Any shredders out there?

Hello. Have started doing the 30 day shred and have made it to day 6. Have done before, half-heartedly and not made it all the way through, or even up to level 2 so looking for some ways to keep my motivation up, hence this thread.

I'm definately feeling, if not necessarily seeing, a difference and finding it easier to get through than on the first day, no more aches and recover a lot faster. Still find the first round of jumping jacks and jump rope a killer and only doing half-push ups. Have been using (I think) 1.5kg weights but think I might up the ante for the last few days of level 1.

Don't have huge amonts of weight to loose, but carrying extra around my middle and would like to generally tone up and improve strength and stamina.

Have been looking at old threads and was wondering if anyone else was mid shred?

I did day 16 this morning - level 2 is killer but if you stick with it it's so rewarding when you can do the moves (plank squats urggg) for longer each time. I feel amazing, look more toned and have bags of energy. My skin looks better too. Like you I don't have much extra weight ( cept a bit round middle) this is lessening and although I don't have scales my clothes are fitting better.

Hi Arlington

Is this the first time you've done it? Well done on getting to level two - I'm starting to feel a bit nervous as it approaches. Have done day 9 today, so going to have to embrace level 2 sometime soon I think. Going out tonight (whee) so wasn't sure I'd have time to do it, but amazed myself by doing it when I got up. Am not a morning person and don't think I have ever done any exercise before going to work before.

Not sure how I will fare tomorrow after a night out, and also going away for the weekend (but will probably do lots of walking) but going to try not to get derailed. Also aiming to do a full push-up by the end of it!!

Am on day 4 today. Necks sore so think I did something wrong yesterday!! Have 26 days until holiday :-) can you see my reason! Would like to tone up so using this alongside gym work

BoBoo · 19/05/2014 11:45

Hey Sunny. Maybe from the abs work - are you looking at the ceiling? Also have a holiday, but not until August so hopefully will manage to get somewhere by then. Hate the first set but feel like everything gets a little better after that. Wish I'd taken some measurements. Can't see much of a difference, but feel like I might have lost a little from my hips and feeling stronger.

Can I join? I only started today, but feeling motivated! I have 62 days until my friends wedding, and the dress I am wearing is currently 2 sizes too small...not good! I can't quite believe how difficult it is...not sure what I was expecting, but my body feels battered!

BoBoo · 20/05/2014 07:25

Of course! Welcome. It gets a little easier, but can't say it gets easy. Had a few drinks last night, so not looking forward to it today. When I stared I could feel it in my arms and legs for a few days.

OP posts:
therealeasterbunny · 20/05/2014 07:37

Eeek, I'm not sure I'd fancy it after a few drinks either! It's tough enough without a hangover.

I am mostly feeling it in my back today, and oddly one of my wrists hurts, so possibly I'm not doing the press ups correctly. Will get DH to have a look later, he will know!

Are you all combining diet with the shred? I am guessing maybe not if none of you have much to lose. Unfortunately I've got about 2 stone to lose before I'm happy. I know I'll see a difference after 1 though so that's keeping me going! I'm sort of doing low carbs, low fat, no sugar.

I ordered a magic tape measure yesterday, so hoping that will help with motivation!

ArlingtonStringhamm · 20/05/2014 13:34

I started it once a few months go but didn't get past day 4! Had a hideous shred on Sunday ... And a day off yesterday... Must get back on it tonight - I'm finding fitting it in before eating/putting a toddler to bed the hardest part! Invested in some actually weights (£20 from tesco for 6!) so must use those!!!

ArlingtonStringhamm · 20/05/2014 13:40

Apologies for my dreadful phone typing

BoBoo · 20/05/2014 14:03

What's a magic tape measure?

It can be surprisingly hard to find even 20 mins to fit it in, but mine are at an age where they can amuse themselves for a bit, or they can just watch me. And we take it in turns to do bedtime, so I'll do it then when it's not my turn.

Not on a diet as such, try to make healthy choices for the majority of the time but nothing is banned. Try and avoid processed food, salad for lunch, not too much bread (and wholemeal, seeded when I do at home), watch the portion size, cutting down on sugar. But don't really avoid fat -love butter and cheese and hard to say no to a nice beer.

