New week, new thread ... and lots of determination not to have any gains this week!

Oh ... and you're more than welcome, niceglasses ... if you can survive the barrage of plastic toys!

We do a weigh-in on a Wednesday, if you want to email me it's [email protected] - you can mail me a starting weight today if you want to, then do the weigh-in on Wednesday. Or just hang around for the support, it's up to you.

Great, will weigh myself tomorrow - have been avoiding it, but will bite the bit tomorrow. Thanks.

WigWamBam · 20/07/2006 22:10

The first time is the worst ... it can only get better from then on in!

OP posts:
niceglasses · 21/07/2006 09:27

Okay, did the deed. 10st 2. Worse than I thought, but I think that puts me at around a straight stone to loose - I'd prob be over the moon with 10lb tbh.

On hols in Ireland next week so my aim is maybe just not to put any on. See you in a week girls and good luck.........

JackieNo · 21/07/2006 15:20

Welcome nicglasses. Hope you have a great holiday next week.
WWB - good luck with getting refresher driving lessons sorted - I passed my test quite a few years ago now, but didn't drive for ages - the odd bit here and there, as we only had one car. Then when we had DD and I had to go back to work, we bought my car - it was a bit of a nerve-wracking thing to do, getting used to driving, but well worth doing. Not sure I'll ever be a very confident driver, but it is great (even if I don't have air con in my car).

suejonez · 21/07/2006 15:48

Shall I really annoy you all?

I'm just going over to my sisters to borrow her pool whilst she's away, ahhhh, sizzle [smug emoticon]

Rich bitch sisters are LOVELY!

WigWamBam · 21/07/2006 16:50

Have a lovely holiday, niceglasses.

suejonez ...

The new car is sitting on the drive, all red and shiny ... I can't see dh letting me anywhere near the keys! A dodgy car followed by problems with both my knees and my hands (before we had power steering) meant I lost my nerve but I really want to drive again ... I'm just not sure I have the courage to do it.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 21/07/2006 18:10

Ooh suejonez you lucky, lucky person - I'm extremely too.

Saw you asking about baby/children's clothes on the primark thread - I found that there was often some quite nice stuff for babies in the really cheap shops like BWise, Peacocks etc (haven't really tried Primark, but I guess it's the same), but once they got to age 2, 3-ish upwards it all went a bit horrible. H&M are good, and relatively cheap for babies and older kids.

WWB - if you have some lessons in a different car first, to get your hand in again before tackling yours, maybe you'll be less nervous?

Xavielli · 22/07/2006 09:26

Hello all!

May I join you please?

I havent been weight since I was pg with DD, I was just over 12st then and fear I may still be. I will go to boots and weight today so I know how much I need to lose. my opt weight was 9st 8lb before babies. I think 10st might be more realistic now tho.

I am not good with diets, can someone recommend a good one that is easy to follow.

Thanks ladies!

WigWamBam · 22/07/2006 11:51

Mumsy ... so sorry there wasn't anyone around to talk to you last night. I really hope you're feeling a bit better today. Sometimes you have to be nice to yourself and say "sod the diet" - then start again when you're feeling a bit better. The one thing I would say is that it's obviously worked for you before, you've done really well to lose what you've lost - so it can work again if you let it.

Hello Xavielli! You're more than welcome to join us. I've not been following a particular diet so far; the last one I did was Rosemary Conley so I've been vaguely following that one, but really just being careful with my portion sizes and cutting out all those things that I know I shouldn't be eating so much of. I've been flirting with the GI this week and it looks pretty good (suejonez put a link in further back on this week's thread). We're all following different diets/eating plans, I think really they're all as good as each other as long as they're sensible eating plans and not faddy crash diets or silly meal replacement thingies.

Hi Wigwambam thanks for the encouragement i got through it just stuck with it and went to my bed lol best thing to do rather than be narky with everyone how is everyone doing on there diets ? a new day and i dont feel as bad today had porridge for breakfast thats really filled me up so far anyway

suejonez · 22/07/2006 17:18

How can you eat porridge in thsi weather?! Man even the thought of it brings me out in a sweat!

mumsyxx · 22/07/2006 17:50

well im living in Ireland at the moment originally from Glasgow and the weather isnt too great here this morning it was quite cold plus i like cold porridge with the milk floating on top yummm

Xavielli · 23/07/2006 18:16

weighed myself in boots today and I was a shocking 12st 6lb. It said my optimum weight for height/build was 9st 8lb, which is encouraging as this is what I was pre children!

