5'9" - what's your happy weight?

Fabuleuse · 04/11/2019 12:32

As the title says - I'm 5'9" and at the moment I'm aiming for about 10 stone 7 to 10 stone 10 but it's been a long time since I've been anywhere near that weight! I know everyone is different but I just wanted an idea of where other 5'9"ers feel happy. I'd say I'm medium frame - don't carry excess fat well though - get back fat, double chin, c section overhang etc. I was bang on 10 stone for about 5 minutes aged 21, which is the lightest I've been as an adult, but I went really flat chested and hated it. Currently 11 stone 10 and a smallish size 14. Could maybe do with size 12 jeans depending on make as my 14s are falling down a bit. I was 15 stone on 1st Jan so I'm very pleased with my progress this year.

Am only a couple of inches shorter than you but mine is 11st. I lost a load of weight a few years ago and it was so useful having been fairly big all my life to see what suited me and how others reacted. 11st is the point where people start making catty remarks about my non-existent arse and my friends and family asked me to stop losing.

Still trying to get back there after DD but with very long arms and legs I carry weight well and nobody tends to think I'm anywhere near as heavy as I am. Which is a blessing in some ways but not in others! I'd have thought 10.5st would be fine for someone 5 9"?

MiniDoofa · 04/11/2019 12:37

I’m the same as you- albeit I’m 5’8” I think my happy weight is about 10 stone 7. Haven’t been that for 3 years and currently 12stone. No excuses really, just started eating and drinking more and moving less (and turned 40). Starting back on MyFitnessPal tomorrow.

ChocOrCheese · 04/11/2019 15:47

Well done on the weight loss so far. I am 5'10", currently 12 st 5 and aiming for 11 st 7 (maybe a smidge lower but 11 st absolute minimum). Of more concern to me than the number on the scale is reducing body fat and increasing muscle.

thisisthetime · 04/11/2019 16:07

I’m 5’9 and currently weigh 11 stone 3. That makes me a 12 on top and a 14 in jeans/trousers. I’m an apple shape.

My happy weight is 10 stone 5 but I’m aiming for 10.7-10.10. I was at my happy weight just over a year ago but the weight has just crept back on and I have to be too disciplined to stay there. I keep meaning to help it creep back off but there’s always another birthday/event/day.

Fabuleuse · 04/11/2019 21:16

Thanks for the replies! Good to hear that a few of you feel good at the weight I'm aiming for, so hopefully it's about right for me too. I read another thread from a while back which was full of people the same height who felt fat over 9.5 stone Shock.

I'm 5'7" and am just under 9 stones, although I'm looking to offload another half stone to lose the tummy fat (for a specific reason Blush)

user159 · 05/11/2019 11:26

I'm 5ft 9 and my happy (as in can eat without too much restriction, not over exercise etc) is 12 7. That makes me a 12 on top, 14 on bottom. Currently 5 pounds over this as just loosing the last bit of baby weight, DD is 8 months. All my pre pregnancy clothes fit, some are more filled than fitted so I'm sure I'll be fine once I've lost the last bit.
I am very broad and often told I look smaller than a 14 but people could just be being nice!

FurryTurnipHead · 05/11/2019 11:30

I am the same height and weight as you, and have the same goal! I have got down to 10.7 before but it has taken massive effort to stay there, whereas I settle at 10.10 and it is sustainable. Though clearly not at the moment as I can't stop eating....

pinacoladalover · 05/11/2019 21:15

5'9 here I must admit my happy weight is the one I am at, more or less, 9st4. I was 11 st and I was 9 st so too skinny or too chubby but never fat. I am a size 10 dress but bottom size 8. I kept this weight for a year now but making efforts every day.

joystir59 · 05/11/2019 21:19

I'm 5'7" and 9st 8lb. I would think 10st 5lb would be fine for you. When I weighed that I was happy with my size and shape

JamMakingWannaBe · 05/11/2019 21:27

I'm 5'8.
My happy weight is 10.10 (ideally 10.7 but can't see that happening again!) As above, I was 10st when I was 21 and can't believe how slim I must have been then!
One baby and lots of chocolate biscuits later I'm currently 11.9. (Half term holidays and Hallowe'en added a few lbs). My body likes being 11.4 but I really want to get to 11st for Xmas - and keep it off!
Generally size 12 on top. 14 on my hips.

