New week, new thread ... and lots of determination not to have any gains this week!

well the lipotrim that she doen was 3 shakes a day no eating at all i know it doesnt sound healthy at all but shes lost all the weight and seems to be keeping it off. lol back to food now anyone know if a scone is bad for you how many points should i allow for it

suejonez · 25/07/2006 12:30

With 10 stone to lose, it DEFINITELY isn't an option for me - I can't beleive that its a serious alternative for anyone with more than 3 or 4 stone to lose.

If you have less to lose and you're not worried about putting weight on post diet, why not drink 5 large glasses of full cream milk a day and take a multivitamin and a fish oil tablet? Would probably work for a few weeks and cost a lot less is my guess.

Can you tell I'm cynical about these kinds of things! It;s like Atkins - very unhealthy in the long term and I don't know anyone who hasn't put all the weight back on afterwards.

suejonez · 25/07/2006 12:32

as sweet stuff foes scones are good - if you're using ww points I think they're about 3/4 depending on how big. I have the occasional (once a week maybe) scone with a cup of coffee in M&S cafe (bought from the shop not the enormous ones they sell in the cafe) and it doesn;t do me any harm. But then I'm twice your size so can eat a lot more and still lose weight.

mumsyxx · 25/07/2006 12:56

ah thats good i can live with 3 or 4 points im on 22 points a day now and struggle with that god knows what ill be like if and when i get down to 18 a day ah well how are you all doing on your diets this week ladies i get weighed on thursday night i am not looking forward to it at all ah well positive thinking

JackieNo · 25/07/2006 12:58

Definitely struggling a bit this week. Mostly because DH is away, I think. At least the heat is a bit more bearable.

suejonez · 25/07/2006 13:01

I'm having a bad week, eat all day Sunday because I was down then bought a (whispers) pork pie yesterday and ate that on top of all my usual stuff. They're so many caloreis and full of so many bad things that I've decided to pretend I didn't eat it and that it might threefore not count.

I'm now starving today and can't decide if that PMT or just that I've eaten so much the last two days that I've got used to it!

You still on for a coffee on Friday am Mrs JC?

WigWamBam · 25/07/2006 13:02

Glad to know I'm not the only cynic, sue. If someone has the willpower and motivation to live on shakes then surely they have the willpower and motivation to live on a healthy, balanced diet that helps them to modify their eating habits? I can't see that meal replacements do anything for anyone who needs to reassess their relationship with food, or who is overweight because their diet is crap. It doesn't address the underlying problem - once they stop the diet and start eating "normally" the weight has to go back on, because they haven't taught themselves what "normal" eating is.

Diets are big money-spinners; the manufacturers of this stuff know that in the long term it doesn't work, but that people will go back to it again and again and again when they put the weight back on.

suejonez · 25/07/2006 13:03

of course WWB our cynicism will be more potent when we are thin and cynical! Having done it the hard and healthy way.

JackieNo · 25/07/2006 13:03

Surely one pork pie is allowed? I've been having full fat greek style coconut yoghurt with a banana chopped in or some muesli stirred in - sounds quite healthy, but I bet it's got loads of calories. Oh well.

WigWamBam · 25/07/2006 13:07

It's because I've done so many diets and failed that I'm cynical really. I know that they don't work in the long term, but because people do initially lose weight on these plans they go back again and again - I've done it.

I'm not in the "diet" mentality this time - I'm in the "healthy eating" mentality. Hopefully it will make a difference!

But yes, our cynicism will be much more potent when we've lost 10 stone ...

"Surely one pork pie is allowed?" - JackieNo

Ah, yes, well, forgot to mention the homemade burger on ciabatta with cheese and sweet chili sauce (did have salad with it), and the peanut butter on crumpets over at my sisters house...

JackieNo · 25/07/2006 17:26

I still think that doesn't sound too terrible - homemade burger is probably all protein and not too much fat, peanut butter, well depends on how much, but I had peanut butter on toast for lunch on Sunday. Go easy on yourself - and you've been stressed out too, so it's very understandable. I had two squares (small - 2 bites, 1 if I hadn't been at work) of millionaires shortbread at work today, and one coconut bite thingy - someone's birthday, and then they left this whole tray of cakes just next to where I was sitting.

suejonez · 26/07/2006 10:25

Still think I've put on weight though - maybe a couple of pounds. Will be glad to weigh today and start again.

