Trying slimfast for a two week kick start

IncessantNameChanger · 07/05/2022 11:56

I have probably if I'm honest five stone to loose to get into a healthy BMI. But I'm looking to loose three to four stone as anything more feels unmanageable. I suddenly put on three stone over maybe six months late last year with oedema which my dr says is idiopathic.

I have started a healthy eating group via my council but four weeks in have lost nothing because I suspect whatever I loose in fat I gain in water. This has got me feeling very negative like I will never loose weight.

I have decided to do two weeks of slim fast as I can see what calories I eat in the hope I can lose anything.

Day two so far. I'm not hungry at all but I suspect my painful ankles are keeping me motivated so far!

@TryingNotToReact9to5 that

@TryingNotToReact9to5 that's what I have been doing for the last four weeks and lost nothing. This way I know I cant possibly have got the portion size or weigh wrong so I dont loose weight I can be sure I'm gaining more in oedema than I'm losing in fat.

Honestly it's been driving me mad and I'm so disappointed. If I dont loose weight in two weeks I can try a private gp and justify the costs because right now I just feel like I dont have oedema I'm just very fat.

I'm doing the same, only with the slimfast keto shakes as I need to low carb too. Planning on salads for dinners, with plenty of protein.

Good luck!

IncessantNameChanger · 09/05/2022 08:18

I know you should only weigh yourself once a week but I think I have lost a pound.

I’ve opted for a breakfast as well as dinner today.

grabola, yoghurt plus coffee 311 calories
will have a slimfast for lunch
normal dinner with plenty of veg/salad

IncessantNameChanger · 09/05/2022 08:56

I'm going to try to eat as late as possible today so if I want proper lunch I have more options.

I've not done great today. I ended up ordering Pret. That said, I am now very satisfied and at 1200 cals. So I might have some boiled eggs whites and tomatoes later with a cup of tea (I don't actually like yolks and really like this snack).

Purplehonesty2 · 09/05/2022 17:11

I've been low carving for three weeks and I can see a big difference in my stomach and my face. My skin is so much clearer too as I've been cutting out a lot of sugar.

I'm a chocolate / sweet addict so it's really hard but also pays off!

Drinking lots of water too, lots of berries and salads and feta / chicken / prawns. Tasty diet but I wouldn't want to do it in the winter!!

Tryhard40 · 09/05/2022 17:31

Hi OP, just wanted to come on here and say that you really don't NEED to do slim fast - it's basically just a calorie-deficit diet. Slim fast shakes have about 250cals each so you could eat 3x250 cal meals instead if you'd enjoy it better like a small tin of beans on 1 slice whole meal toast, chicken/tuna salad, 2x poached eggs on one slice toast etc. Maybe have 2 bananas and an apple or porridge for breakfast? I just always think it's surely better (and healthier) to eat proper food?

But if you enjoy the shakes crack on of course!

IncessantNameChanger · 09/05/2022 17:48

@Tryhard40 I'm doing a mix of the shakes and replacing them with same calorie meal. But it's the ease and knowing I have had that exact amount of calories iykwim? I tell health professionals I didnt loose weight on 1400-1600 cals a day for a month and I know they dont believe me. I'm not I believe myself I wonder if I was secretly in denial? Theres no where to hide like this. It's only two weeks.

Saying that I weighed some French stick and made that 400 cals for brunch so no shake today yet. I'm off to the gym in a bit 😭.

I can either have a shake for lunch volunteering tomorrow or eat lunch at 4pm. Or find a 200 calorie lunch? I might take some weetabix but I'm worried I'm eating too much wheat.

We all know how to lose weight it's just doing it. I feel lethargic about starting but if i could get the first ten poinds off id have no problem low carbing (although im going to choose a low carb shake)
It's about getting motivated.

IncessantNameChanger · 09/05/2022 20:28

Yes I dont feel motivated but I'm sure I'd feel more motivated if I actually lost something at the end of the week.

I decided not to do shakes too. I'm doing OMAD/23:1, but only meat, cheese, eggs, salad or green veg and water.

Did it today and yesterday and am getting on fine with it so far.

How are you getting on op?

IncessantNameChanger · 12/05/2022 09:12

It's been a week now and I have lost 6lbs so that's amazing. I have only had done a few shakes and mainly sticking to meals that are the same calories as the shakes.

How is everyone else doing?

Lots of people are wants to lose body weight very fast, but many of them are don't know the proper solution.

Following proper food diet, avoid junk food items, drinking plenty of water and doing simple workouts gives good results.

IncessantNameChanger · 12/05/2022 10:44

@jeffersonsam I'm on a 10 week NHS weight loss program too. This is just a kickstart.

It's much easier and motivating to loose weight longer term if you start off with good losses.

4 weeks into the NHS program I had lost nothing and wanted to give up

Just remember that if you see the weight loss stall it will very likely be down to the oedema! I had it very severely in both legs last year. Due to another health issue was an in patient in hospital for 2 weeks. After the first week the oedema suddenly sorted itself out and I lost all the excess fluid. The nurse accused me of hiding my food and not eating because I lost half a stone in a matter of days!! I tried to explain it was fluid loss but could see she didn't believe me!

IncessantNameChanger · 12/05/2022 13:26

@Catrice I'm praying that if could possibly get out of the obese BMI it might help my odema.

I do think I was possibly losing fat on the NHS diet but it was being gained in water.

I do feel more in control this week. It's much eeasier knowing I can loose weight. I didnt think anything was going to work.

I think the sugar and metabolism thing is why it's not recommended for more than 6 weeks without a break then going back on it. It take more than two weeks to damage your metabolism and if you eat a evening meal it's still over a 1000 calories.

I went to a date yesterday and had a burger instead of my evening meal. This is going to be hard!

yes oats come in as the same calories as a slim fast @TryingNotToReact9to5 and a half tin of soup looks not to bad either. Two poached on wholemeal toast etc.

I'm going to write all these 200 calories meals down for when my two weeks are up. I think the weekends with kids is going to be very tough. No more fates!

I'm glad to hear it's worked for some and others are joining me. I'm so hoping I loose at least 4lbs.

How did you get on?

IncessantNameChanger · 27/05/2022 22:25

I lost 10lbs.

Didnt really stick to it religiously at the weekends so could have lost more but it's not bad. I'm going to carry on over half term if I can because I'm not convinced having thr kids at home 27/7 is the right time to start a healthy eating plan.

I tried to stick to 400 calories during the day and a sensible evening meal.

FawnFrenchieMum · 28/05/2022 20:03

Thanks, thinking kick starting with it this week. I just can’t get organised enough to think of low calories meals all day every day.

JJ57 · 18/06/2024 08:01

I have found that if I put the powder in a glass, add a small amount of cold water, I can then mix into a paste, a little like mixing royal icing. Then add milk gradually, stirring. Voila, no lumps! 😊
