Hello & Welcome

September has flown by and now October is upon us! There's a definite autumnal chill in the air and this change in seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day-to-day lives'. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season. .

With 86 days until Christmas there's plenty of time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from September Thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I will add links on my next post.

@devuskums welcome - and thank you!

I first came up with it as I'm a total crisp addict myself and my ww leader said she'd read a study on this that apparently said it's the crunch and the saltiness we're craving so I thought how can I achieve that without having high cal crisps (by which I include all crisp like fatty snacks) and came up with this. It was really an experiment initially that worked out

There's also a number of studies that show the number of times we chew affect how quickly our brain registers that we've eaten and signals us that we're full, so eating foods that require lots of chewing can help us not eat as much too

Youdoyoutoday · 10/10/2021 08:42

I love ready salted crisps so I don't buy them. I get crisps for my son and dp but they like prawn cocktail which I can leave but ready salted 😋😋

Stayed the same on the scales this morning which I'm happy with especially after going out for dinner and drinks last night. Food was great and it was lovely to have a night without the kids.
Suffering slightly this morning but at least the kids let me sleep til 7.30 instead of the usual 6am today.

Feeling nervous about boot camp tomorrow, I think I'll be OK doing it but it's just the aching afterwards I'm not looking forward to. Planning to give the house a good clean today so I can take the next few days off just incase!

Happy Sunday 😊

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/10/2021 22:57

Good luck at bootcamp you. Go for it. 8 weeks and you'll be fitter and toned, and hopefully weight loss too. You will feel so much better afterwards. And glad you had a nice night out too - and not overly indulgent.

I've not dared get on the scales. Haven't indulged, but portion size not great. Plus a lot of salty popcorn consumed this eve at the cinema. But still no crisps, ice cream, chocolate or sweets. So not all bad ; )

Xwvhtsghyf · 10/10/2021 23:21

Hi, this sounds like a good thread for me!
Put on 3 stone during pregnancy and lockdown combined. I’ve since lost a stone but I need to fit in a dress I already have for a works Christmas party. I am so fed up of trying on outfits then having to buy the next size up so I really want to make it my mission to get in the dress!

TheRealHousewife · 11/10/2021 07:44

Good Morning All

Warm Welcomes to @Xwvhtsghyf @devuskums @Tuirseach , great support and motivation to be found here. The ladies (although gents are vv welcome too) on here are great!

@buzzofthebumblebee I read in one of Dr M Mosleys books that coming off plan for a short period could be beneficial in the short term. Over the longer period more progress was made (for some people) than them trying to stick to plan. I might not have explained it well and willlook for the book reference for you. Food/meals need to be enjoyable and plans sustainable for it to work long term. I’m in the tortoise club. Nearer to goal the harder it gets to shift. I think 9.25lbs in 6 weeks is awesome 👏👍🌟

Menu
Meal 1 - Kale, butter bean & Halloumi stir fry.
Meal 2 - Chicken cabbage carrots peas green beans gravy. Orange.

Well that failed!!

DD had me up til 4am today so I didn't get up bootcamp!! Feel like I've failed before I've even started!! I'm so tired today but I'm going to still walk to the pool and have a good swim or just float about aimlessly!!

Feel like my brain can't function!!

1lb on this morning! Oh well!!

CumbrianExile · 11/10/2021 12:03

Thats a shame @youdoyoutoday. Kids always like to scupper plans don't they?

I've stayed the same this week. A little disappointed, but I wasn't great at the weekend and drank too much Cider (my downfall) Saturday which led to McDonalds on Sunday. Back on it now - and it could have been worse as I didn't gain.

Youdoyoutoday · 11/10/2021 13:24

Indeed they do!!

TheRealHousewife · 11/10/2021 15:08

These things happen @Youdoyoutoday. Being sleep deprived is really tough! Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Thats a win @CumbrianExile ... booze & McDonalds and stayed the same :)

CumbrianExile · 11/10/2021 16:23

Haha @therealhousewife - I should think of it that way! Grin

Youdoyoutoday · 11/10/2021 17:29

@CumbrianExile maintaining a loss is definitely a win!!

buzzofthebumblebee · 11/10/2021 17:36

How frustrating you. And sorry to hear you are so tired as well.

