Anti depressants and WLI?

Is anyone taking WLI with anti depressants, specifically Effexor/venlaxafine? I have seen suggestions that GLP-1 can lower mood and I really don’t want that. I did ask my GP but she was fairly anti WLI altogether. The tablets aren’t available in my country yet. Thanks!

I am not on antidepressants but my experience of WLI is the opposite. MJ has had a positive impact on my moods.. I would say I have generally felt noticeably better emotionally the whole time I've been on the jabs (7 months). I've seen a lot of other people say the same on these boards.

Mounjaro stopped my antidepressants working, changed twice now on Effexor. I was very unwell last year after just 3 doses with severe anxiety, panic attacks and depression.

Thank you both. @Catsservant did you stop the Mounjaro altogether or are you taking it with the Effexor?

@Gremlinsateit no I was on Paroxetine, switched to citalopram then venlafaxine. Would never touch any weight loss drug again.

I’m on duloxetine which is similar to venlafaxine and Mounjaro and I’ve noticed I’ve become snappier and definitely had mood swings. I never realised it could be the Mounjaro until reading this thread….

I asked this very question a few weeks ago on here. I find it absolutely does affect my antidepressants. My mood is pretty low and I have a very short fuse. I’m on WLI for the second time and there is a correlation.

I am on a low dose SSRI and haven't found any difference. However, one of the ways WLIs work is slowing gastric processing, so it's possible any oral drug would be a little impacted.

You are advised to use additional contraception than the Pill when you first go on MJ or change dose, but I believe it's not the case with wegovy as the mode of action is slightly different.

I'm on 75mg XR Venlafaxine and Mounjaro and I've had only 1 day of low mood in nearly 6 weeks so, personally, it doesn't really affect me adversely. I've been on Venlafaxine for a long time too - 26 years.

Gremlinsateit · 30/09/2026 22:35

Thank you everyone, that’s very helpful.
