Cambridge/Exante/Slimfast 2021

YourWurstNightmare · 31/12/2020 09:05

New thread combining all the VLC shake diets: Cambridge, Exante, Lighterlife, Slimfast, etc. Everyone is welcome.

If you have any underlying health conditions, please check with your GP first (as I did).

I'm doing Slimfast (two shakes and one healthy meal a day). I use the premade shakes, because I actually like them! They are currently on sale here: www.amazon.co.uk/SlimFast-Replacement-Shake-Chunky-Chocolate/dp/B010PM6XO4/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I noticed Amazon is selling Lighterlife products now, too, if that helps anyone: www.amazon.co.uk/stores/page/DCB0D716-63B4-4265-8862-CF4AEEE9FEF9?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

My goals:

  • Get two stone off quickly, then swap to less restrictive healthy/calorie controlled eating.
  • Do 30 minutes of exercise (walking, jogging, lifting weights, whatever) a day.

Would love to share tips and motivate each other as we go!

Hi all. Can I jump on? Skimming through there are some great stories here. I did slimfast a while back, did OK but it's all crept back. Planning on a short sharp shock for a month or so to try and kick me back into better habits. I'm short and nearly 13st . Going to combine it with getting back to running and kettlebells type workouts. Bit late to this thread but hope you don't mind if I join.

Campervan69 · 04/04/2021 22:18

Jumping back in here to join you all again. I had Covid-19 and comfort ate afterwards as it was all so traumatic tbh. I'm back up to 12 stone so really need to tackle this now. I'm feeling finally a lot better so want to start tomorrow. Have the Cambridge smoothies and soups and going to have one meal as well.

Campervan69 · 04/04/2021 22:21

MyVisionsComeFromSoup do you have a link to your skin machine please, there are so many out there its overwhelming the choice!

sure, it's the Foreo Bear - I bought it on a cheap deal from a company who went bust (fortunately just after they'd dispatched it!), but there are UK based companies which will occasionally have deals.

THIS THREAD is the one I lurked on.

CJDoxon · 05/04/2021 11:25

@HugeAckmansWife - welcome - of course you can join.... good luck - am lumbering towards my goal (Easter blunders) but am getting there slowly. Have now got 8 kilos to go...
@Campervan69 - hello again :-)
Happy Easter Monday all - SNOWING here. What's that all about?

Campervan69 · 08/04/2021 15:45

MyVisionsComeFromSoup my little Bear is here - just downloaded the ap and charging it, then will try it out tonight. In private. Away from prying children and husband hopefully :)

How is everyone getting on diet wise? I have been good but yet to see any significant weight loss. And it's jerk chicken rice and peas for tea tonight and I can't miss out on that.

I'm getting up at 7am though and doing Les Mills Body Balance before work, but no school run to do so steps are very limited as I am working from home. Every so often I make myself run up and down stairs and do something for 5 minutes just to make sure I'm moving enough.

CarolinaWeeper · 11/04/2021 17:38

Hi all, can I join please? I'm the heaviest I've been for quite a few years at 13st 13lbs. Previously I got from 15st down to 12st and hovered around the 12st mark for a long, long time but with lockdown and generally turning to food for comfort and to relieve boredom it's crept back up and here I am.

I'm planning on doing slimfast for a month to kick-start things. I lost the 3st last time through a combination of slim fast then going onto slimming world. I really need a kick up the arse.....wish me luck!

Hertsgirl10 · 11/04/2021 20:58

Can I get on this too I just bright the 7 day slim fast box. Hoping to keep motivated.

Campervan69 · 11/04/2021 22:22

Are we weighing in tomorrow morning? I've had a terrible weekend but have an invitation to drinks on 7th May so now have a target to focus on.

carbonella · 12/04/2021 14:31

Hi everyone, I've been lurking on this thread for a couple of weeks but now loads of newbies have joined, I'm jumping in too!
I'm 5ft2, I have 50lb to lose, and I'm trying slimfast for the first time. I'm absolutely loving it! It has really taken away the 'what shall I eat' struggle.
I started middle of last week and lost 2lb. I had a planned day off yesterday ( family birthday - so ate takeaway and drank fizz! ) but back on it today .

Does anyone find their stomach has already shrunk a bit? I felt really uncomfortable after a takeaway, even though I only ate what I normally did before...

CJDoxon · 12/04/2021 14:49

Hello @carbonella @campervan69 @CarolinaWeeper @Hertsgirl10 - welcome etc etc. I am gently on my way (pardon the pun) out of this. Have lost 20 Kilos since January and have only a few more to go - which i am going to try to lose by a fasting diet - the 5:2 or some such combination. It was (quite frankly) not particularly enjoyable but I rather liked talking to people on this thread and was grateful for everyone's support. It does matter - SO, good luck to you all - you can definitely do it. Spring is on its way and although I am told that skinny jeans are no longer fashionable, here's hoping you can all fit into yours very soon .....

Hertsgirl10 · 12/04/2021 14:52

Aww wow well done you’ve done amazing!!

carbonella · 13/04/2021 19:18

Well done @CJDoxon that's brilliant!

I'm doing well! I'm 6 days in. I've lost 1.2 lb, but that was with a birthday 'non-slimming' day where I drank wine and ate takeaway curry, so I'm pretty pleased so far! I'm doing the Slimfast 123 plan.

