@thatyouleaveinspace, sorry to read you’re not doing too good. Have you spoken to your surgeon? Does it all seem normal? I hope you start to feel better soon.

MagentaRocks · 11/04/2022 17:55

@thatyouleaveinspace don’t expect too much too soon. I am just over 3 weeks out and still have good and bad days. The pain will ease. It takes a while for your stomach to recover. It will be bruised for a while. The end result will be worth it and in a few weeks when you don’t have much pain and the weight it coming off it will be a distant memory.

@thatyouleaveinspace

Hi all I'm home from hospital I had my gastric sleeve Saturday. It's been very very tough I can't lie I'm not feeling physically very well right now But I'm thinking of the end result Xx
I was really bad for the first week or two. I had to stay an extra night at hospital because even the smallest sip made me feel sick and gave me what I now recognise as a ‘restriction’ feeling. But after that time my recovery has been great. I do have quite a tight restriction which I’m happy about.
JaneIsInsane · 11/04/2022 22:05

Can I ask a question of those who are past the 6mths mark? Can you eat pretty much anything but just smaller amounts? One of my biggest worries is not being able to eat socially or with my family. Are you ok if you avoid heavy carbs? Ideally, I’d like to still be able to go out and eat things like fish and veg without it being completely impossible to finish or totally obvious to everyone that I cannot eat normally. Is this possible for most people? Thank you.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 11/04/2022 22:41

I’m not even 3 months out and I can eat most things. I’ve eaten out loads. I don’t eat bread as it sits strangely and I don’t enjoy it, which I hope continues because bread was always my down fall. I usually order a sharing plate with my other half or meze so it’s not as obvious.

MagentaRocks · 12/04/2022 12:54

@Twinsandsome

Good luck tomorrow. If you can let us know you are checked in ok today and how it goes tomorrow. Look forward to seeing your updates after the surgery.

JaneIsInsane · 12/04/2022 13:31

Thank you @WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor. That’s really good to hear. I’m more worried about eating out with friends and work colleagues as I don’t want to tell anyone other than DH. So I’m hoping I can manage to order and eat bits of two courses so as not to arouse suspicion.

I’ve found people are completely oblivious. I fake drank alcohol too at the beginning because I knew that would raise eyebrows. People are amazingly unaware.

Was 4 weeks post op yesterday. Feeling great. I had to drive a lot longer than normal yesterday and for the first time no pain in my side which is great. I am going to the gym every other day, desperate to do more but sticking to the bike for now and until my 6 week check up with the surgeon. Total loss in 7 weeks, including the LRD is 30lb. I feel so much happier. I have less than a week until normal food. But I am still going to take it easy. Still only eating small amounts, but I am ok with that. The family are having Chinese tonight so I might have a few spoons of DHs egg fried rice. Won’t be able to eat much of it but it will be nice to have something different.

@Twinsandsome been thinking about you, hope you are doing ok. Look forward to hearing about it.

After months and months of research, I've booked to go to Turkey for a mini bypass mid-Aug - bricking it now! 🙈

Twinsandsome · 17/04/2022 14:26

@MagentaRocks

I am sorry I am only posting now but I wanted to know I was home safe and well before saying things where good if that makes since.

Just want to document this for myself as much as others as I love how we have all completed this journey in different ways but hoping for the same outcomes and I can hand on heart say I wouldn't have taken the plunge had it not been for these 3 threads regards of all the resource I had been doing so thank you everyone on these boards 🥰

