After fits and starts family illness and guests etc. that took the focus off health and weightloss it is a NEW YEAR and new motivation.

Looking for likeminded MNers who want to stay on track this year.

Just started yesterday and I think I am down 3/4 lb (but have been gorging all Christmas so needed a kickstart!).

Jynxed try my fitness pal app. It has helped me so much.

Jynxed · 11/01/2015 09:42

Roses - I have been looking at the on line stuff (slimming world) but struggling with the idea of paying £60 to access a website. It's a lot of money straight after Xmas, and I suppose there is also an element of me feeling it's my fault I have got this fat stuffing my face so I shouldn't spend that much of the family money on shifting it again. I may change my mind after pay day though.

One of the things I don't understand is how my weight can fluctuate so much through the day. Yesterday morning I was 10.11, last night I was 11.2 and went to bed in tears ! This morning I was 10.10 1/2. Can anyone explain that to me?

Jynxed · 11/01/2015 09:45

Thanks Fidelma. I've not heard of that before but seen a few people mention it and will look it up.

fidelma · 11/01/2015 10:33

And it's free

zippyandbungle · 11/01/2015 11:54

jynxed I would only weigh yourself at the same time each day, I weigh myself in the morning before breakfast. Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day due to what you ate, what you drank, what the weathers like. I'm always heavier before bed hence the morning weigh in. I also look at the 1st day of the month weigh ins as my weight fluctuates with my period sometimes as much as 4lbs in one day. So the same time each month gives me a more accurate weight than a yo yo daily/weekly number.

Jynxed · 11/01/2015 12:49

Thanks I think I will stick to the morning weight then! Have signed up for My Fitness App which looks really good. Already discovered that my supposedly healthy breakfast was over 500 cals and 90% of my sugar allowance. Some big clues to why I am so heavy!

fidelma · 11/01/2015 21:41

That's great Jynxed
Honestly it's been great for me. You can scan the bar code and it just finds the food. Very clever.

Jynxed · 11/01/2015 23:31

Thank you so much for the tip. I obviously just have no idea on the calories, sugar etc. in what I am eating. Just over 2000 today and I thought I was being good! Hopefully with this help to monitor what goes in my gob I will get some control back. Aiming to lose a slow and steady 1lb a week and be back to the weight I was at 30 when I turn 50 in the summer.

Millli · 12/01/2015 01:59

I will join too. I have maintained for years but would now like to lose a stone or two so that my knees will feel better.

Millli · 13/01/2015 22:21

Where did you all go? Confused

Tinofroses · 13/01/2015 22:52

I'm here milli - welcome. Having an ok ish week. Few small treats but in general I'm being pretty good. Too tired to type now so I'm off to bed.

Millli · 14/01/2015 00:31

Tinsofroses thanks for reply. Glad its still on. Thought people were put off cause of the age discussion up thread Smile

ToastedOrFresh · 14/01/2015 04:16

I'm 47, 5'2" and weighed 110kgs when I weighed myself at the beginning of January.

I'm following a mindful eating programme and more or less eating clean. Plus I'm exercising regularly.

I only weigh myself monthly. Years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and weighed myself monthly, using the scales at Boots as I got a very discrete printout the size of a receipt with my weight on it.

Unfortunately, emotional eating got the better of me during a period of uncertainty and I put all the weight back on.

I'll be weighing myself at home. Trying not to do, 'best of three' by weighing myself at home, at the gym and at my doctor's surgery.

BTW my doctor calculated my BMI and advised me I was at risk of developing diabetes with my BMI number being so high.

Personally, I just want to weigh less and buy smaller sized clothes.

hellsbellsmelons · 14/01/2015 09:50

I'm still here too.
Weigh in tonight.
Dreading it.
Not been a great week.
Must get more focussed for next week.

zippyandbungle · 14/01/2015 10:23

hellsbells I'm sure you will of done fine. My first weigh in I tomorrow morning. I've had a mixed week. My food and eating are on track but I've had no urge to move more. I managed 20 minutes of Zumba on the wii on Monday but my promise of at least this daily has fallen on my deaf ears. Oh well just keep trying.

Millli · 14/01/2015 13:13

Glad you are all still on this Smile. Im doing mindful eating and have been for over 10 years. I maintain my weight eating the food I love but only when truly hungry. I have maintained but have recently decided that I would like to lose another stone as I don't feel as supple as I would like and I know that losing a stone would really help. I have lost 5lb this January so far.

26Point2Miles · 14/01/2015 18:36

Losing slowly here! Finding it hard to drink water too.... Too cold!

fidelma · 14/01/2015 23:50

I'm still here.
I've lost 8lb since the begining of December.
It got very hard after 3/4 weeks but I've managed to keep going.
Even if things slow down keep going its so worth it.

hellsbellsmelons · 15/01/2015 09:22

Absolutely fidelma
I'm keeping to my mantra this year.
Slow progress is better than no progress
I lost 1lb this week.
Not really deserved but I'll take it.
Plan is to lose 1.5lbs by next week weigh in.
I need to get on it now!

26point it is cold for water but do you like lemon?
Sliced lemon is hot water is nice, warming and refreshing!
Or hot water in no added sugar squash?
Peppermint tea?

zippyandbungle · 15/01/2015 09:58

Well I'm a bit disappointed ive stayed the same this week but I'm going to keep at it. I agree slow and steady. Although not this slow.

Tinofroses · 15/01/2015 11:01

I've lost 1lb this week. Little disappointed but on the other hand wouldn't 1lb per week be terrific. Normally after weigh in evening I have a treat or 5 lol. Last night I had a low fat yoghurt and some almonds. So that's a good start . Leader wants me to lose 5lb for valentine day so that's 1 down and 4 to go. A little mini target. Night time is my hardest time, any tips

fidelma · 15/01/2015 18:15

At night I drink lots of tea. Not very exciting but better than nothing. I too was disappointed at 1lb however 7/8 weeks down the line I'm 8lb lighter and very chuffed. I am also hoping that the slow weight loss will stay off.

Millli · 15/01/2015 18:38

One pound off is brilliant and much better than one pound on!

Tinofroses · 15/01/2015 19:50

Fidelma I like tea and happy to drink green teas. I have not been brill today mainly due to hardly any food in it so did not have good choices. Anyway back from sainsbury now and have loads of healthy food. So back to being good. I meant so say earlier well done to all the losses so far. Some good ones there.

Silverstreaks · 19/01/2015 21:01

Just to give an update on my basic eating - 6 lbs have disappeared in two weeks. I've found sticking to protein, some fats, fruits and veg really quite easy. I've always been full because I've been having big meals and so far have resisted temptation. Hopefully I an keep it up for another couple of weeks.