I think exercise is the key to me losing weight, and not eating chocolate so much! lol

I like the idea of Paul McKenna! will try it, starting tomorrow. I have Charlie Brooks (Janine from eastenders) exercise DVD... will try to do that atleast 3 times a week and see how I get on!

WigWamBam · 23/07/2006 18:23

Ohhhhh - don't go saying that 12st 6lb is "shocking" ... you're about the lightest on this thread and most of us can give you several stone on that.

I find that exercise is the key for me, too - I lose much quicker when I combine diet and exercise. Sadly walking dd to school and back is about the only exercise I've been getting recently and that's no help at all! Am going to start going to the gym with another MNer after the holidays though ... she's promised to give them what for if anyone picks on me this time like they did the last time I went.

My sister gave me a copy of the Paul McKenna book and CD a while ago because she thought I could do with it (coming from someone who weighs even more than me I thought that was a bit rich!), it makes sense in a way but didn't really hit the spot for me.

OP posts:
Xavielli · 23/07/2006 18:47

Oh dear! I didnt mean to offend anyone All I meant that for me 3 stone overweight is ALOT!

I guess its all about finding the right balance and the right diet etc that we can keep going so as not to put the weight back on!

mumsyxx · 23/07/2006 19:00

not feeling as hungry today i was starving all weekend i think its just cos i had a break of the diet for a little while and starting back on it again was a killer but back on the wagon now hopefully anyway lol

WigWamBam · 23/07/2006 19:03

Oh no, not offended ... sorry, I should probably have put a at the end of that sentence! We're not called BIG MoFos for nothing though

Glad you're getting back on track, mumsy.

OP posts:
mumsyxx · 23/07/2006 19:04

yeah i watched the paul mckenna show i can make you thin it did make sense but i was afraid to try it incase i put on more weight ills tick with weight watchers for the moment seems to be working a girl in work though has lost an awfull lot of weight on that lipotrim diet anyone tried that ?

WigWamBam · 23/07/2006 22:06

Is Lipotrim the meal replacement diet that the GP can prescribe and you're monitored at the chemist every week? From what I gather you are on something horrible like 800 calories a day - 400 of them meal replacements, 400 of them are real food. It's not my kind of diet as I don't believe meal replacements teach you anything about changing your eating habits. When you stop the diet you go back to eating the only way you know, and put the weight back on.

Faddy diets, meal replacements aren't the way to go, for me. Sensible eating, lots of support (are you listening, dh?), increasing exercise has to be better - I'm trying for lifestyle changes that will change the way I eat for life, not just to lose a stack of weight and then put it on again. I've done that too often.

OP posts:
suejonez · 23/07/2006 22:42

Are you getting on any better with your DH over your diet? Has he seen the light yet?

I've had a terrible day - just eaten non-stop. I'm stressed by the adoption - no news yet about whether my papers have been approved in KAzakhstan and they've been there 6 weeks (should be about 3 ) so as usual my defence mechanism is to eat!

At least its only one day, hopefully I'll get back to normal tomorrow.

WigWamBam · 24/07/2006 10:15

Oh no - sounds really stressful and upsetting, sue. It's a tough process at the best of times without the additional stress of delays as well. Be nice to yourself for a bit - pamper yourself. Can you go and get something like a facial or a massage as a treat to yourself? Fingers crossed you hear something soon.

Dh is getting a bit better but not much. Naughty puddings and things come into the house for me at least once a week ... which I suppose is a little better than every day! He just doesn't get it, he thinks he's being nice.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 24/07/2006 11:32

Oh suejonez, poor you - how frustrating for you . Hope you get some good news soon. WWB - glad your DH is starting to get better - hope you can carry on persuading him in the right direction.

I've been eating more than I should over the weekend. DH not here (not back till next Saturday) and when he's not around, it's more difficult for me not to eat, maybe because there's nobody there to 'judge' me. So I've been having more food than I otherwise would have. Nothing too terrible, things like yoghurt and cereal or a banana, or a couple of glasses of wine (OK that one's pretty bad). But thank you to whoever it was who suggested frozen Frubes - had my first one last night, and they're great. All I have to do now is to keep them away from DD and DS. And our internet connection's been REALLY slow since about last Thursday. I can get onto MN intermittently, but can't spend ages on there like I normally do, so it's really frustrating, and gives me more time to eat (am at work at the moment).