JackieNo · 26/07/2006 11:12

No idea what I'll have done. I'll have to weigh a bit later this afternoon than I usually do. Will post when I've done it.

schneebly · 26/07/2006 11:37

sUE - i HOPE YOU HEAR SOON ABOUT YOUR PAPERS - IT MUST BE SOO FRUSTRATING FOR YOU!

OOps - caps!

WWB - glad DH is getting a bit better!

Hope you are all doing better than me!

I have had another bad week - put on 3lbs last weeks and blamed it on water retention - guess what? Stayed the same this week so maybe it wasn't water retention after all. I shouldn't be surspised as I have been eating far too much and drinking more alcohol than usual too. I just can't seem to get back on track! Grrr.

mumsyxx · 26/07/2006 13:17

well girls im getting weighed tomorrow evening i am dreading it i will keep youse posted according to my scales ive lost half a pound if that i am really struggling to get down from 14 stone anyone else had this problem that there weight has just stuck at a certain weight also to top it all off my partner wants to go on holidays in september allright for him hes not far off his goral weight i will feel bad on the beach and at the pool

suejonez · 26/07/2006 13:39

half a pound is OK when you've already lost a lot (you have if I remember) - keep losing at half a pound a week and by Sept you will have lost another 5lbs or so by then. In reality you'll probably improve after a few weeks in the doldrums.

Have you tried upping your exercise (I know not easy in this heat) - but may kick start you again.

MrsJohnCusack · 26/07/2006 13:43

am still on for Friday Suejonez, will be on my way to my parents. 10.30 OK? (I'd say 10 but I know I'd be late....)

looking forward to meeting you!

I will not be weighing myself today. All I know is I look about 4 months pregnant instead of 10 weeks, and I've just eaten a large packet of Walkers Thai sweet chilli crisps for lunch as I couldn't face anything else (and had a curry last night). Can't exercise pregnant in this heat, it's just vile.

good luck everyone else though.

suejonez · 26/07/2006 15:10

Do you want to call me when you're on your way? Or shall we just meet there at 10.30? Will you be wearing a red carnation and carrying a copy of the financial times?

alittlebitshy · 26/07/2006 17:35

mrsJC and SJ, it's probably a no no, but we're visiting Hounslow on Sat 5th AUg.........

suejonez · 26/07/2006 17:40

ALBS - depending on the time, I will be around that day.

AS suspectde 2lb on - know my body well. I did weigh after lunch (normally before) which may be a little of the increase but funnily enough I don;t feel too bad about it, just need to make sure I getthis week under control a bit better. I really want to reach my 1st stone soon.

JackieNo · 26/07/2006 17:44

Just weighed, and it's 2 pounds off. I am now officially 15 stone. I did rush home after having had a Magnum (double caramel) to weigh myself before it had a chance to metabolise into a couple of extra pounds. Just too hot, and I cracked after 2 days of watching DD eat a cornetto 99 after her ballet summer school.

alittlebitshy · 26/07/2006 17:45

i'm not sure if i stayed same or last a pound. did it in a hurry this morning.....

SJ - i think my "free time" is is the afternoon.

coppertop · 26/07/2006 17:46

I can't believe I've put on another pound. This time I really don't know why. The hot weather has killed off my appetite. I've been drinking lots of water (at least 2 litres a day and sometimes 3). I've even increased my exercise, eg I usually aim for about 70,000 steps a week but have done 40,000 in the past 2 days.

Last week I fully deserved to put weight on but I've been so good this week.

suejonez · 26/07/2006 17:55

If you've been OK this week Coppertop then don;t stress the scales aren;t always right. Also you could be carrying more water due to the amount you're drinking - my old WW leader said that was very common when the weather got hot. Don't get down about it because you will only end up comfort eating - bet you lose next week if you stay on the straight and narrow again this week.

Jackie - you are doing so well - I'm