Things I've discovered so far:

Waiting as long as possible until I eat my shake / snack really helps, as it means I don't end up at 2pm having eaten all my calories, and a long afternoon until dinner.

I like the shakes and snacks. I don't like the porridge and meal replacement bars (not much, anyway).

I could do with more savory snacks. I've just ordered some cupasoup as most of them are around 100 cal and will do for a snack.

My stomach has shrunk already, as the 600 cal evening meal really fills me up a lot (and it wouldn't have done 2 weeks ago!)

The lack of choice is actually really helpful for me, as it has taken away the constant mental energy of deciding whether or not to eat XYZ. Now the answer is always 'NO!' which still takes will power, but is simpler!

How is everyone else getting along?

Campervan69 · 13/04/2021 20:30

Well done that's fabulous.

I actually really like the Cambridge shakes I have a smoothie mid morning and I do add some berries to it and ice makes a delicious milkshake. Then I can have some lean meat or eggs for lunch and a soup. And I have another smoothie around tea time and a long bath afterwords and an early night in bed watching Telly trying to avoid snacking.

This is only for the 1st couple of days while my appetite is adjusting. I'm definitely motivated now and this thread is helping. Onwards and downwards.....

carbonella · 13/04/2021 21:07

@Campervan69 yes to the long bath and early night! Baths are great as you cannot reach the fridge easily... and I like to visualise how gorgeous I will look slimmer! (I am gorgeous now, too, but the visualisation is helpful :) )

Campervan69 · 13/04/2021 21:20

I'm doing a bit of pampering so am exfoliating every night plus it distracts me and takes me away from the kitchen. I bought this Bear thingie as well for my face so am doing that every night in the bath to see if it will restore my youthful looks.

carbonella · 13/04/2021 21:29

I think those self-care type things are SO IMPORTANT when you are dieting. I have been doing my hair and nails more, (it all went to pot during the Jan 21 lockdown) and it just really helps me feel like I'm worth the effort. And when I feel good about my body I'm more motivated to lose weight - virtuous upward spiral!

I've got work stuff to finish and then I'm taking my laptop into the bathroom and I'm going to watch TV in a bubble bath!

Campervan69 · 14/04/2021 09:11

Absolutely agree.

11 stone 12lbs this morning so a couple of pounds down already which is amazing. Just hope it continues.

carbonella · 14/04/2021 20:58

@Campervan69 Wow we are almost the EXACT same weight!
Summer 2019 I hit 12st 7. This was the heaviest EVER, and I decided to change.

Since then I've varied a bit but got down to 12st 2 in January 2021.

This time I am taking my starting weight as 12st 2 - 170lb. I am now 11st 13.4 (167.4 lbs).

My goal is 120lbs as that will put me in the middle of a healthy BMI.

Today has been good! 2 shakes, 1 slimfast snack (caramel bar - yum). Lots of tea. Good length walk. My husband gooked a lush healthy meal. Because I had 2 snacks left I had a glass of wine.

How's everyone else getting on?

carbonella · 15/04/2021 10:23

Morning - aware I'm probably talking to myself here, but I'm going to log my progress on this thread, unless anyone objects!

Morning weigh in - down another 0.2 lb. So total loss = 2.8lb. Current weight - 11st 13.2lb.

When I get to 11st 10 I will NO LONGER BE OBESE - just overweight. So that's my current mini goal!

CJDoxon · 15/04/2021 11:24

@carbonella ... its a good thing to do - I did it on Wednesdays - helped me ALOT. Keep going - and the no longer obese thing is very cheering :-)

Campervan69 · 15/04/2021 13:35

Its a great idea to log. My target weight is 160lbs at the moment but might reduce that to 154 depending on how I get on. I've never been skinny, got down to 10 stone for my wedding in 1999..... but that was a one-off. I think if it goes well 154 is a good weight for me to try to maintain.

carbonella · 16/04/2021 08:26

Morning everyone Smile

Today's stats:
10 days in
Weight 11st 13 (167lb)
0.2lb lost since yesterday
3lb lost total.
47lb to go!

Yesterday I went rogue and ate a veggie hotdog and fries at lunchtime instead of shake - was buying dcs a treat and ordered one for my fuss pot who I KNEW wouldn't eat it, secretly so I could eat it! Blush But I didn't catastrophise - I just skipped the rest of my snacks for the day, and made sure I had a v small portion of dinner, especially skipped the carbs. It seems to have worked, as I've still lost. Walk with a friend this morning - if I'm out and about I cant eat!

carbonella · 18/04/2021 08:48

Today's stats:
12 days in
Weight 11st 12.6 (166.6lb)
0.4 lb lost since last post
3.4lb lost total.
46.4lb to go

Hoping I can get to 4lb lost by day 14. Still feeling very determined! Got to do some gardening today - I find it easier to stay active at the weekends. How's everyone doing?

carbonella · 20/04/2021 07:21

Today's stats:
14 days in
Weight 11st 12.2 (166.2lb)
0.4 lb lost since last post
3.8lb lost total.
46.2 lb to go

Doing well! Didn't quite hit my goal of 4lb off by today, but only missed it by 0.2lb so I'm happy with that. I've got a new flavour of shake to try - caramel- so interested to see if it's nice. I'm often skipping one of the 3 snacks in the day, but as my favourite g&t is under 100 cal, I sometimes have one of those in the evening instead! Got online yoga today - haven't been for ages but I'm looking forward to it. Anyone else still on slimfast?
