A new thread for those of us who started in January 2012 and anyone starting now. Everyone welcome for support, encouragement and occasional arse kicking :)

Hello and welcome newbies :)

Cinnamon well done on getting out there, hope it continues to improve.

I did week 8 run 2 today which on my app is the last run before doing the full 5k, so as of the next run I'll officially be a graduate! I'm going to carry on doing 3x week, I have mapped out a 5k circular route which I'm hoping I can do in under 35 mins.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/11/2012 14:05

CharlotteBronteSaurus I just kept to running three times a week and tried to speed up where I felt I was confortable and in time got my speed down. I also joined a running group in May and so one of my runs was with them which was interval training, timed miles, circuit training, relays etc and I think that helped my speed.

Missing In Action NaiceSpam :). That's not bad, would be almost 4K in 30 mins which I think is very good for being at the start of c25k. I haven't had a single run I wasn't out of breath at the end of so don't worry!

Not sure cinnamon it is certainly painful, not worse in the morning, but worse after I have been sitting down. I hope it gets easier soon cos it hurts Sad[pathetic]! I was running to loose a bit of weight! So I will have to try and loose weight while sitting with my feet up, hmm, not an easy option. The nurofen is not an option either at the moment as I am still breastfeeding.

EauRouge · 11/11/2012 08:29

Hello, can I join too? I did W1R1 yesterday morning. I'm not really trying to lose weight, although if a couple of pounds drop off then I won't mind, but I do want to tone up and get fit.

Am a bit achey this morning, like UmBongo I was OK before I sat down for 3 hours- picked the wrong day to go to the cinema!

BTW UmBongo, isn't nurofen just ibuprofen? You can take that while you're breastfeeding. Try http://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/Analgesia_and_Breastfeeding_March_2010.pdf for more info about it. I get the feeling I will be on ibuprofen for much of today!

MegBusset · 11/11/2012 08:37

Morning all, well I am officially a C25k graduate this morning :) Did my route in 31m30s, not bad considering I could barely stagger for a minute 8 weeks ago!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/11/2012 11:06

Yay, congratulations MegBusset!!!! It's a great feeling, well done :)

Welcome EauRouge!

Well MegBusset, can't wait to join you.
I've registered with Park Run tonight - just to give myself that little extra motivation.

DowntonAbbess · 12/11/2012 15:33

Thanks for the welcome!

Am hopefully going to start this on Wednesday, if I can find the charging lead for my iplayer and it is not tipping it down like it has been today.

Just a quick question: what do you do about food? I'm intending to go out at about half 5ish. I have a biggish breakfast (eg eggs on toast) but only a small lunch (eg fruit, or a wee bowl of soup). I'm presuming I should eat something else before I go but what? And when?

EauRouge · 12/11/2012 17:10

Thanks for the welcome! Didn't make it out this morning for W1R2, my alarm mysteriously didn't go off Hmm (DH insists it was nothing to do with him) so I will only manage 2 runs this week. Not a good start! Bit peed off.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/11/2012 20:59

I personally wouldn't eat DowtonAbbess, but you will soon know yourself what suits you best. I've had some great runs when I've been hungry when I went out :)

That's pants EauRouge, don't worry about only running twice this week, next week you will do three Grin

Went to running club last night and did quite a lot, 12 min run to where we started then kind of interval training. We worked in pairs, from one point one ran round the circular route and the other gently jogged in the other direction we did that for three lots of 6 mins with 2 min break between. Then we raced against our partner, 2 laps in opposite directions as fat as you as we were racing our partners and then the 12 jog back to cars. My foot hurt every time we took a break so was limp running the first few 30 seconds of each new run but otherwise all good :)

DowntonAbbess · 13/11/2012 12:27

Thanks cinnamon I'll try it on an empty stomach the first time and see how I get on.

One more question - do you go out when it's pouring? I'll walk in waterproofs but I'm not sure I fancy the idea of running in them!

cinnamongreyhound · 13/11/2012 12:59

I try to avoid very heavy rain but I have been hailed on whilst running! I just think that I'm only out for 30 mins and I'm going to shower when I get home anyway so doesn't matter if I'm wet. Water dripping of my nose is the worst part and damp clothes in the washing basket!

Hell, newbie here, coming across from another thread where C25k was reccommended. I've seen it talked about so many times on mn, but it seems now is finally my time to not just think about it but actually get up and do it.

I've just done my second run tonight and I really quite enjoyed it. It seems strange to say that as I have always hated running and the weather is awful as I live in Scotland.

I think just having something beep at me and tell me what to do is really what I need.

LemonBreeland · 13/11/2012 20:58

Oops just realised it says hell, not hello Blush

MegBusset · 14/11/2012 13:47

Hello (or even Hell!) newbies and everyone else. Cinnamon sounds like you are making really good progress back to fighting fitness!

I don't run in heavy rain but I don't mind a bit of drizzle. I haven't bothered getting a waterproof jacket, I wear three layers on top and a hat anyway so figure I can only get so wet in half an hour!

MegBusset · 14/11/2012 13:49

Did my regular 5k this lunchtime... first time out since Sunday as I had strained something in my neck, seems OK post-run so hopefully I won't stiffen up later. A bit slower than Sunday's run, mainly due to having to stop to wait for cars to pass, but I'm not really fussed about time as long as I can make the distance :)

Em3978 · 14/11/2012 18:52

Hello everyone, I'm back (I hope)!
I've not run for about 8 weeks because of a sore hip, no idea whats going on with it, but a load of rest and not being silly has eased it off and it seems to be behaving now.

Anyway I finally got out this aft for a gentle run, I would back the mp3 player to week 6 run 2 (it was fairly random!); 10 min run, 3 min walk, 10 min run and I managed it. Now I need to work back up to week 9, which i was just about to start :(

LemonBreeland · 15/11/2012 13:24

I did w1r2 on Tuesday and felt great, but today I'm aching terribly. I'm supposed to do run3 tonight, not sure whether to power through the aches or leave it until tomorrow.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/11/2012 20:31

Well done MegBusset and Em3978! Hope you're both fighting fit for your next run.

A bit late now probably LemonBreeland but I find running helps get everything moving and actually improves achy muscles.

I went out again tonight, only did 25 mins due to a different route from ds1's gymnastics and not quite sure how far I needed to go! Was good and I apparently ran 4.65Km but think ill check it as I'm not sure how the Nike+ thingy works it out :)

I decided to go out this afternoon cinnamon. Made it hard on myslef as I had DD in the pushchair. Managed to get my gps working so had runkeeper on too.

Glad that runkeeper is working as now I can see how much further I am running each week as I move through the programme.

shithappensx1000 · 16/11/2012 07:03

How is everyone this morning? I have just completed the couch to 5k run! Feels great to have made it.
