Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 07:40

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

I am an idiot and have done something very stupid. I just weighed myself at the end of the first day :(. The scales say I am 3lbs heavier - please reassure me this is not uncommon and some cheering, comforting words about how soon I can expect to see them go the other way would be good.

ScillyCow · 07/01/2013 21:36

Hi Bullet!
(I'm not actually on the Scillies)... but can see them from my window!!

Parmesan crisps a la microwave:
Slice parmasan into slices about 2 mm thick. Put 4 on a large dinner plate. Put into microwave for about 20 secs. Take out . Leave for a minute or so then peel off and leave to cool.

Scoff in 5 minutes or so when they have gone crispy.

halfthesize · 07/01/2013 21:40

kandinskysgirl I have added to you to the spreadsheet.

MsRinky · 07/01/2013 21:41

In the style of those affirmation thingies that litter Pinterest...

The first week of low carb is hard. Being fat and hating how you look is hard. Pick your hard...

halfthesize · 07/01/2013 21:41

Good luck Bullet with job interview.

JustasmallGless · 07/01/2013 21:42

The SandstoneCat - When I said that I was a daily weigher I often weigh myself at night and am always 2-3lb heavier. It magically disappears overnight!

Keep the faith and you WILL lose weight and feel better overall

Collywibbles · 07/01/2013 21:43

Nooooo Cat - don't weigh yourself at the end of the day! You are weighing all the food and water you have consumed throughout the day. 1 litre of water weighs over 2lbs so you are bound to put weight on! Try and resist daily weighing as well as you will have natural fluctuations which can be disheartening.

Thank you for putting me back on the spreadsheet - will try and keep up with the threads this time!

Doshusallie · 07/01/2013 21:43

Sandstonecat - by doing that you have just weighed yourself, all the food you have eaten today, plus all the fluid you have drunk. Of course you will be heavier than this morning. Try and weigh every couple of days, only in the morning, first thing, naked, pre breakfast and any drinks and ideally post poo.

cocolepew · 07/01/2013 21:45

If someone has the time could they put my weight in the spreadsheet please? 168lbs. Thanks Smile.

mumat39 · 07/01/2013 21:47

Hello. How long can I keep leftover roast chicken? I made it yesterday but forgot to eat it today. Will it keep until tomorrow?

Also, I've been really silly. :(. I was a bit busy today so didn't get time to sort out food. I went shopping to get some things and picked up some sainsburys basics olives. I've eaten a whole tub :( and I didn't notice there was citric acid in them. I looked at the carb content and thought perfect. Have I just undone the first 2 days of being good?

Also I'm feeling a bit shaky, like I have low blood sugar and need to eat, and that was after I'd had my evening meal. Is that normal? Or could it be the olives. I was trying so hard but still made a mistake. Confused

Hope everyone else is having a good first day.

Jacaqueen · 07/01/2013 21:49

Only ever weigh first thing in the morning, after you pee, but before you get dressed. All the water and food you have had throughout the day will effect the sales.

Jacaqueen · 07/01/2013 21:52

I love the way we are all jumping on with the same advice. BIWI has taught us well.

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 21:53

mrshercule Thankyou kindly Thanks

Gosh, just come over with a horrid headache Sad ugh. I've drank a litre more water than I needed to as well, so it can't be dehydration.

NoelHeadbands · 07/01/2013 21:53

I usually try to squeeze out two wees in the morning before I weigh. And always before the shower, in case my wet hair weighs more.

What a wally Blush

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 21:54

scilly you must live near me Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/01/2013 21:55

Evening. Headache gone but god it was sick

Been a good day nosh wise and feel in the zone. So all good here. I must be in Day 4 or 5 now.

TheSandstoneCat · 07/01/2013 21:58

Thanks folks - I know not to do it but I still can't help myself. I am an irrational woman! Night all

mumat39 · 07/01/2013 21:58

I managed to get hold of some ketostix and just used one.

The colour was in between the trace and small (1.5).

Is that okay? I haven't been managing my 3 ltrs per day so far but am trying to increase what I'm drinking each day. Also, I had about 3 cups of tea today.

What s the best Time of day to use them or doesn't it matter?

Thanks so much and sorry for asking about wee. Blush

Doshusallie · 07/01/2013 22:00

Noel - we've had all sorts of weighing idiosyncrasies revealed on here - before applying deodorant is one that springs to mind..... Grin. Always weighing thrice and choosing the lowest one..... Etc

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 22:02

Ooooh my bastarding head Sad

NoelHeadbands · 07/01/2013 22:02

I wouldn't mind, but I've got really short hair Grin

Jacaqueen · 07/01/2013 22:02

Don't forget to blow your nose before you weigh.

thenightsky · 07/01/2013 22:02

I can identify with the crazy weighing rituals... I actually get weighed before I put my earrings in and my moisturiser on!

Jacaqueen · 07/01/2013 22:03

Paracetamol and a large glass of water is what you need.

NoelHeadbands · 07/01/2013 22:04

Early night slatternly sleep it off. Hope it's gone soon
