Questions about Wegovy tablets, dosage, effectiveness and UK providers

I have a few questions about the Wegovy tablets as when I've done some research I'm reading contradictory things.

  1. Are they a daily tablet or weekly?
  2. Do you move up doses each month (if you need to) like the injections?
  3. I've read they're less effective that mounjouro jabs but are they still effective for suppression?
  4. Do they reduce food noise in the same way as the jabs?
  5. Where is the cheapest provider currently and how long is the process usually from first enquiries to them coming through the post?

Thank you

  1. Wegovy tablets are daily. You can see on the gov.uk link to the UK approval for this medication that the tablet is "once daily". https://www.gov.uk/government/news/first-glp-1-tablet-for-weight-loss-approved-in-the-uk
  2. Yes you move up each month as per the injections, if you need to. From the linked website, "The starting dose for the semaglutide tablet is 1.5 mg once daily, increasing to 4 mg, 9 mg and 25 mg with a minimum duration of one month at each dose level."
  3. Wegovy is less effective than Mounjaro, and the Wegovy tablets are slightly less effective than the Wegovy injections. They still work and will produce weight loss with appetite suppression as the main mechanism for that. For example the British Heart Foundation website gives a summary of the comparison between Wegovy injections and Mounjaro: https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/news/behind-the-headlines/mounjaro-vs-wegovy People on Mounjaro lost on average 20% of their starting weight, Wegovy it was 14%.
  4. Whether Wegovy tablets reduce "food noise" at all depends on how they work for you. It can take a few days or weeks, or even months for the effects to build and for you to start to notice it. Or it can be pretty much straight away. For a small percentage it never really works at all even on the highest dose. Some people have appetite suppression but not really any reduction in thinking about food. The only way to find out is to try.
  5. Check out the price comparison site for Wegovy tablets: https://ogovy.co.uk/wegovy-pill-discount-price-list/

ETA - current cheapest with a new customer discount on the ogovy site list is New Health. All the pharmacies listed there are GPhC registered and regulated. It can take around 2 days to a week to approve your prescription and get them sent out. You will need to upload evidence of your BMI, so photos or videos depending on the particular pharmacy. Once those are checked by a pharmacist or doctor, the medication is approved and sent out.
