This is a thread for all those embarking on, continuing and returning to Sole Source type Diets.

For some of us, its the only way to go. As the saying goes "it works if you work it".

I've just started Vlcd (last week) following slim and save which is essentially CD/lighter life without the middle man and reduced cost. I'm trying to keep 100% but had first day out with girls -took soup & asked for bowl of hot water while they ate. Felt great to get through it but had 3 of DD maltesers on way home Shock

My weigh in on Wed - bit nervous.
I've checked with stix and still holding onto ketosis and hoping I can keep e resolve to stick to this cos I'd love to lose couple of stones - currently miserable and feel like I'm not myself.
Im also hoping you could Help- I've got friends coming over for dinner on Saturday and trying to plan a meal that I can enjoy low carb stuff but has enough scummy stuff for everyone else. Currently thinking salmon & prawn with salad plus crab pate blinis (not for me) then beef & chicken fajitas with salad (I'll not have the fajitas) but stuck on dessert Any ideas?

BigusBumus · 31/07/2012 08:20

Hi trackerc, your menu sounds v nice! I would be inclined to just not eat pudding and make them something normal, like a cheesecake or apple pie. But then I don't have a sweet tooth and could easily go without.

On the other hand, if you would be too tempted with sweet stuff but not fussed
about cheese, buy a fabulous cheese platter and crackers and serve them that. You don't HAVE to have pudding!

BigusBumus · 31/07/2012 08:23

Oh just read that you'll not have the fajitas! But you can eat the meat, especially if fried in spray rather than oil and you use the powdered flavouring rather than the saucy one. Just have it on a plate with some fat free yogurt in place of sour cream and sprinkle of low fat cheese. Just no tortilla!

Fanjita · 31/07/2012 10:11

Morning! Can I join too please? I am starting exante today and I must, must, MUST stick to it. I have a lot to lose and my joints are giving me gip! Wishing you all and myself lots of willpower.

trackerc · 31/07/2012 14:57

BigusBumus thanks for post. I meant I won't have tortillas, eat just the meat. Couldn't remember the word for tortillas, Doh!
I think cheese is a great idea but I have had a request from friends for something chocolate, so may do a chocolate pot in a shot glass - some lovely recipes on the net. Nom nom nom I'm really looking forward to practicing my skills and getting right back on it on Sunday.
Fanjita - I'm new at this but 8 days in and don't feel hungry, in fact am more at risk of forgetting to have the shakes when previously a general gannet Blush Let's crack this together on this forum.

Fanjita · 01/08/2012 22:24

Thanks trackerc for the welcome :) Day 2 has gone well for me...long may it last!

PippiL · 03/08/2012 08:54

Welcome all.

Not been on for a while. I'm still going, on stage 3 CWP. I stalled in my 3rd week and the addition of some carbs has helped me lose more!

Muesli for breakfast, 2 products then a huge dinner with masses of protein and small portion of carbs.

Not far to go now, about 11lbs ish til goal. Feel great, clothes fit so much better. That has helped when idiots like my boss tell me how terrible the diet is despite knowing nothing about it. He actually waved a flapjack in front of my face last week.

laura4jasmine · 04/08/2012 08:22

Morning!

I was doing Lighter Life a while back but fell spectaculaly (I'm rubbish at spelling!) off the wagon and put on loads. So here I am back on day one with a much better attitude and a desire to get this done properly once and for all. I had real trouble last time when I was out as I didn't feel I could bring any of the liquid packs (I like them done in the blender) and I hated the bars. When I went to see my counsellor yesterday she let me try one of the bars that has changed and it was yummy. I feel much more positive about coping in any situation now and so determined.
Well, that's enough rambling from me this early in the morning! Look forward to chatting to you :)

pinkdelight · 06/08/2012 15:39

Hullo anyone who's around! Not been on this thread before - find these looong threads a bit intimidating if you've not been here from the start. But thought I'd take a change and wade in anyway...

I've been doing LL for eight weeks now and lost almost 2 stone. My plan was to do three months and lose 3 stone (taking me from 14st to 11st), but am getting fed up now and thinking of phasing it out and just doing low carb and exercise. I wasn't doing any exercise when I started but now that I am, and it's quite a hardcore bootcampy type class twice a week, I feel like I'd rather do more of that and eat proper (but healthy) food. So partly I want to stop cos I feel like it's done it's job of taking me to a new (healthier) perception/lifestyle. But I also just feel fed up of the sole sourcing, especially because the group-wise of things has gone really downhill lately, with everyone away on hols or giving up for the summer or just staying home to watch the Olympics! Last week there were only two people at the group and it's been thin on the ground for at least three weeks now. I know it's not all about the group, but it did play a big part in changing my mindset and helping me to feel motivated. It kind of has the opposite effect when no one else is making the effort.

So I guess I'm partly here just to offload, partly testing the water to see if others have had this experience/felt this way, and seeing whether people agree that coming off LLT, either onto Lite or just straight into management is okay?

laura4jasmine · 08/08/2012 22:12

Hi Pink, Was at my LL class on Mon and what came accross loud and clear from those who were returning, was management's the key to keeping the weight off. You can still continue to loose weight (if you need to) but re-educate your eating patterns. I would say that from all I've heard and read, this feeling of 'I can do it myself now' is a bit of a red herring. It's really only you that can decide what is right for you, but I wish you loads of luck and congrats on a fab loss so far.

