabolism- and then regain the weight again afterwards.
I'd do something more sustainable.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 08/05/2022 09:53

Hi OP, I dug out my slim fast powder from the back of the cupboard yesterday to do exactly this! I’m having surgery 2 weeks tomorrow and I’d like to shift a few pounds before then, so have also decided to do a 2-week kickstart.

As an aside have you tried the cafe latte flavour? I mix it with half water half skimmed milk and put a couple of ice cubes in the blender too, which thickens it up, weirdly! It’s the only flavour I like really, it’s like having a posh iced coffee 😊 Good luck!

I think that’s why it’s being used as a kick start rather than a long term weight loss solution. A few people have already mentioned low carb/other things they plan on post kick start.

DolphinaPD · 08/05/2022 11:26

I'm starting shakes only tomorrow, I'm aiming for a week at the moment but will try to continue. For now I need to take it meal by meal.

I'm.dyslexic so most of what I write is wrong, I will try to remember 😂

My gp is not supportive. Basically I have to suck it up nothings causing it and I have just started 7 antihistamines a day. I would like to know what if anything in allergic too. I'm waiting on a ana blood test results so hopefully not autoimmune. Gp doesnt think it will be.

I think the sugar and metabolism thing is why it's not recommended for more than 6 weeks without a break then going back on it. It take more than two weeks to damage your metabolism and if you eat a evening meal it's still over a 1000 calories.

I went to a date yesterday and had a burger instead of my evening meal. This is going to be hard!

yes oats come in as the same calories as a slim fast @TryingNotToReact9to5 and a half tin of soup looks not to bad either. Two poached on wholemeal toast etc.

I'm going to write all these 200 calories meals down for when my two weeks are up. I think the weekends with kids is going to be very tough. No more fates!

I'm glad to hear it's worked for some and others are joining me. I'm so hoping I loose at least 4lbs.

TryingNotToReact9to5 · 08/05/2022 15:46

I think it's also ok to create real food "meal replacements" with 300-350 calories but have fewer of them. 3 meals carefully planned to come in under 330 is going to leave you less starving. Try to get to 12.00, push out breakfast. Then you have two more meals.

I know if i kept that up for 3 weeks i would lose weight. It's just DOING it.
Im up to my neck in calculations all day, why not have one more set of calorie calcs on the go?!
