Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Just made vegan chilli for tea 😊 shared one bag of tortillas between 5 of us and grated a small amount of cheese between 3 of us.

Did a 6.5 mile walk to the beach and back this afternoon which was rather nice… added a few hills to make it challenging

Ionacat · 03/06/2021 18:01

Thanks @Graphista The heat does the trick, I need to ring the GP tomorrow as it does get worse as the day goes on. I woke up feeling fine this morning, and it’s gradually got worse as the day has gone on. I’ve been doing exercises, walking, at one point the lotus position!
I use My Fitness Pal, I’ve loaded all of my usual recipes onto it and it does make me think before I put stuff in my mouth. Last time I lost a significant amount of weight it was with MFP and it appears to be working again!

CocoaMojo · 03/06/2021 18:08

I use MFP and yes it is good if you spend some time adding in recipes you use regularly. You have to invest in a bit I find. The other thing I've found helpful with MFP is adding/planning my food for the whole of the following day the evening before. I find that helps as I don't then have to spend time faffing with adding foods when I'm hungry, which is my danger zone and leads to me eating things that are quick to scan/add, and also makes it easier to know how many calories I have to 'play' with if I'm getting hungry during the day etc, as I already know what i'm eating for dinner.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 03/06/2021 18:12

@Graphista I'm an MFP user, it does work as long as you use it 😂

For crispy things, because I find I miss the crud DH texture of crisps when I'm dieting, I have the ryvita crackerbread slices, they're really low calorie no come in a few different flavours (plain, cheese or black pepper) I have them with cottage cheese, peanut butter or low fat Brussels pate on as a quick snack.

Graphista · 03/06/2021 18:36

@Ionacat glad you're feeling a bit better it may not be advisable to exercise initially. The advice is usually to rest (but not so much you cease up) the first day or two and then gradually reintroduce exercise. I'm afraid I'm an old hand, slipped discs from many many years ago, then a car accident "squeezed" my spinal column so I am a frequent flyer on back issues

Mfp - is it easy to put own recipes on? Might try and do my pasta sauce on it later

@CocoaMojo yes I might spend some time when NOT hungry inputting/creating recipes I have plenty of down time for that

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo "as long as you use it" Grin well quite! That's the plan. My start weight may be wrong as yet to weigh self but I've put in 14.5 stone as a guess as when I looked 13 st 13 was last weight I knew and I'm heavier since then I know from dress sizes alone!

Bathroom scales in grocery order this week

Graphista · 03/06/2021 18:39

I'm doing a 3 column chart of this weeks grocery order

Current/remove/adapt

Hoping this helps

Graphista · 03/06/2021 18:42

Question - straight to wok noodles, can I ziplock them like the rice? Pack says use in one day I'd be happy if I could extend that to even 2

BrioLover · 03/06/2021 21:02

@Graphista I used to do that when I lived on my own and didn't poison myself! I would use them the next day though

Graphista · 03/06/2021 21:59

@BrioLover thank you

Generally I'm quite happy living alone but the difficulty of buying groceries for one person - or rather not being able to - is a total pain!

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 22:01

I really need to lose it!! Confused

Graphista · 03/06/2021 22:51

Mfp users I'm trying to input 81g of pesto used but can't change the amount of pesto away from 1 serving which is 140g so I can't even put half a portion or whatever I'm Googling and finding no answers surely it should be possible to alter the number of grams especially for foods where people are very unlikely to use the same amount

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 03/06/2021 23:00

Hi @Graphista there are two fields serving size and number of servings

If the only option you have is 100g in the servings size then you would put 0.81 into the portions field.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 03/06/2021 23:03

81g of 140g serving would be 0.58 in the serving size field.

Graphista · 03/06/2021 23:07

That's of no use to me that system. I would have thought it should be possible to input "81g" and the app calculate the cals etc are you saying the app doesn't do this?

The only options for the pesto concerned are:

1 serving which = 140g of which 81g is not even an easily calculated fraction

Or

1g (who would eat 1g of pesto???)

And I can't get a drop down or anything for multiple number of grams

And from googling also I'm seeing that the nutritional info if there is no green tick then it's not verified by the app makers but uploaded by user and could be completely inaccurate

This is really putting me off this app!

I want an app I can input "I ate 81g of pesto how many cals is that" and it tracks it accurately

Graphista · 03/06/2021 23:08

I'm also rubbish at maths and don't want to be spending ridiculous amounts of time calculating what fraction of a portion what I've eaten is - that's why I have the app surely

Graphista · 03/06/2021 23:10

Sorry to explain the pesto is just an example. I want an app that I can enter varying amounts of the foods I eat easily - just by entering the weight (that's enough of an annoyance for me as it is) I can't be doing with working out fractions etc too

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 03/06/2021 23:12

If you select serving size of 1g then you select that you had 81 servings.

I know it seems a little fussy when you start using it but I find it second nature now and it takes seconds to add in my foods.

fingersdoublecrossed · 03/06/2021 23:37

@Graphista try the Nutracheck app. It's loads better.

fingersdoublecrossed · 03/06/2021 23:40

@Graphista this is an example, but loads of uk brands and supermarket own brands are on it. Try a seven day free trial.

Graphista · 03/06/2021 23:40

Thanks for trying to help but honestly I'm REALLY put off by the experience tonight

From what I'm seeing from googling lots of complaints, lots of articles saying it's inaccurate cos the nutritional information is uploaded by users and not verified

I've over 20 entries for that one product for example with wildly different calorie results.

I've just checked the actual info and the first result (which I would have thought to use), according to manufacturers nutritional info I've done a comparison and that entry has the product showing as 600 cals MORE than it actually is for half a jar!

So inaccurate!

Plus - I physically can't input 81 servings on the app I'd need to input pesto sauce 81 times for today's dinner - and it clearly still wouldn't be accurate! That's utterly ludicrous!

Nutracheck not on App Store is that only on android ?

I think I'm gonna just work stuff out for myself using manufacturers info and track on my notes app. Most frustrating!

Graphista · 03/06/2021 23:41

@fingersdoublecrossed have you checked if the info is accurate? That's quite shocked me that mfp - a very well known and much recommended app can be SO inaccurate and is allowed to be!

fingersdoublecrossed · 03/06/2021 23:47

@Graphista is definitely verified. I gave up on MFP for the same reasons as you. I used the App Store and I just have the app but there's a website as well. It looks like this in the App Store...

Graphista · 03/06/2021 23:51

Nutritrack or calorie counter?

So irritating. I've just looked at ww app too (thinking I could just use for tracking I'd even be willing to pay I may even join ww digital) but the reviews for that app are just as disappointing as they again allow users to upload inaccurate information and don't make this clear to users - so that either they can check or just be aware!

I really strongly feel this shouldn't be allowed - false advertising surely if they're claiming it allows users to ACCURATELY Track calories using their user created (and wrong) databases. What's that about?

fingersdoublecrossed · 03/06/2021 23:53

Nutracheck calorie counter with the apple symbol

Graphista · 03/06/2021 23:53

Bad reviews of nutritracker too - lots of users complaining money was taken without their knowledge or permission so I'm giving that a swerve too sorry.

Glad it works for you but yea I think I'm going to just track myself, much easier and more accurate
