I am over 3 stone overweight , it annoys me and saddens me so why the hell can I not buck up and eat properly ?

I go to the gym twice a week , I aim to do 10000 steps a day and mostly I am over .

I am not losing weight because I eat too much .

I am not talking obscene amounts but enough to keep me fat .

Any tips ? A kick ?

Someone who has succeeded who would be willing to kick me would've handy as well .

Right. I'm heading out for a quick jog and I'm hoping to fast until lunch (I'm not going to manage a proper fast day - I really like 5:2. It's the simplicity!!)

But does anyone have some good links to a low carb recipe website? I need to reduce my sugar intake. I am sooooo addicted!

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/07/2016 08:39

Good luck Nutella .

Sorry I don't have any links but I think the BIWI threads should have some .

Off to the gym this morning then I have a list of jobs to do at home .

Hope the gym went/is going well Howlong.

The fasting didn't go as planned. I got downstairs and there were sheep going past - it's very rural and hilly here - and DH was just back from the Boulangerie (sp?) with with pain au chocolat and croissants.... I managed to avoid the bakery goodies except for a bite or two of croissant sat and had breakfast with everyone, I drank some coffee and ate about half a slice of toast with peanut butter on Blush

Still went for a jog though. And I was quite pleased with my jog. But I need to make it more regular.

We have been here 10 days and that was jog no.2 Confused we are here for another 10 days....

I'm in a weight-loss fb group which started on Mumsnet in January! Some people are doing low carb amd have found this website useful.

www.dietdoctor.com

I've lost 10kgs since beginning of Jan but others have lost a lot more. It's definitely 80% diet and 20% exercise. MFP is great - for me anyway - I had no idea of the calorie content of foods. It helps to regulate your portion size when you realise what 100g of rice looks like, for example.

When I've gone over my daily allowance, I've still managed not to go over by 100s, so it does help rein it in.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 20/07/2016 10:50

I'm down 4 lbs! So,that's motivating.

Am using MFP. It's the only way.

KOKO, ladies!

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/07/2016 11:36

Well done stealth , that's fab ! Mfp is my saviour too . And my fitbit , i am obviously a sucker for a gadget .

That's a great amount bagel , the 80/20 stat is so true if a tad depressing .

I am very impressed you managed to resist fresh baked croissants and go on a jog nutella.

I have been to the gym and I am now logging food for the say so i will keep on track .

As stealth says just KOKO

Bagel I will have a look at that link, thank you I love bagels, although you sadly can't get them here

Stealth 4lbs! Well done!!

Howlong a croissant would leave me with serious gut ache so it's enough to put me off. On top of the non healthy overweight aspect.

We had salad for lunch. Yummy! So, cleaning back a bit of good behaviour for today.

MrsNutella · 20/07/2016 13:35

Oh, and bagel, 10kgs!! Wow! Well done. Right. I will keep doing my best holiday version of will power.

Maverick66 · 20/07/2016 13:45

Great thread OP

IslandLife · 20/07/2016 13:57

OP - I've been like a yo-yo my entire adult life. Then when I was 32 I met the most horrible man and my self esteem was so low I decided to spend 3 years with him. When I eventually left I was overweight and miserable. Unlike you, I didn't have the motivation to walk or use the gym, so you are already halfway there! All I did was put a stop to shovelling crap food in my mouth! I ate healthily and didn't live on salad, but I wouldn't allow myself to buy bread! Absolutely no bread at all! Or wine...gin and slim all the way. I lost 2 stone pretty quickly and bagged myself a complete hottie! Grin

bloomburger · 20/07/2016 14:08

Make sure you drink loads of water too. At least 3 litres a day. Have a pint before you stick food in your mouth, it really helps fill you up and you tend to eat less.

What do you do at the gym?

6lbs in the first week is amazing progress. Well done.

If you do have a shit day you have to just chalk it up as a small blip and get back on it the next day. Don't punish yourself.

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/07/2016 14:19

DH can be annoying at times but not so much that I would swap him for a loss of two stones . Most days anyway Grin
I have swapped wine /beer for vodka lime and soda though .

Thanks bloomburger , I am drinking loads , I have always been pretty good at the water thing ,just not so good at the eating when I am bored and grumpy thing .

I am doing couch to five k on the treadmill and also I have just started this week doing hitmas on YouTube .

All advice gratefully received .

bloomburger · 20/07/2016 14:31

HIIT is fab but I'd include some weights too. Try a pump class as you'll see lots of different moves you can do which you can put into action in the gym.

I do all sorts of exercise, 2 hours cardio a day at times but have worked with a trainer and dropped half a stone over this last month (got about half stone more to go) just doing a different kind of exercise, I've not done more than 10 minutes cardio in the hour that I train with him and it's a bloody revelation. Fucking knackering though.

