Strained my neck again this morning while trying not to drop a breadmaker down the stairs (don't ask) but managed my 5k this afternoon. Feeling ravenous now; I'm going out for tapas with DH tonight so intend to undo all my good work with halloumi and wine :)

I completed W1 yesterday after starting last Sunday. Loving it so far Grin

A couple of questions if anyone can help. :)

I'm feeling like going out again today after yesterdays run however,
Laura says leave a day between runs and it's very frosty here.

So should I wait another day and leave at least a day between runs?
Is it advisable to run on hard frozen muddy grass? I'm concerned about picking up an injury on uneven hard ground.

Welcome ElenorRigby! I would say do what feels right for you, of you want to go then go but don't be suprised if you feel a bit more achey and I would say don't go everyday of the week. As with the frozen ground I don't think it's any different to running on the pavement. Keep your eye out for the uneven bits :). I broke my foot 9 weeks ago and I feel it when I turn or go up and down curbs so I am very aware now of the surface I'm running on!

Hi Elenor, I just finished week one yesterday as well- great feeling, isn't it? I was thinking about going two days in a row too but I was advised on a running forum to leave a day in between because even if you feel fine, your muscles need time to repair themselves. I've been chucking in a bit of yoga and weights on off days so that I don't get too bored.

Elenor I started on Sunday too. I did my 3rd run on Thursday and I'm starting week 2 today, so we are at the same stage.

One day last week I felt like doing two days in a row too, I think getting started has just got me so motivated. I didn't though and was quite glad I had the rest day as I think my mind was more willing than my body would have been.

Eau Rouge, great that we are all at the same stage. I found week 1 reasonably easy so looking forward to starting week 2 todsy to se if I can manage it.

Oh many thanks everyone.
Cinnamon I felt like going out but had a nagging feeling as EauRouge said that I should let my body recover especially after only starting last Sunday.
It's 10+ years since I did an significant exercise, I'm 2 stone overweight and over 40, so although I'm enthusiastic I also need to be realistic and careful too! ;) I really dont want to pick up an injury early on.

Great stuff Lmon and EauRouge that we are at the same stage! Its really good to not do this alone. :)

Yes, it's lovely to have other people at the same stage. I found week one easier than I thought. I might get left behind a bit, I've only got the time to go twice this week and then I'm away at the weekend. I've only been finding the time by getting up an hour earlier. I never thought I'd be one of those people that goes running at 7am Grin

Eaurouge I could not do that. I like my sleep too much. I end up going out once the dc are in bed and dh is home. It is hard once you are cosy in the warm to be motivated, but I have found myself wanting to do it.

I'm more of a lark than an owl, by the time I manage to persuade the DDs into bed I can barely muster the energy to change channels on the TV! I find I'm somehow more energetic during the day if I go out in the mornings.

Being able to spend half an hour on my own is a great motivator Grin but you are right, I've found myself wanting to do it too. An old man walking his dog called me bonkers the other day and I laughed because I used to think the same thing, but I get it now.

Well last night I completed w2r1. I have just got new trainers and found myself going faster when I was jogging. I also felt like I could have run for longer than I had to. But I stuck to the programme. Maybe I will try running a little faster next time.

I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying it, even though it was freezing last night.

I just got a hi-vis running jacket. I think I'll be visible from space. W2R1 for me tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous.

I just got some karrimor running shoes. They were pretty cheap, but the trainers I had beofre were more a fashion pair, rather than for running. My feet felt lighter.

I want a hi vis vest, DH was laughing at me.

I was nervous for week 2, the first 90 seconds of running seemed really long, but after that I really go into it.

My top is Karrimor too, they seem to do fairly good value stuff. How are the shoes?

I do look completely ridiculous in the hi-vis top but I run on the road (it's a very quite country lane but still get the odd car down there) and it's still pretty dark when I go out in the mornings so I thought I should wear something a bit visible. I'll probably cause a stampede when I go past the sheep field Grin

I always find the first interval the toughest, I don't know why. 90 seconds is going to seem like forever.

Mine are saucony I checked out the runners world website for recommendations and then bought them on amazon for £45. My top and bottoms are Karrimor from sports direct, cheap and cheerful :)

Hello all , I hope you don't mind me popping my head round the door , I have recently stopped smoking and I am on a general health kick .

But , I am overweight ( need to lose three stone ) has anybody else managed to go from lard arse to capable of running more than ten seconds ?

Just going off to have a look at runners world Cinnamon. Sounds interesting. Mine are trail shoes as a fair aprt of my running will be in our local park which is rather gravelly. I feel better with a bit more grip.

I am still wearing some old trackie bottoms for the moment as I'm still doing a lot of walking. I think I would get cold in leggings. Hoping Santa will bring me a top and bottoms. Grin

I'm wearing old tracky bottoms too, ironically the ones I used to wear when I was sitting around eating biscuits Grin I got my top from sports direct too, it was only £12 or something.

Tequila, I'm not overweight but I haven't done any proper exercise for years so I'm really out of shape. You start off very gently though, the first few sessions are mostly walking.

No secret just decreasing calories, I started cutting down on portion sizes and buying small treats/low calorie hot chocolate for the evening cravings. I joined mfp after a few months and just stuck to the calorie allowance I was given for my weight, height, activity level and chosen weekly weightloss. Haven't cut anything out just thought more about what I'm eating and if I want a treat which I know is high calorie I will have a smaller lunch/dinner to compensate. I now run 3 times a week which burns about 350 calories a time so doesn't make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things! I lost it over 8 months and have been maintaining since the end of July. I work 50 hours a week and have two boys 2 and 5 so if I can do it so can anyone :)

I have two we boys as well ( 6 and 8 ) and work too but you are right , if I want to find the time then I will .

I just want to feel better about myself and of course the vain shallow me wants to look good in a frock Grin

For me it wasn't about how I looked but how I felt. I didn't have a lot of energy and was worried about my health in the future (although I've been lucky to have good health throughout my life). I wanted to be fit and healthy for my boys and not be one of those mums who always sits at the side watching their kids with their dad. It has taken me a while to get used to my new body as I have quite a small frame, hadn't realised before as I've always been over weight since I was an adult. I have very narrow hips and my boobs have gone from a 36G to 32DD :( so I have a very athletic figure now, which I think a lot of women envy but it's not really what I had in mind when I started!
