Lovely to see how everyone is doing
I'm always so interested to see how many different tests and scans you have when you have surgery abroad...having had mine at a Spire in the Uk literally it's blood tests and an ECG.
I'm two weeks post op and it's been a difficult week had an infection so poorly was readmitted
Getting better now but my mood is a bit low because I'm fed up of being stuck at home and obviously adjusting to it all.

Xxx

JaneIsInsane · 20/04/2022 21:02

@thatyouleaveinspace, glad to hear you’re on the mend.
I’m also considering Spire-The one in Manchester. Did you book direct with the clinic or through someone like Healthier Weight?

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 21/04/2022 10:39

@JaneIsInsane
I went to Manchester Spire with Mr Li,
the communication wasn’t amazing before hand and I haven’t been overwhelmed with after care but I haven’t needed it really. The operation it’s self went well and my scars are great. One is in my belly button one is below the bikini line so I only have two very tiny scars that can been seen in underwear. I was a bit sick for the first couple of days and requested to stay an extra day and they were very happy to agree to it. The staff at the hospital were lovely. Mr Li seemed lovely too but he was off sick after the op with Covid so I haven’t spoken directly to him since coming home. Most importantly I’m no longer obese and have already lost about 70% or more of my excess weight (3 months PO). I had a starting BMI of 36 Its now 27.

JaneIsInsane · 21/04/2022 11:01

@WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor thanks so much for that! Did you book through Spire or directly with him as I understand both are possible.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 21/04/2022 11:37

@JaneIsInsane
I booked through Spire but you can call his Secretary directly.

Just posting to say I'm so excited for you all. I had RNY gastric bypass in 2010 and it changed my life! Early days can be tricky "learning to eat" again but I've never looked back.

momlog20 · 21/04/2022 22:44

So happy to find a WLS thread! Hi everyone, I had my mini bypass in July 2021, I'm 41 weeks post op and 21 weeks pregnant. 105lbs and counting lost
I went with Dr Tuna, best thing I ever did x

Hi all, I've been busily reading through the threads and currently reading "Living with bariatirc surgery". I've just finished tier 3 weight management with the NHS and being referred for surgery now on tier 4. I don't know yet how long the waiting list is so I'm considering going abroad for it to get it sooner.
Has anyone had this done working in a school? I'm concerned about being allowed the time off if I do it the NHS route as it may fall in term time. I was thinking if I did it privately I could do it over the summer holidays, but is it too late to think that for this year?

katcha16 · 24/04/2022 09:51

Hi all!

I've been a long time lurker and just got back from turkey last night having been sleeved on Wednesday morning, so 4 days PO

I am hoping some of you can offer some insight on the bits I am struggling with:

  1. I find it hard to keep water down and am getting sick a few times a day - the protein shakes seem to stay down best, any suggested alternatives?

  2. this is the worst - the excess Sylvia (sorry if TMI!) I am drowning in it, it can't be from drinking too much if anything I am probably more dehydrated, but I can sleep with the contestant need to spit, it's like a tap (sorry again ) - I get some relief if I "dump" but not for long, I feel very disheartened walking around with a bowl!

Experiment with different temperatures and thicknesses. Hot juice was the only thing I could drink in the early days. But smoothies, ice water, yogurt drinks, latte (decaf) seem to work for different people. The extra spit sounds like you might need some anti sickness meds. Can you speak to the nurse?

WitchesWalk · 29/04/2022 10:43

Morning.
I’m about to arrange but now I’m dithering. Can someone please tell me to just get on with it?
Practicalities. Do I just ask them what date and then arrange travel and time off work? Work is difficult regarding leave so I might have to either present it as a done deal or wing it/fake it and hope for the best.
is it difficult arranging flights to match their dates and times?
Insurance?
What else do I need to panic about?

Twinsandsome · 30/04/2022 22:16

Hi @WitchesWalk i decided who I would like to go with and then because of annual leave I had already booked I asked the clinic if they had availability and they did so I then booked my flights. I just had normal insurance booked. I had my op in under 3 weeks from booking as it worked out best extending the leave I had already booked for Easter rather than putting in a new request.

any questions ask away xx

JaneIsInsane · 01/05/2022 12:02

Can I ask about long term side effects of the sleeve?
I’ve been sent a leaflet which says that nausea is a common long term problem. Other common problems listed are reflux and stomach ulcers. As much as I want to go ahead, the idea of long term gastric problems and long term nausea terrifies me. I had severe sickness when pregnant and the idea of that for evermore is worse that being fat and breathless. So, I wondered how common this actually is? How many if you have experienced this and if so does it ever get better. Thanks

Twinsandsome · 01/05/2022 12:53

Hi @JaneIsInsane im only 3 weeks post op coming on Wednesday so I’m not sure but this far I haven’t got any of those symptoms and hoping that remains the case xx

JaneIsInsane · 01/05/2022 16:05

@Twinsandsome, thanks. I know they have to tell you all this but I can’t help but feel it would just be typical if I’m that person.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 01/05/2022 19:47

@JaneIsInsane Nausea was my biggest worry. I also had very severe sickness during pregnancy. I have felt sick a number of times since having surgery either because I’ve eaten too quickly/much or in the first few days I vomited because of the medication/operation. Non of the sickness has been anything like the constant nausea I had in pregnancy. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. However, I have seen 1 or 2 people complaining of more serious sickness on the Facebook groups. I have had a little bit of reflux but it’s been completely manageable and it’s much better already.

Twinsandsome · 03/05/2022 10:13

@coldandverytired all the best I’m sure you can’t believe how fast this has come around for you. Keep us updated when possible I hope all goes well xxx

Twinsandsome · 03/05/2022 10:14

@MagentaRocks how are you getting on? Xx

coldandverytired · 04/05/2022 05:51

Hi all!

i was sleeved yesterday and got rid of my pesky gallbladder too, I was presented with this pot of stones as a souvenir 😂 apologies for the pic if you’re squeamish but I’m quite proud of living with that little bastard inside me for nearly 3 years!

pretty sore today, leak test later and hopefully get the drain removed 🙂 The gas pains… wow!

Hi all!
After having to re-arrange my Surgery 3 times! I’m happy to say, I’m being sleeved on 21st of May with Dr Kesava Mannur at the London Hospital Devonshire place.
I’m a low BMI (I’m 14Stone and 5”5) is anyone else 14 or under when they had Surgery?

I've never been sick once since I had the sleeve 7 months ago if I do over do it not chewing enough my body gives me plenty of warning and I've always stopped eating before being sick. I did get reflux and heartburn I'm still on PPis so I don't anymore.

WitchesWalk · 09/05/2022 15:27

I am booked to go.

realisation for me was the thought that I am too fat, and embarrassed by being too fat, to go on holiday. We go on Thursday and I’d rather not go, than go and have to wear swimwear in public. I know this is irrational but…….

so I got up this morning and by 10.30 it was booked, flights booked, airport parking booked.

and now I am scared.

Twinsandsome · 09/05/2022 18:00

Great @WitchesWalk when do you go and where too? Who’s your surgeon? I’m 4 weeks post op coming. So glad I did it x