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 20/07/2016 14:34

Op- this is me too. Sad

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/07/2016 14:38

I tried doing the evil shred a while ago but bloody hell I thought I was going to die . I think i need to build up to facing her again .

I could do some weights though . I have got to the point now where I am willing to put the work in , apart from scary Jillian !

OP posts:
BagelGoesWalking · 20/07/2016 14:39

Thanks, but I'm a lightweight compared to some others on my group, who've lost loads more. But I'm pleased because I have zero willpower and haven't really had to diet before so had no clue!

Recommend body pump as well, I'm completely uncoordinated so can't handle aerobic type classes. Also weight bearing is important for bone strength as you get older! I really need to start it again.

You're doing amazingly well in such a short time.

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/07/2016 14:39

Join me Jaffa . I am determined to not be a big fatty for another summer .

I want to wear nice clothes again .

OP posts:
BagelGoesWalking · 20/07/2016 14:48

There's no way I could do the Shred, far too hard! Loads of other YouTube vids, I started with the walking ones, or 10min standing "ab" ones.

There's also a free app called Sworkit which is good, very short workouts but you can also set your own time, I think.

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 20/07/2016 14:55

I don't even know where to start anymore.
I'm frightened of the scales I've written a million gazillion several posts before about my weight battles. I'm a size 14 squeezing myself into a 12 when really I should be an 8 or a 10, I'm jiggly all over, big tummy legs and arms. I don't even eat big portions of much throughout the day, no breakfast and often no lunch but when I sit down at night and after dinner out comes the ice cream or the chocolate, and full fat coke and woooofmph its gone! And I don't do any exercise, except for that I do at work walking up and down the ward.
I did go on a little walk last night, more a stroll but I think it was about three miles.
I think I need a routine. And I need someone to be accountable too again, my DP isn't happy with his weight either, so I think tonight we are going to join the gym together. I'm just so low at the moment.

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/07/2016 15:02

Jaffa you sound so down , if it helps I would be delighted to be a wobbly 14 Wink

I feel so much better since I started simply because I feel more in control . I am using Mfp which is really helping keep me on track and I am making sure I walk at least 10000 steps every day but I head for 15000 , which I sometimes even manage .

I figure making even small changes has to help as really it was small changes that got me here in the first place . I didn't suddenly wake up one day and start shovelling ten tons of crap down my neck . It has taken me years of practice to manage that so I know it isn't all going to just dissapear overnight either .

Doing something with your dp will be great , I hear lots of sex is pretty good for weight loss Grin

OP posts:
BagelGoesWalking · 20/07/2016 15:12

Honestly, Jaffa, if I can do it, you can.

If you can make one small change to begin with, ditch the Coke. It's really crap. I know water/tea/coffee is boring but you'll get used to it.

Can you try to not buy just one of the snacks you'd usually have. I'm the worst in the evening as well, I like to stay up late for chill out time and inevitably end up snacking. But now it's not biscuits and chocolate. I'll have a couple of oatcakes with cheese, or a 30g bag of Doritos and an apple. At the moment, I love White's Lemonade lollies (60cals). You honestly get used to different things and I really don't like the taste of really sweet things anymore.

Try MFP and you start to make different choices when you see how many cals/carbs they are. I still have my Doritos, bits of cheese, Sour Squirms every now and again, just not so much and not all in one evening!

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 20/07/2016 15:23

Can you delete all your old data from MFP?
I've tried it before and in scared that if I logged in, I would be reminded that I'm a big fat failure.
I'm only 5'3 and know I should be much slimmer than I am. I sort of go into starvation mode and then totally binge on crap.
I love those lemonade lollies but also love Mars ice creams too Blush

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 20/07/2016 15:25

Do you think I could eat hummus? And prawns? And avocado? I love hummus and avocado! And halloumi, I love halloumi with chorizo, but none of it is very good for you :(

Howlongtillbedtime · 20/07/2016 15:46

Jaffa I have rejoined as well , i have just used a different user name . I assume you can eat all of that but just not as much as you have done . Prawns you can definitely eat loads of .

Don't beat yourself up , it's done now and all you can do is change things from now .

It isn't easy but I think it's easier than getting bigger and being more miserable than I am now .

OP posts:
FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 20/07/2016 15:52

I'm sitting down with a piece of paper and writing down all the things I like (which considering I like loads of things I'm actually finding quite difficult). Thought I would try and make a meal plan.
so far I've got:

  • roasted veg
  • ham
  • cheese
  • jacket potatoes
  • tuna
  • anchovies
  • chicken
  • pineapple
  • mango
  • soft boiled eggs
  • hummus

I don't think I'm going to get on very well with breakfast, I've never ever eaten breakfast, not even as a child.