I arrived Tuesday night/wed morn at about 5am, my sister came with me. I was taken to my room and told I should have a shower which I did and then they would be round to take bloods. I pressed the buzzer to say ready for bloods and a man appeared (I wonder if maybe a porter uk terms) and said come and I went off with him in a lift downstairs to radiography and had a scan of my stomach and liver he then took me back to room and I got on the bed thinking should I go to Sleep or what and then a nurse came in with stuff to do bloods. Now I have terrible veins and the poor wee thing was like yes we get people with bad veins but yours are the worst (she was still being kind) so she got another nurse, then another and so it went on til 4 was trying and I just let them keep trying but anytime they found a vein as soon as needle went in the vein collapsed and they talked about getting someone from icu to try and get Cannula in then this male nurse I assumed to be from icu arrived and he started and I mean he had no mercy and at this point after 2 hours I looked at my sister and said I want to go home. The nurses bar the man from (well to be honest I'm still not sure where he appeared from and I never seen him the rest of my stay thankfully) where lovely and kept rubbing my arm saying it would be ok we will try and get a blood sample for now and then in theatre put in a line and just at that this nurse appeared and introduced herself as working in icu and not to worry etc and on first try without me even realising got the cannula in! I was told any movement and it could pop out on I had to lay with arm hanging out of bed and to be honest I was so tired I just thought aww why am i doing this and then my surgeon came in and said your results are good we will get you sorted in surgery after your endoscopy which was 100% they sprayed a spray and it was over I think it must have had local in it and then I woke up and was told all done we are taking you up to your room and I slept on and off for an hour or two and then I was to get up and go a wee walk and that was me up and moving around so my sister and me did a few laps of the ward I went to the toilet and back to bed. Later that evening we went for another walk round ward and I was sick and there was a little blood in it which panicked me but I was told normal enough etc and given anti sickness and slept. Then next morning I felt a bit sick again was able to take plenty of regular sips of water etc and then my cannula that was put in in surgery gave up and they agreed to take it out so that was the finish of my anti sickness/pain relief. They do do bloods every single night but I had none from Thursday as it just wasn't possible and my surgeon was happy enough and y surgeon came round every single morning and evening. The nurses where so lovely and hard working but English wasn't great so we just used google translate and it was fine.

I'm home now and I'm happy I've done it I managed the massive Istanbul airport without assistance etc. I had my gallbladder removed over 10 years ago in the nhs and have to say these wounds are far neater etc. xx

MagentaRocks · 17/04/2022 15:15

@Twinsandsome

Thank you for updating. So glad you are ok and glad you did it.

Hope the next few weeks go easy for you. I found yes there are hard times but it isn’t as bad as I thought it would be and it will be worth it in the end.

JaneIsInsane · 17/04/2022 17:02

@Twinsandsome, I hope you don’t mind me commenting as a newbie Blush Sounds like they really took care of you. Well done for getting through it all. I’m only as far as having a consultation booked but I’m absolutely terrified of dying on the table or never being able to eat normal food again. I hope you continue to make great progress.

JaneIsInsane · 17/04/2022 17:09

Does anyone here use FB or Instagram and is on any of the sleeve pages on those? I’m not on any social media but wondered if anyone was on either whether they could search the name of my closest surgeon and see if he has ever been mentioned and if so, has a good reputation? Happy to read it in here or pm a screenshot. I’m just so anxious about leaving my kids. His name is Mr Alan Li. Thanks in advance if anyone has used him/heard anything/finds anything they can show me. I was going to join FB to join a page but saw an article when googling that they’ve had trouble with trolls so don’t let you join if it looks like you’ve just signed up to join the page.

Twinsandsome · 17/04/2022 19:45

@MagentaRocks thank you I will be very happy if I can mirror your journey and do as well esp in the exercise front.

@JaneIsInsane hi of course. I don't have any social edits at all and to be honest because Ive not Tod any outside my immediate family I didn't even consider joining social to see the pages. My surgeon was recommended on here and from that I researched him and knew he was who I wanted esp as I was now going aboard as originally I hadn't even considered going away as I'm
Such a home bird and to be honest I would say pain etc was nothing compared to the home sickness. I have def heard your surgeons name mentioned on these threads before and I plan to read back over the threads again over these next few days to get info on vitamins etc so if I find anything I'll let you know. Xxx

Twinsandsome · 17/04/2022 19:47

@coldandverytired you are up next then? How are you getting on with your LRD? Xx

DoINeedToDoThis · 18/04/2022 06:52
