Hello peeps. Thankyou for reading. Yes i know there are multiple threads about this topic but I've re read them multiple times and wanting some fresh answers I suppose. Im 28 had a gastric band put in 2019 and had it removed last year after it got badly infected. I am now 16 months post partum and I just cannot stop eating. Im 92 ish kg and want to be around 70/75 mark. The food noise is just insane. I'm thinking about food whilst I am eating and as soon as I stop I'm looking for more until I'm feeling sick. I am capable of calorie counting and weighing food so I do understand I will ned to put the work in but for me its the food noise. My brothers wedding is in december and the last thing I want is to not fit into the dress because I've gained weight..

Did it work for you? What was your starting weight and what dose worked for you? Anybody whos had bariatric surgery before and thwn done mounjaro?bThankyou!

I haven't had bariatric surgery but I have taken ozempic. I have lost 3 stone and ive been in it a year. Mainly the loss was in the first six months. The thing that stands out to me isn't actually the weight loss, it's the loss of food noise....it's revolutionised my life

Davros · 03/10/2026 13:56

I never had food noise but I’ve lost over 3 stone on Mounjaro after being on steroids for over 30 years

thepurgebegins · 03/10/2026 13:57

@AxolotlEars thankyou! What change have you actually noticed when you say that? It feels like it is impossible to be without food noise lol! Did you stop thinking about food, go to the kitchen and not want food, or stop eating large amounts etc? Im also worried about how you come off it. Am I essentially on it for the rest of my life even on a maintenance dose?

From my point of view, yes, Mounjaro really is that good. Or it has been for me. From the first day I did the injection (in July 2024) all that food obsession just stopped. I didn't think about food at all, I had to remind myself to eat, and I just didn't snack at all.

Not everyone gets that effect immediately, some it can take a while to build up, individual responses vary. But I've been losing weight since then and have lost 11 stone and a bit. Started at 22st, lost a chunk of weight at 7.5mg, then went to 10mg for a fair while, and now at 12.5mg to get right down to my target weight.

I don't know about being on it for life. It may be that I take Mounjaro, or another GLP1 or another medication as yet to be developed for the long term. I am currently thinking about trying Foundayo tablets once I am done with losing weight on Mounjaro. I know that I definitely don't want to yo-yo and I want to spend a long time in the healthy weight range before thinking I can stop taking medication for it altogether. I've been obese since childhood, so this isn't something that's going to be solved in the short term for me.

thepurgebegins · 03/10/2026 14:07

@SilenceInside thank you so much for replying in detail. Helps alot! Atm it feels like the food noise will never stop

Are you just looking to maintain your weight or lose it for December. Bc that isn’t much time to achieve a weight loss, even with Mounjaro.

Treetreetreetree · 03/10/2026 14:18

Hey OP you’ve been through so much. I’m also considering starting on weight loss drugs but I don’t know which one is best.

It’s a combination.

At its strongest food becomes repellant.. you actively don’t want it. Turned off from it. This only happened for a couple of weeks at the very start for me. At its lightest, which is where I spent most time, I would just forget about food until a meal time and then I’d have a small portion because I would rather be doing other stuff. I also craved lean proteins and fresh salads and fruits rather than processed food.

My siblings and parent said for them it was very different and they actively felt very sick and nauseous the whole time. They also vomited sometimes. I never did I just felt energetic and amazing all the time.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 03/10/2026 14:51

Mounjaro was amazing for me, it completely changed my life. I lost over 13 stone in a year, going from 24 stone 13 down to 11 stone. I’ve maintained that now for almost a year on a smaller dose which I plan to stay on forever. I used to get red faced and out of breath just walking for more than 5 mins. This morning I did parkrun, I’m going on a 20k hike tomorrow and I’ve just signed up for a 10k race and a strength based fitness competition! I’m a completely different person now to when I started at the beginning of last year.

