My October food diary

Sorry Mumsnet, this isn't going to make interesting reading! I just want to use the forum as an online diary so that I'm sort of 'held accountable' for what I'm eating. I've lost a couple of stone already this year but I'm still about a stone overweight. My initial target is to be 10 stone by 1st November. I'm 10.7 at the moment. I'm hoping to get by with less than 1400 cals a day.

1st October -

Lunch: Cottage cheese - 150
Sweetcorn - 50
Red pepper - 50
Flat bread - 100
Plum - 50
Cake bar - 100

Snack: Gherkins - 50

Dinner: Falafel - 200
Houmous - 150
Celery - negligible
Flat bread - 100
Starwberries - 50
Cake bar x 2 - 200
Yoghurt - 50

Total: 1300

Just one dog walk today, around 50 minutes

Hi good luck with the weight loss. I'm finding that having breakfast is helpful in stopping me eating junk midmorning...

Thank you! I don't tend to get hungry until lunchtime, so having breakfast is a mistake for me I find!

No exercise at all!! It's been such horrible weather.

Can I ask why you dont use a food tracker app? I tried a few and tbh cant find one that is simple and to be point.
And I'm so nosey actually like reading what other people eat!

I don't feel the need to. I prefer just to round to the nearest 50cals and hope for the best! Besides, I don't feel like a tracker app would hold me to my diet in the same way as other human beings!

Just 20 minutes of walking today! I've really got to up my exercise. I just weighed myself and I've only lost 1lb this week. A loss is a loss, of course, but I was aiming for 2lbs a week so I could get down to 10 stone by November. And then ruin it all by eating parkin

If you’re only half a stone away from your goal, 2 lb a week is unrealistic. You would need a daily 1000 calorie deficit for that which, unless you’re very physically active, you won’t be able to achieve. 1 lb a week is much more sensible. Your diet also seems very high in sugar and processed foods too and there is little to actually fill you up. I would struggle to do exercise on that because it’s not enough. I think that if you cut out sugary stuff like smoothies and cake bars and ate a balanced protein-rich whole foods diet, you’d get better and more sustainable results. I guess it depends on your goals. If it’s just to lose weight for a particular event then fine. If your aim is to sustain weight loss long term, then this way of eating will lead to almost inevitable failure because it would be very hard for someone to keep this up and they’d fall off the wagon, as over 90% of dieters do. If you can’t see yourself following your current way of eating for life, you need to rethink it.

Blooming heck you've got good will power. I know you didn't ask for suggestions but can I very gently say that you might make it far easier for yourself by substituting nuts or avocados with the same calories for the cake bars and smoothies. They will fill you up far more and you can retain yourself to stop craving sweet stuff.

@ Loseastonein21years Thanks! I'm not leaving myself hungry, as the veg/salad I'm having is quite a lot. 1/3 of a cucumber at a time, or half head of lettuce, or a saucepan's worth of broccoli. It's filling without being too calorie intensive!

You're right it's fairly sugary, but then, heck, it's nothing compared to before! Heck I used to empty a packet of biscuits at a time! So 2 cake bars may seem like quite a lot in a day, but they're a major detox to what I was on! As for smoothies, I can't face food early in the morning, and I don't like drinking water at that time either, so it's a way of getting fluid in as well as an energy boost.

Lunch: Fancy milkshake (I know, I know, but I went to a cafe with a friend for the first time this year!) I don't know but I'm guessing around - 400.

Cake bar - 100

Total: 1400

2 x 20 minute walks today, with a bit of running thrown in one the second one.