I ate too much pasta at lunch (leftovers), but was hungry after a big PT weights sesh this morning. So just salmon & veggies with dinner.

Staying the same is an achievement in itself Cumbrian.

How are you Graphista & Sunshine ??

TheRealHousewife · 12/10/2021 09:00

Good Morning All

Nothing much to report today. In other news; Online food shop due today and there’s loads of missing items. The madness has begun. Both myself and OH won’t sweat it as we are quite pragmatic and will eat what there is. Mostly baking things missing like mincemeat for mince pies (we bake for a hobby group), gluten free products and lacto free milk 🤔.

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy Cauli Soup
Meal 2 - Chicken strips (appears I can’t spell gougons and it’s too wrong for even spell check to correct 😬) and veg.

Have a great day!

OP posts:
buzzofthebumblebee · 12/10/2021 09:14

Madness isn't it "TheReal" ?? but bizarre what is available and what isn't. But as you say best not to sweat. Otherwise it gets too overwhelming to think about.

I had pre-emptive hop on the scales today in anticipation of tomorrow, and surprised to see drop of 0.75 lbs, so down to 12 5.75. I'm really pleased with that. I checked twice, but didn't want to jinx a 3rd try. Even if scales go up tomorrow (which they well do) at least I know it's going in the right direction.

Thanks again for all your support. Even knowing you are here and I have a weekly weigh in is keeping me on the right path. Slow and steady is the way to go. Just need to be patient and train myself (my head) that I don't need crisps or cakes or bread or huge quantities of food. But what I do want is to be slimmer, fitter, healthier, and happier in my clothes and in myself.

Youdoyoutoday · 12/10/2021 10:44

Morning all.

I have my food shop being delivered tomorrow so that should be interesting then. To be fair though, I do normal go shopping myself but haven't really had any trouble getting stuff. In the past few weeks, I once couldn't aubergines so I'm not sure about what I hear about food shortages as I'm not seeing it but doesn't mean it's not happening else where of course.
But I do think in the run up to Xmas, people will obviously go silly again, it will be like the loo rolls and pasta shenanigans of 2020!!

My 1lb dropped off again this morning so that's good. Feeling quite bloated today though so not really hungry.

Hopefully I can get to bootcamp in the morning! 🤞

TheRealHousewife · 12/10/2021 13:27

Fingers crossed for tomorrow’s wow 🤩 @buzzofthebumblebee 👍

@Youdoyoutoday we have been out shopping in recent weeks too. I noticed empty shelves in regards to pasta, lacto free milk and loo roll 😮. My advice… get a bidet 😬

Change of lunch menu. Had Spicy Egg Fried Cauli Rice. Totally yummy & filling 😋.

I've just popped to my local co-op!! A lot of empty shelves in there but it's the crisps and cereal! Plenty of bread, milk and pasta!

Graphista · 12/10/2021 17:27

Sorry I've been awol been having a weird few days with one thing and another.

@Xwvhtsghyf welcome hope the thread helps you. How did you lose that first stone? Seems you're on track already. Regards fitting into a Particular dress/size might toning up/exercise also help? With me it's my belly that is the thing that most affects dress size and if I tone it up a bit that helps

Food/meals need to be enjoyable and plans sustainable for it to work long term

Totally agree, crash diets or being overly strict don't work mainly as obviously eventually the "dieter" gets so hungry they can't stick to it and end up scoffing all sorts - seen this so many times inc myself when I first tried to lose weight years ago and I went full on diet Puritan! I think I lasted something like 4 days!

@Youdoyoutoday you haven't failed! As you say yourself you've not started yet and you had a tough night with the little one it happens 1 lb on can definitely be shifted quickly

@TheRealHousewife I've had stuff missing from online deliveries for several weeks now I'm on another thread about this. It is getting quite worrying

Each week it's a different dept affected, I'm ok for now but I do wish them in charge would stop denying there's a problem and get it bloody sorted!

@buzzofthebumblebee slow and steady 🐢 is the way to go honestly. This is the lightest I've been in about a decade! I remember I was nudging 13 stone for my 40th and I thought that was bad! Really should have taken my weight in hand then!

