1 stone loss buddy?

jessyjo2 · 22/02/2021 00:01

So I have put 1 stone on in past few months. With thoughts turning to spring/summer and the wardrobe turning from hoodies to skinny tops I think I better get rid of this stone before anyone sees what is under the baggy hoodie!!
I'm doing the Cancer Research challenge in March to walk 10k steps a day which I thought is perfect excuse to tie in losing 1 stone.
So what I really need is a buddy to work with to share ideas on food and provide encouragement and support to each other.
Have I a buddy?

So tomorrow morning Im doing my official weigh in to record my starting point. Also I will do the dreaded hips measurements 😒.
Breakfast, porridge made with water instead of milk.
Bottle of water to drink, guess 2-3 litres.

I'd love to join you, just weighed in this morning, and although I have a bit more than 1 stone to lose in total, it would be a great start. I need to lose 2st to get to a healthy BMI, and I'm aiming to do that by 21st June (a new me emerging from lock down, plus it seemed like a sensibleish time frame, and summer solstice!)

jessyjo2 · 23/02/2021 15:27

Muddlemidget great. Well lets come up with a plan.
I have used slimming world before and found it good. Well actually i never signed up to it, just stole info and ideas from internet!!
I also walked/ran too which helped but do believe food intake is the important thing.
Have u experience previously or any super brainwaves?

Hi, I've never really been successful before with dieting, I normally just up the exercise, but this time I think I need a little more than that. My plans are loosely based on the slimming world principles of only having 2 slices of bread a day and filling half my plate with salad and veg. I'm also going shopping this morning to fill the fridge with greenery. I eat worst when I'm at work, so planning on taking lunch and dinner with me to avoid buying meal deals, pasties and sausage rolls. Will also start using my treadmill again, but I do like the idea of a steps challenge in March

supercee · 24/02/2021 07:43

I started yesterday! My downfall is wine, the takeaways off the back of said wine,
and complete lack of moderation so going to cut out the wine hopefully until end of March. I have a stone and a half to lose.

I'm going to just calorie count. I've had great success low carbing before but I can't seem to stick to it for more than a couple of weeks. Slimming World didn't work for me so I am just going to focus on under 1200 calories a day, protein rich food, up the veg, and half a small portion of carbs either lunch or dinner, not both. I like to have 2 meals a day, not 3.

I've ordered the Pinch of Nom book so will plan my meals from that. I really can't be bothered logging the calories from my meals as I like to cook from scratch so would rather follow recipes where the calories are worked out! Will probably try and incorporate some 16/8 fasting in there too.

jessyjo2 · 25/02/2021 23:34

Interested in 16/8, had to Google it as hadn't heard of it before! I'm planning not to eat after 6.30pm and breakfast about 9 so hoping that helps a bit. Good to know about different ideas.
I have started to do bit of exercise but really think food intake in biggest thing.
Got my groceries in so no excuse now.
Plan to make oat pancakes for breakfast and homemade veg soup for lunch tomorrow. Spag bol for tea but guess plenty bad stuff in the sauce😔
What foods have u had/plan to have?

My plans are not going well, I'm working a lot of late shifts this week in a supermarket, and have not been making good food choices. Because of the late nights I'm also not motivated to exercise. I think I need someone to take my bank card off me while I'm at work, then I'd ahvw to behave! Am going to pick myself up now though and have a sunny walk to the beach before I'm back to work 2-11 tonight

jessyjo2 · 26/02/2021 17:06

Muddle, thats a long shift. But the walk on beach sounds great.
Would batch cooking something be useful for the long days? Great having something ready to eat.
I brought children to get icecream today, cant believe I had will power not to have one.
I must come up with water drinking plan, nothing done on that yet, really no excuse not to be able to drink water.

OP posts:
jessyjo2 · 27/02/2021 19:59

Weetabix with fruit.
More spag bol.
Homemade oven chips, beans and full fat sausages.
Oh and the alpen light bar.
Not perfect but I've eaten worse!!

Is there room for 1 more? I'm currently 1 stone 4lb down since November 11th but have another 12lb to go. Haven't really set a deadline but sooner the better.

I'm doing 16:8 and low carbing. Additionally I've given up all sweet stuff for lent. Doesn't feel like there's much left!

I only eat 2 meals a day but often struggle with lunch as I get bored of eggs.

Well done on having the willpower to not have ice cream @jessyjo2 that is not easy especially not the sun is shining and the weather is warming up!Smile

jessyjo2 · 27/02/2021 22:30

Well done @AIOR . You have been doing great, even with Christmas. Not sure how I would manage 2 meals. Are u including breakfast in the 2 meals? What time u normally have the meals?

