How much exercise should I do each day/week?

I want to lose 3 stone and really tone my v flabby tummy up. What should I do and when?

I found I couldn't fit exercise in anywhere in my day. So I started to walk the kids to school and was doing between 2 and 6 miles a day, this helped with my weight loss as a daily exercise, so it's a good one to start with for general fitness. The tummy bit is those nasty scrunches and sit up type of exercises which I am too lazy to do!

I think they advise 30 mins every day, which isn't as bad as it sounds, as shawn says walking the kids to School etc all counts. In addition to that I do three to five exercise classes a week as I need someone to shout at me very loudly to do toning exercises.

I would like the weight to drop off in a short space of time ideally. However would be happy to lose a stone by the end of January for starters.

My friend and I have started walking again but feel that we probably walk too quick and can only manage about 2 miles. So tomorrow we were thinking of walking slightly slower but try and stay out for about 40 minutes

quick walking is good! I have about 3 stone to lose, was 2 1/2 left but xmas and a dodgy knee have seen that half a stone creeping back on. am trying to cut out dairy as much as poss and minimal carbs in the evening, eat them at lunch so not sitting on them all evening. Also trying to do some exercise each day, even if it is just going up and down stairs 20 times! Anything that makes you warm/hot is good as it is getting your heart rate up. will watch this thread with interest for more ideas!

I've got 3 stone to loose too so as from Monday I've decided that in Morning going to walk up and down stairs 20x (dh bought me Martine's DVD so going to try and fit that in, in the mornings -30 mins) go for walk in afternoon with dd and ds and then at night do 50 crunches before bed all this and try and go low fat. A womans fat intake for the day is 70g so I am going to cut it down to 30g and try and eat my 5 portions of fruit/veg everyday. I figure that I should have lost the 3 stone by June.

we should be the 3 stone club!

if you have the bloody-mindedness for it, there is nothing like going to the gym and getting on a rowing machine for instant weight loss and muscle tone.

a bit of swimming and some weights or yoga to complement the walking might help ina more gentle way.

(about to try to do the same myself.)

mummygow · 07/01/2006 23:36

good idea mrspink

mrspink27 · 07/01/2006 23:38

i think trying lots of different things is good, i.e. a variety of classes, types of exercise etc. I would love to be able to go to the gym during the day and not in the evening but dd2 is not a fan of the creche, preferring to spend her time screaming, which is frustrating beyond belief! but i am determined!

mummygow · 07/01/2006 23:40

thats my prob mrspink my ds is only 10wks so have no one to watch him while I go to gym - so thats why I had to think of things to do in the house and with the kids - so I hope it works

shawn · 10/01/2006 20:38

Just read somewhere that you can tone your tummy up with just ten sit ups a day! So not 200 like Posh then?