Thanks for the kind enquiries after me. I'm still very much in recovery mode.

Gave the kitchen a good sort out yesterday as things had slid housework wise while I was ill and I'm just gradually catching up, because I know not to overdo it or I'll likely do myself a mischief/set myself back!

Frustrating as what I REALLY want to do (well the ocd wants me to do!) is spend a good 10 hours solid blitzing the place!

I do have some good news health wise in that I've finally had an appointment with a psychiatrist (it's only taken 3 years of asking for one!) For a meds review and that went as well as I could hope for. Starting a new med in addition to current one which seems to from a quick google (will research properly later) work very well on anxiety and ocd, one of the side effects? Loss of appetite! Bring it on I say! Grin

Still got remnants of a cough, aches, fatigue...

Think it's gonna be a while yet till I'm fully recovered mum is saying to me each time we speak to take it easy and not rush to return to pre-COVID levels of activity, I think she got quite a fright with how poorly I was though as I was using her as my "check in" person (nhs advice to those with covid who live alone) and so we were speaking briefly daily and she could hear/sense how bad I was and it worried her and tbh she generally doesn't worry like that with me health wise, not that she is unsympathetic she's just used to how I normally am and is used to the usual issues I have but this was a different beast!

Yesterday's menu was

Meal 1 - tomato and bacon pasta I even made my own sauce 1st time in weeks, choc pot

Meal 2 - Quorn sandwiches, carrots and hummus, banana soreen mini loaf

Today's meal plan (yes for newbies I eat at weird times)

Meal 1 - mini scotch eggs with balsamic drizzle, carrots and hummus, banana soreen

Meal 2 - I need ideas! To use up the rest of the veggie bacon that's not pasta, I'm tempted to try a low cal "fry up" type deal. I've got eggs and tattie scones in and could have some mushrooms and tomatoes on the side - I'm gonna see how many cals it would be see if it's doable, but as I said open to ideas too

CumbrianExile · 12/10/2021 19:21

@Graphista glad you are feeling a little better. The 'fry up' sounds lovely. I had one over the weekend, but grilled the meat. It was very filling.

Graphista · 12/10/2021 20:40

Yea I would grill or use fry light to Cook the bacon. I find the eggs cook fine without sticking even without oil. I do the tattie scones in the toaster Grin (awaits a battering from fellow scots)

Youdoyoutoday · 13/10/2021 05:45

Well I'm up and ready to go to bootcamp!! Will update later... if I can! Grin

buzzofthebumblebee · 13/10/2021 07:29

Hurray You !! Hope it was a blast! Bootcamp really does kick start your metabolism and makes you burn off for a day or two after as well (or so I was told ... am sure it's true). Body may be in shock but it will get used to it.

Good that you were feeling up to doing some clearing up in the kitchen, especially when still recovering. Must have needed motivation !

My scales are the same as yesterday, so a loss of about 0.75 lbs this week. Hurray.

SW (1 Sept) 13 st 2lb
CW 12 st 5.75lb
GW1 11 st 10lb

Hope everyone else has success on the scales!

buzzofthebumblebee · 13/10/2021 07:30

meant to say that spicy egg fried cauli rice looked really delicious TheReal

Youdoyoutoday · 13/10/2021 10:50

I'm still alive! 😀

I did it! It was pitch black when I turned up and we worked out and I managed to keep up fairly well! I did opt for the easier routines on some parts but overall, I did OK.

Only thing I definitely can't do are jumping Jacks as my bladder just said nope! Blush I told the instructor and he said I can substitute in another exercise on Friday morning! So all good!!

I did have a giggle to myself when I saw all the cars going past thinking if that was me driving past I'd think what a bunch of nutters!! Never thought I'd be one of those nutters 🤣🤣

Weigh in the morning was up 1lb but I weighed myself when I got home from bootcamp so I'm not sure if it's right so I check again tomorrow!

@graphista we have a fry each weekend. It's from the blood sugar diet book, I've attached the recipe. This is 330 calories and it's great, don't feel like I'm miss out on anything with this. We have this for brunch then dinner in the evenings.