OP posts:
AIOR · 27/02/2021 22:49

I 'allowed' myself 4 days off for Christmas where I ate whatever I wanted and that week I put on 2.5lbs but after the 4 days I we t straight back to healthy eating.

It's just these final pounds that always seem to take so long to shift!

I don't eat breakfast anymore. I eat between 12pm and 8pm. At 12 I have lunch which is nearly always egg as I can't think of many other things that are cheap, low carb and filling. Then I have an evening meal with DC which is usually about 6:30pm. I find the evening meals easy enough as I cook lots of different things and just leave out the carb bit of my portion but lunches are so boring. I tried soup but that left me really hungry a couple of hours after.

jessyjo2 · 27/02/2021 23:44

@AIOR did you find it hard adjusting to not eating til 12? Not sure if I could but definitely considering cutting down to only eating within 8 hour period.
Eggs are so convenient, brilliant but yes could get so fed up of them.

OP posts:
AIOR · 28/02/2021 08:48

The first week was harder in that I felt hungry most mornings but now I can often miss 12pm because I'm working or something and go straight through to 1 or 2pm.

On that first week when I was hungry before the time I could eat I kept making myself a cup of tea which seemed to see me through until 12 then.

I find it works better for me as I know what I should eat, I just eat too much of it. Years ago I lost 5 stone on slimming world and I tried going back to that plan last year but I didn't have much success. Now I'm older my body seems to prefer the intermittent fast and it definitely prefers low carb! Bread and pasta has always been my weakness.

jessyjo2 · 28/02/2021 20:08

Thanks @AIOR . I guess different things work at different stages of life.

I managed to hold out until 11am.
Breakfast - Bacon omelette. Lunch- roast chicken, potato veg. Guess gravy and stuffing not good and maybe I shouldn't even talk about the crunchie bar cheesecake!
Oat pancakes with fruit 7pm, that's me for the night apart from the cuppa later.
Working tomorrow which is harder, I always fail when grabbing something in a rush.

OP posts:
AIOR · 28/02/2021 20:28

Yum, that sounds great and I definitely need the recipe for crunchie bar cheesecake! Will add it to my ever growing list of things I want to eat when lent is over.😂

I had ham slices, cheese and cucumber for lunch and then sausage, mash and green veg for dinner with onion gravy. I don't think gravy is too bad although I just make it with Oxo cubes, water and a bit of cornflour when I'm trying to be good.

beeny · 28/02/2021 20:43

I need to lose a stone. I am only 5ft one and 9 stone !

jessyjo2 · 28/02/2021 23:29

Welcome @beeny .

I'm thinking maybe its good to have a plan for the day ahead rather than last minute panic.
So tomorrow hopefully I will last till 11am with just drinks beforehand.
Breakfast Bran flakes, lunch veg soup and some chicken (that might not b enough though🤔).
Evening meal chick, veg dinner left over from today.
Also I'm starting walking tomorrow, will have to do that in evening.

OP posts:
jessyjo2 · 01/03/2021 21:48

11am bran flakes
2pm veg soup
7pm chicken, potato & gravy. Didnt get veg in, oops. Then slice of cake!!
Few pieces fruit here and there throughout day.
4 mile walk this evening.
Weighted this morning -6.5lb in week, think that was a fluke, week 1 always seems to b biggest loss. Would b happy with 1lb a week.

OP posts:
AIOR · 01/03/2021 22:15

Wow @jessyjo2 that's an amazing loss, well done you!

I had okra curry for lunch today and then roast beef for dinner. I skipped the roast potatoes so just beef, veg and gravy really. Had an apple as a snack. Am very bloated and uncomfortable tonight.Sad

Went for a short walk, bit under an hour as I struggle to fit it in during the week with work and homeschooling to juggle.

beeny · 02/03/2021 19:59

I have been rubbish today ! Tomorrow is another day.

jessyjo2 · 02/03/2021 21:23

@beeny Agree tomorrow is a new day. I've read it so many times that u can't b discouraged after a bad day. Keep going.
Think planning the day ahead helps, saves doing something silly last minute.
Heres mine:
11:00 porridge with grapes
2:00 mmmm I can't think, maybe mug shot, bacon (fat cut off), banana.
6:00 fish, potatoes, brocolli, sprouts, tiny bit of white sauce.
Anyone else have a plan for tomorrow?