AFM I started LL on Sat and on Mon had already lost 8lbs. I am loving the changes they have made to the raspberry bar (couldn't stand any of the bars before), feel like I have a choice of what to eat now and can break it up a bit. I am a grazer and find 4 set meals a day hard, so now I have my bar in 2 halves and make fab crisps with the onion or chicken soup. Feeling very positive just now, hope you are all having a good week.

3fabkids · 11/08/2012 19:53

Hello everyone, hope you don't mind me joining but I have been reading this forum all day from the beginning. I started ss on Monday so due my first weigh in on Monday. Not found hunger too much of an issue since day 3 but finding it so hard to not eat!!! Had some chicken and prawns today as well as 3 chewy sweets :-( feel bad, hope it won't ruin weight loss. I'm 13.4 and 5'7" would like to lose 3 stone hopefully to get back to pre kid weight. I Have been so inspired by you all and looking forward to my first weigh in, fingers crossed I have as good of a start of some of you xxx

IShallWearMidnight · 17/08/2012 22:29

I'm starting Slim and Save on Tuesday when my packs arrive, so am preparing myself by no carbing till then (well, I will be after tomorrow, which is a final treat day Wink). I've previously had loads of success with Cambridge, until the adding food back in part (as I had a load of family stuff going on and couldn't get my head round the reintroduction of food properly). Plus I found the counsellor and I got on too well, so ended up chatting rather than counselling, AND the price went rocketing up....

So I've had good reports of Slim and Save, I need to do something dietwise as I'm currently not able to do much exercise, and losing weight will help with that.

Will be here moaning about the day 4 headache and the wine withdrawal, so lots of rah rah rah - ing please Grin.

IShallWearMidnight · 21/08/2012 10:56

Day 1, strawberry shake for breakfast, and 1 litre of water down Smile.

Elderwand · 27/08/2012 22:57

Marking my place :) start on Wednesday - roll on Christmas!

IShallWearMidnight · 28/08/2012 17:31

8lbs down in week one Grin

Good luck Elderwand.

Elderwand · 28/08/2012 21:17

Thanks Ishall really nervous, will post as soon as I have my starting weight! Have stuffed my face todayBlush.

Elderwand · 28/08/2012 21:37

Well done on your 8lbs that's fantastic! How much would you like to lose?

Elderwand · 29/08/2012 09:52

Got weighed today - 11.5 stone am thoroughly ashamed!

Trying to eat the porridge....:)

X

IShallWearMidnight · 29/08/2012 16:20

hahahahaha - 11.5 is my target Grin. Was 14.4 (but carry it well, so generally people don't believe what I weigh, which is quite handy Wink).

I just have shakes, I don't think I could face meal replacement porridge.

Elderwand · 29/08/2012 16:56

The porridge was disgusting getting them changed to shakes! Will try ss plus, hopefully will lose some weight!

Elderwand · 29/08/2012 16:58

Sorry that's supposed to read 11.7 :(

IShallWearMidnight · 01/09/2012 17:48

how are you finding it Elderwand? Getting past the horrible first few days OK?

Elderwand · 01/09/2012 20:57

God I am starving.....really could eat a horse! Tried ss+ which is better, checked my self on my own scales lost 2lb which is rubbish for the way I am feeling.... Angry also my CDC scales weight 1/2 a stone heavier!
Having the oriental soup and sticking my daily allowance of prawns in :) it's lovely and the mint choc shake. Everything else I have tried is revolting!
How are you going ISHALL? Envy your 8 pounds!

Elderwand · 01/09/2012 21:01

Another thing while I rant, as it's getting colder and nights are drawing in its going to get a lot more difficult. Eg tonight wanted crips ( chocs, biscuits, pizza, pasta rice etc ) while we watched dr who!

I just keep remembering I will be slim by Christmas ( keeping thinking of my Christmas dinner )

X

Ps this thread is slow, wonder if anyone else is in our position ?

IShallWearMidnight · 01/09/2012 22:29

I have more to lose than you, remember, so my initial losses are bound to be bigger Sad. I did fail the other day ad had a packet of hula hoops, but I'm tracking everything on My Fitness Pal and by missing out a shake (and having a multivitamin Blush) I wasn't over my carbs, so presumably am still in ketosis. Did feel rubbish for the rest of the day though, so not sure if it was worth it.

I have been slacking a bit on the water front, so need ot get my bladder trained before back to everything starts next week - don't have much in the way of school runs to do (as DC are older), but still have activities they need to ber taken to, so need to plan out my loo stops Grin.

I'll have a prowl round this section and see if there's anyone else doing a VLCD and drag them over here, otherwise we can just chat to ourselves. I'd managed to be fairly spoiler-free for Dr Who, so was suitably Shock at the new companion. I find having shake/meal 3 ad 4 quite close together between 5 and 7 stops the carb cravings during essential TV viewing - it#s the 3-5 slot I find hardest.