thepurgebegins · 03/10/2026 14:57

@MummyInTheNecropolis oh wow congratulations! Rhats amazing Did you feel effect/ lose weight on the 2.5 dose or have to go up? I know it varies for different people. I definitely want to be in that position

I started losing weight as soon as I started taking it, I lost almost 2 stone in my first month on 2.5mg. Obviously this is unusual, and only happened because a. I was so heavy to begin with, and b. My diet was so awful beforehand (daily junk food binges). My weight loss slowed down a bit after that but I still lost around 3-4lbs a week. I lost most of it on 7.5mg and only went up to 10mg for the last couple of stone, never went higher and then titrated back down as soon as I hit my target weight. I am on 5mg now, I did a couple of months on 2.5 but found the food noise was becoming too strong so went back up to 5 which seems to do the job.

Flidina · 03/10/2026 15:27

I had a mini gastric bypass 3 years ago and have been on Mounjaro about 6 weeks, I've lost a stone, I'm on 5mg and had hardly any side effects, I will say it's taken till this week to feel any kind of appetite suppression, it wasn't immediate which I was surprised about.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 03/10/2026 17:01

I’m cross the NHS isn’t investing in our future health by covering this! They know how much of an investment it is- that it will save them money long term.
I will be doing it soon, too. I’m waiting until my lifestyle is less stressed so I can pay attention and work with it. I’m in survival mode at the moment.

amincharge · 03/10/2026 17:07

I was your weight and my target was 75kgs . I started in April 25 and have now reached my target . 2.5mgs was fab for about 5 months ,then started 5mgs . Had a break for a few weeks whilst in Australia and restarted in January. I never put on weight but was worried I was going to go down the slippery slope!
I stopped at 5mgs two months ago and so far so good.
Edit to say protein is your friend more filling than carbs !

All of that. I'm just not that interested in food at all. I do get hungry sometimes but I don’t really want to eat much, if at all. I think I'll be on it for the foreseeable. (T2 diabetic.)
I’ve just had some bran flakes with milk and a banana. It’s the only thing I’ve eaten all day and I wish I hadn’t tbh. Feeling a bit sick now. The main side effect is the nausea for me, but I am losing weight.

I had bariatric surgery 13 years ago, going from 26st to 13st in a year. Four children later I had regained back up to 22st. I lost 8st (again), then regained to 17st. I've been on MJ for 5 months and I've lost over 5st. It's an absolute game-changer. It's giving me the mental space to actually hear my body for the first time. I've stayed on 5mg with almost no side effects. I might need to be on it for the rest of my life, but I've never felt so 'normal' around food and nutrition. Highly recommended 🙂

Sogfree · Today 18:44

Yes, it really is that good.

I stopped wanting to eat from my first injection.

I started at 11.5 stone. I'm now down to 9 stone. My BMI is normal for the first time in my 32 years of adult life.

dinnerchickens · Today 18:50

I’ve been on MJ for 18 months and have lost 4 stone. I probably would have lost more by now but I’ve had a few holidays and took my eye off the ball a bit.

It is absolutely life-changing though. I used to think there was something wrong with me as I never stopped thinking about food. The first time I heard the phrase ‘food noise’, I realised I wasn’t alone - it’s very common, it’s just that many of us didn’t have the words to describe it.

Anyway, for me the effects were almost instant. I took the jab one evening and I woke up and for the first time in years, my first thoughts were literally nothing to do with food. I had a simple breakfast of scrambled eggs at around 7am and I remember I was working from home that day and was really busy - I suddenly looked at the clock, it was 2pm and I’d not even thought about food once. Normally a WFH day would be frequent trips to the fridge. And basically that was the beginning of my journey - I love it.

It’s very hard to describe but for me, I’m no longer waging an internal war against myself. On a high suppression day I could look at a plate of chicken and veg and look at a plate of my favourite food (probably creamy pasta and garlic bread) and be just as happy to have the chicken and veg. It’s weird but fabulous.

I have 2 stone left to lose and I plan to taper down and come off MJ.
