Strange Weight loss

Bella912 · 14/05/2017 20:58

Am starting to get worried. I have been around 11 stone for the past 15 years and have always struggled to loose and keep off weight, my heaviest weight was 12 stone 4.

Something strange has happened in that I have lost a lot of weight without trying. Nothing has changed but this morning I weighed in at 9stone 1. I have lost a stone since late January. I am starting to worry if I could be sick as I don't understand how I am loosing the weight when I have struggled all my life to stay anywhere in the 10 stone mark. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm not complaining but am getting concerned. I am 42, 5ft5. I am by no means underweight but this loss is very very strange. Any ideas?

Hope you get answers soon xx

Tablets currently, with a lingering possibility of future surgery.

WorriedLAC · 15/05/2017 14:27

I had similar, along with palpitations and shakes, lost loads of weight, was eventually diagnosed with overactive thyroid.

Good luck with your appointment today.

ImperialBlether · 15/05/2017 14:29

I think they'll test for diabetes, OP. I hope you're OK.

EBearhug · 15/05/2017 14:38

My mother lost weight similarly, which was down to thyroid.

Hope the appointment goes okay.

Bella912 · 15/05/2017 14:40

Bit nervous but very lucky to have got an app today. I was just so happy I was finally loosing weight but i do feel myself something is not right. I thought as I watched mum go through similar that I was just paranoid but the weight loss is just crazy. Though I'm not under weight so really didn't feel I should bother the doctor. My husband says I don't eat half as much as I used to but I know what I eat and I have been dieting long enough to know my calorie intake etc.

My post should have said good luck at the docs. Google has nothing to do with it!

Hope it goes well and is reassuring.

Bella912 · 15/05/2017 14:52

Lol thank you. Am there at 4.50 so will update when I get back. On the brighter side I ordered myself some new clothes online and they arrive today no more looking like a bag lady.

Happened to me - was devastated to find that it was not magical weightloss fairies but in fact overactive thyroid.

Didn't need meds, fixed itself and am fine now. GP kept an eye.

Don't worry! See what doc says. Don't google.

Bella912 · 15/05/2017 15:05

Got to ask ... did the weight go back on?

OP posts:
Bella912 · 15/05/2017 19:05

Well you guys should all be gp's! I go back in tomorrow morning for blood tests. He is going to check everything but feels we may be looking at a thyroid issue or diabetes. If it was a issue with my liver of bike duct then he said I would be jaundiced. I go back on the 25th for results.

Just want to say thanks to you all - without this post Last night I don't think I would have made the app today. Will update when I get the results. Thanks again

I'm glad you're getting looked at but 25 May sounds a very long time to wait for results. If it's diabetes you have quite severe symptoms. A pharmacist will do an on the spot finger prick test for you that will tell you if your blood sugar is too high immediately - might be worth considering? Untreated diabetes can be fatal.

B19M · 15/05/2017 22:24

If an abnormal blood result comes back after tomorrow's bloods, IME the GP surgery will ☎️ you urgently.

Bella912 · 15/05/2017 22:37

I was at the mercy of the 'lovely' receptionist who insisted there was no bookable apps before that date. I will try the pharmacist though.

In my experience the 25th is fine, if anything comes back worrying then the results tend to come back faster and they will phone you.
At least you are getting the bloods taken tomorrow.

StiffyByng · 15/05/2017 22:49

Yes, B19, I was hoping that would be the case. I'm rather surprised the GP didn't do a fingerprick this afternoon actually. It takes a second.

Dodie66 · 15/05/2017 22:56

My surgery tells us to phone for blood test results after a few days and they give you the results. The results have been checked by a doc before you have been told and they tell you if you need to go in to see the gp

Bella912 · 15/05/2017 23:03

That's what normally happens at mine too but he said he wanted to do the blood tests tomorrow morning and to return after 1 week to go through them. Next app I could get was 25th.

mummytime · 15/05/2017 23:09

I have regular blood tests, and get to see my Doctor about a week after, so we can discuss what the results mean and adjust medicines. Also for example if everything came back fine he might want you to undergo different tests (e.g. a different Thyroid one) or other investigations. And might want to discuss when you need to come back.
And when I've been anaemic for example as well as being prescribed iron tablets I've also been referred for tests to try to find out why.

MissSmiley · 25/05/2017 18:08

How did you get on at your appointment today Bella?

Bella912 · 25/05/2017 18:25

Hey thanks so much for asking was about to come back and update.

So after a week of getting myself worked up I am shocked to say everything has come back normal. No problems with the bloods or my kidneys or liver. To quote the doctor on paper I could not be healthier.

I just don't get it. The symptoms are still there. I still feel crap but my bloods say am fine. I have to monitor my weight for the next months and go back if I loose any more. I honest to god thought there was something seriously wrong with me so shocked but happy at the results.

MissSmiley · 25/05/2017 18:54

Good news that nothing serious has shown up but it is really unusual about your weight loss. Did your doctor not offer any suggestions about the tiredness?

Bella912 · 25/05/2017 19:14

Not a thing no other than if I keep loosing over next month then to go back
