A stone in 10 weeks - doable?

I am bridesmaid at DSis wedding in 10 very short weeks, and thanks to her hen night and various friends' 40th parties I have not started the weight loss regime I need to get into better shape!

I am about 12 stone and want to be at most 11, maybe even less. I lost a stone a year ago after DD turned 1 so I know I can do it, but I am really struggling to get organised enough this time round.

Any tips/advice/cheerleading would be most welcome Smile

Absolutely it is doable! Average weight loss that is sustainable/long-term is 1-2lbs per week. The beginning of a diet will always see a greater loss, so you should be able to achieve that.

Why not come and join my low carb Bootcamp? There are around 80 of us doing it.

Here's the very first thread, to give you the background to it

Although we're just about to start week 5, people are joining all the time - you will be very welcome! Lots of support from others as well, which is important.

I've lost 11 pounds in 3.5 weeks following a low gi diet and exercise
Was 12.5 stone now 11.9 stone so yes I think it's doable :)

Totally doable. Could even lose 1.5 stone if you are careful. Either try low carb ike BIWI suggests, or dukan - basically low fat, moderate carb and high protein. You will need to be strict though.

I had a look at the link but I don't really know where to start with a low carb diet. Looks a bit scary!

fizzy that is great progress, can I ask what exercise you did? At the minute I walk most places but not necessarily at an out of breath pace.

Foreveronadiet, I would love to try a strict diet but have no ides how I would incorporate it into real life, eating with dh in the evening, never being organied enough to take a packed lunch to work etc.

I know it sounds ike I am talking myself out of working hard at this, I probably am! I just love my latte on way to work, a choc digestive with a cuppa - my only vices and I see them as my treats. I need to find other ways to treat myself!

I'm on the closer diet plan (run by tescos diets)

They give me a meal
Plan I choose from meal choices for the week
They give me a shopping list and recipies
Costs 2.50 a week and I've signed up for a ten week plan

Typical day
B- grilled low fat sausage and 1 slice bacon with poached egg and brown toast
L- cheese and tomato brown roll and salad
D- chicken stuffed with sundries tomatoes and mozzarella plus baked courgette and 3boiled baby potatoes
Snack- tea and a slice of toast and low fat jam

I've mainly been doing an hours walk 4/5 times with a buggy and dog, I've also got a excervise plan with closer with videos of what I should be doing !

Does that help , I'm eating nicer food then ever and feeling really greatSmile

Dukan - although he advocates a pure protein day followed by protein and veg I often do pure protein breakfast and lunch and protein and veg for dinner.

Breakfast - 2 egg omelette
Skinny latte allowed on dukan.
Work lunch Cottage cheese and tuna - no preparation required! Or cold cuts.
Dinner - meat / fish and veg - my DH eats same as me.

choc digestive has to go though.

OK I am back, and doing quite well this week so far. I haven't had the stamina for total low carb but have cut out sugar and bread (apart from the odd slice of sourdough toast), drinking more water, more fruit, handfuls of almonds as a snack. Portion sizes smaller and all in all a much healthier diet (ok only 4 days in, but still....)

BUT, I haven't lost an ounce. Now normally when I do this I notice weight loss straight away, the first week of healthy eating I lose a few pounds. ANy ideas why that could be?

Cut down your carbs further (fruit is a key culprit here, along with the toast!) and add more fat.

lamandler · 17/05/2012 17:29

Sheesh this is tough!

Come over to the Bootcamp. Just 10 rules to follow. Honestly - it's easy!

swooosh · 17/05/2012 18:16

I've also lost a stone in three weeks. I did the Dukan diet but actually had a couple off 'off'ish days a week. I also tried to do exercise when I could, mainly the 30 day shred or just doing squats, sit ups and push ups when I thought of it (a few times a day) so yep totally possible.

foreverondiet · 17/05/2012 18:52

Cut out fruit. If you must eat then one lower sugar fruit (apple?) a day.

Also be careful with almonds - one serving (25g) a day enough.

LadyPeterWimsey · 17/05/2012 19:00

I am on target to have lost a stone in less than 3 weeks. Low carb all the way.

lamandler · 17/05/2012 20:00

Can someone link me the low carb rules then? Sounds like I'll have to....
