Taking a break from Mounjaro for a minor procedure?

I’m due to have an endoscopy to look at my pancreas next week and the nurse rang me today to discuss the procedure and check about my general health, allergies etc.

When I mentioned taking Mounjaro, she said they didn’t have any specific guidelines but recommended that I didn’t take it on Friday as usual and take it the day after my procedure instead. So almost a week later.

She advised that they’ve had to abort the procedure when they’ve discovered food somewhere in the digestive system and because MJ slows down digestion, she thinks this is more likely to happen despite me fasting for at least 6 or even 12 hours beforehand.

I’m wondering if anyone else has taken a week’s break without any repercussions? I’m slightly worried that I’ll feel hugely ravenous and therefore struggle to fast from the night before? I’ve also got to travel by bus to hospital as DH doesn’t drive so I’ll be setting out about 7.30am and it’s a 2 hr bus ride.

I’m currently on 5mg MJ and have lost about 5.5 stones so far with another stone to go. The consultant at my previous appointment said I was fine to keep taking the MJ as he doesn’t think my current issue is related to it. He just wants a better look at the organs. However, this is purely about the risk of undigested food in my system.

I’m a bit anxious about the procedure so probably over thinking it.

The question got lost in the blah blah blah…

If you’ve taken a break from MJ, how quickly did you start to feel ravenous and want to eat the contents of the fridge?

You're overthinking it. Good luck with the procedure.

I’m an intermittent faster - I promise you you’ll manage to fast at least 12 hours.
Have your dinner the evening before as usual, do not over eat! Then brush your teeth and nothing but water until after your procedure.

its likely nerves will help with appetite anyway.

I missed my jab on Sunday, unintentionally. So I decided to skip a week and just see what happens.

So far my appetite is exactly the same. I do keep fancying things but know deep down I don't really want/need them. It's not hunger as such.

So far, I feel the same as if I'd jabbed and eating the same.

I had to have surgery last year and due to the anesthetic I had to stop 9 days before and I didn’t resume again until 3 weeks later. At the time I was on 5mg and just went straight back to that dose. All was fine.

I skipped the odd jab when I have gone on holiday or it’s Xmas. Not so that I can gorge myself but so I can eat a bit of what I fancy without being ill. It usually takes a few days of skipping it for the hunger to ramp up but then I just take it as normal the following week. I’ve lost 7 stones so far.

Short term will power was not the issue for me, it was always the long term consistency, so I haven’t had a problem whenever I have skipped a week. The fasting may be a little tricky, but when you have no choice for a medical procedure you know you just have to power through.

Good luck with the procedure.

i skipped a week for an op and barely noticed the difference to be honest. And they may ask you to fast for 24 hours (just clear fluids) or at least that is our local recommendation

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. Your comments are very reassuring to hear and I feel a little more relaxed about the situation now.
