Kinect Your Fitness

Sassyfrassy · 26/12/2010 23:03

Having received a Kinect for Christmas I am now going to try to do some good excercise using the fitness program.

I thought it would be great if others who are using the Kinect to excercise and lose weight to get together and share thoughts and progress.

I did a cardio boxing and a zen work out class today which was good. I also played Kinect adventures for an hour which left me dripping but it was really good fun.

Tomorrow my plan is to do a personal trainer session, a cardio boxing and then finish with Zen for winding down.

Oh that one, I hate the way she says x. box. likes it will make it not sound like a gameGrin

The beckham one is expensive because it coes with a heart monitor, but if (like me) you can tell when your heart is beating faster then it's not worth itGrin

BuckBuckMcFate · 03/01/2011 13:46

yy, and the way she asks him if he has been eating doughnuts borders on stalker territory Grin

And rofl at 'but if (like me) you can tell when your heart is beating faster then it's not worth it'

ilythia · 03/01/2011 14:22

Grin it's a bit of a sore point with me. My little brother is an athlete and very into his fitness gadgets and he insisted that a heart monitor would be useful when I was running. Not only did it constrict my breathing, but it kept going mad beeping when my heartrate went over a certain amount as it thought I was having heart failure. I wasn't. I was just running up a hillBlush

Okay, just done 2 cardio boxing sessions (which are only 5 mins, annoying), a workout 'get into shape' or some such twee name, smashing bricks game and a zen class. Feel suitably exhausted. And mildly irritated at overly bouncy trainer woman thing.

I also don't like the little pause betwen each 'bit' of the class but just kept going on previous activity, I know it's only a few seconds but it still puts me off a bit.

One thing I do want to know, is all these classes are heavy into legs and squatsa/lunges. Does anyone know which workout/class is for abs? or arms? but abs specially would be awesome.
ta muchly.

I've just had a go with some brick smashing and a cardio work out. They really do take their time when explaining stuff, but I felt pleased otherwise, it was at the right level for my fitness (or lack thereof.)

May I join please? I've got the your shape fitness evolved. I've just done my 4th session on it. Just wondering, how many calories are you aiming to burn per session? I've managed 530 (over the 4 sessions) I think but the fitness test killed me. I could barely walk for 3 days Shock

Sassyfrassy · 03/01/2011 21:48

Well done Nelly, that's really good.

So far I have managed about 50 Blush but I am going to step it up and will aim for more like 100 or so a session.

God yes, the fitness test was brutal!
Don't feel too bad this morning. Am considering going out to buy dance central later but unsure if it will be worth it along with the your fitness as well....

NellyNoKnicks · 04/01/2011 09:48

Thank you Sassyfrassy - I have found it a bit easier as the sessions progressed, which is good but I think thats the fact I did cardio boxing 2 days in a row - so I know whats coming up and I've practised it. Doesn't stop my legs being massively sore again today though :( Its the fitness test feeling all over again!

Theres so much to this programme I want to be able to do it all before I can justify buying anything else

Does anyone else do the Zen bit? I find that really hard, with all the balancing, and getting the pose exactly right.... I've only attempted level one of that. Any tips?

ilythia · 04/01/2011 19:51

Slightly lighter day today, 2 cardioboxing classes and some hulahooping, which absolutely wrecks me.

I have done the zen classes, I find if I am wearing baggy trousers it says I am not doing it right, and you have to be really precise, but it is a bit relaxing I suppose, once you ignore the percentage marks....

There is a 'lights' game in the gym games thing which is supposed to be like dancing, it's not great though,a nd impossible if you have short legs, DD1 got most cross with it!

Sassyfrassy · 04/01/2011 20:42

Have you guys seen that there is a new bollywood dance workout to download? I havent tried it but I downloaded the trial version and will give it a go tomorrow.

Oh is that what's on the download? cool. Might give that a go tmorrow as well

WickedWitchSouthWest · 04/01/2011 22:30

Hi ladies

Hope you don't mind me crashing your thread, but my gadget boy husband would love to get me a fitness game - I am moany about my weight at the moment but with massive breastfeeding boobs and the dark nights I'm not going out running. I love doing 30 day shred so I was wondering if you would mind helping me out? I know a few of you are using Fitness Evolved, is that the one with the bollywood dance add on? And do you know if you can tell it which bit you want to work and it will put together a programme of activities or do you have to try and work out for yourself which activites will do it?! This is why I like the Shred - it's half an hour of hell but it works perfectly!

It's just trying to find the time with a baby who sleeps 40 minutes max, and the school run. I'm not sure I have longer than 30 mins a day Confused

Thank you, and sorry for the waffle Grin

Sassyfrassy · 04/01/2011 22:46

Your fitness evolved is the one that has a bollywood dance add on that you can download.

After an initial assessment it will recommend personal trainer programs, such as get in shape after baby, toning, cardio etc. You can also choose programs like cardio boxing and Zen.

The good thing is, that unlike a dvd, the game can tell (fairly well) if you are doing it right and will tell you what to do to improve. So when doing squats, if you arent going low enough you will know about it and so on.

Thanks Sassy, that's brilliant, and exactly what I wanted to hear! Looks like I've finally chosen a Christmas present Grin

ilythia · 05/01/2011 10:40

I have the shred but it does get tedious, and no feedback like sassy said. I love this one as the full workouts are about 20 minutes but the quick classes are 5 minutes so you can change your workout. I have been doing a mix of cardio boxing and a 'get into shape' class, and then some games (hula hooping is brutal for abs) to finish off. Much mroe fun thatn same old same old.

I am still trying to find something that actually does ab exercises but no luck.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 05/01/2011 21:38

That's definitely where the shred works - abs! But yes, it is repetitive and I need different things to keep me going. Maybe it's a case of a shred workout once a week on top of the more fun stuff.