ProperVexed · 05/11/2019 21:33

I'm 5'8" and currently 9 stone 5 pounds. I prefer to be 9 stone or just under but the menopause has put paid to that and I struggle to lose weight now.

HotSince82 · 05/11/2019 21:34

10 stone 7 give or take.

LukeGoss · 05/11/2019 21:48

I'm 5'9" and currently 11st 7Ib having crept up. My ideal weight was 10st 5lb when I fitted into waist 26 jeans Sad

Whiskers14 · 06/11/2019 07:21

I'm 5ft 8-and-a-half and mine is around 11st 11lb to 12st. My body is a classic hourglass with big hips and big boobs and anything less than that makes me look and, importantly, feel ill.

PrimeraVez · 06/11/2019 07:23

I'm 5ft 9" and my 'happiest' weight is bang on 10 stone. I have been 9.5 stone but felt very bony across my chest at this weight.

wenders4 · 06/11/2019 07:30

I'm 5 ft 9 and 17.1 stone. Heaviest I've ever been!!!! Used to be around 11-12 stone. And desperately trying to get back to that. I'm exercising 3 days a week (intense circuits) and slimming world but not shifting. Can I ask how everyone else manages?

CherryPavlova · 06/11/2019 07:39

My daughter is 5’9” and is maintaining a weight of 9.5 stone. She looks on the thin side of OK to me and that figures with height/weight chart. Personally, I think she looks better with another half stone rounding her out a bit but she’s happy and working on staying very slim for her wedding. She’s also young so being thinner is easier.

Aiming for 9 stone or under is actively seeking to be under a healthy weight.

pollyputthepastaon · 06/11/2019 08:52

I'm 5'9 and 12st10 so in the overweight BMI category. I have to be 12 stone to be a normal BMI

So I think ideal weight would be 11 and a half stone. Comfortably in the normal BMI range. I wouldn't want to be much less

Fabuleuse · 06/11/2019 20:34

Interesting to see the variation!

@wenders I'm a fan of Michael Moseley who wrote the 5:2 diet and the Blood Sugar Diet. I was post partum then breastfeeding until quite recently so I couldn't go too hardcore with my diet but the Mediterranean diet approach he talks about in the Blood Sugar Diet made a lot of sense. I find that carbs are my weak point. When I (mostly) avoid bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, cereal and sugary foods my appetite drops dramatically and I have a lot more energy. I'm not too strict about it otherwise - I eat all veg without bothering about the carb count, same with pulses, breaded coating on fish, a bit of dark chocolate at the weekend. I'm probably a bit repetitive in that I always have full fat Greek yogurt with berries and Chia seeds for breakfast, a rotation of lunches that are all soup or egg based, and then normal family dinner minus the most carby part, but it's working!

Sorry that was @wenders4, I don't know where the 4 disappeared to!

I'm a 5, 9er. My happy weight is 10 st (3lb still to lose to get there!). I was 13 st 4 lb 5 months ago. At my lightest as an adult was 9st 2 lb.

combatbarbie · 07/11/2019 22:27

I'm 10st 3.....and a size 10-12. My happy place was between 9 and 9.5 but went up to just over 11st two year's ago and cannot get back down past 10st 3, I think 'my eat what you want' metabolism is finally starting to catch up with me, I'm late 30s.

Zinnia · 10/11/2019 00:31

5' 9" and happy weight is 11st. That makes me a size 10-12. Currently some way off that Blush
This thread is fascinating though - so much variation in the answers! I have a big frame (wide at the shoulders/hips, and middle finger & thumb meet around my wrist but don't overlap much) so although I have got myself down to 10.7 as an adult I had to diet myself stupid to get there.