I think Argos have some reasonably priced weights if anyone else need then.

Will be really pleased with myself if I manage to do it tonight - am usually an expert procrastinator in life. Then will move up to level 2 tomorrow gulp

Magic tape measuren is something I used to use when I did the Rosemary Conley diet. It is a tape measure with different coloured markers which relate to different areas of your body. (Purple for tummy, green for waist, blue for left arm etc!) You attach a permanent marker for each body part on the tape measure when you start, and then you get a moveable marker in each colour to use every time you measure yourself, so you can see exactly how much you've lost. It really helps to motivate you! It is really satisfying moving the markers further away from the measurements you took when you started! You can order them from the Rosemary Conley website for about £2. Genius invention!

ArlingtonStringhamm · 20/05/2014 18:21

That sounds amazing!

Day 18 done... Felt wrecked but managed to do each 30 second round of plank squats so something must be working somewhere!

therealeasterbunny · 20/05/2014 21:00

Yep it is amazing! I can't wait for mine to arrive so I can start measuring! (should have ordered it before I started the shred!)

Just done day 2 and didn't back off of anything, even did the press ups. Ouch!

Well dome on the plank squats...they sound lethal! Wish I was on day 18...long way to go!

Are you supposed to have any rest days at all? I'm guessing not seeing as it is a 30 day programme, but just wanted to check because usually with fitness regimes you do don't you?

mswibble · 20/05/2014 21:05

I did day one level one tonight - phew. She's a bit mean 'ol Jillian isnt she? Absolutely killed me but felt ace when it was over and I collapsed on the sofa!

CarpeJugulum · 20/05/2014 21:06

Day two done this morning; day three should be tomorrow night.

Holiday is in 32 days and I have holiday trousers that need fitting into.

mswibble · 20/05/2014 21:07

mswibble · 20/05/2014 21:08

carpe
33 days for me ... eeeek!

therealeasterbunny · 20/05/2014 21:25

Well done mswibble! 16lb is amazing! I tried SW a while ago but it didn't really work that well for me. I lost half a stone and then stopped losing any so I gave up...then put the half a stone back on!

I have got 61 days until my friends wedding (for which the dress I am wearing is currently gaping open at the back by about 4 inches!), so I figure that this allows me one failed attempt at the shred, and one hardcore full throttle attempt?! Hopefully the 1st attempt wont fail though!

mswibble · 20/05/2014 22:30

Im an extreme yo yo-er - its taken me since Oct to lose 16lbs but i think its all finally clicked now. Another woman in my group has lost 5st in the same time! Hey ho, slowly slowly catch monkey - eventually!

Ive heard there is a new Shred, think its an extreme 7 day version ... don't think I'd be able for that!

therealeasterbunny · 20/05/2014 22:58

Yeah I'm a bit of a yo-yo dieter too. I flit between 11-13 stone.

Wow, 7 day extreme shred sounds great! I think I'll be doing that the week before the wedding that I'm going to, for a kick start!

thedicewoman · 20/05/2014 23:01

Day 3 for me today and I can hardly walk, butt and thighs killing me, but in a good way! Can't quite imagine what a plank squat looks like!!

mswibble · 20/05/2014 23:08

You get addicted to the DOMs dont you?! Expecting a few ow's myself tomorrow.
I hope im as perky as you sound after my third session thedicewoman!

CarpeJugulum · 21/05/2014 05:41

I can recommend the "No More Trouble Zones" DVD too; I've done it a couple of times and it's way more intense - but about an hour to complete. A bit less cardio, and more toning but if I had more time I could see me interspersing the Shred with it for maximum "owwww"!

therealeasterbunny · 21/05/2014 07:35

I'm also on day 3, and can report that my scales say I've lost 1lb so far. Not bad!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one suffering today. It's at times like this I am VERY glad that I have a desk job with the toilet and kitchen very close by!

I'm not sure I like Gillian very much, she's mean!
