I’m at my goal weight. What now?

Over the last 2.5 years I’ve lost over 7 stone - from 16 stone to 8 stone 11. I lost 2 stone calorie counting, stalled, then lost the rest on Mounjaro. Highest dose pen was 7.5mg
Since I reached my goal weight I moved down from 7.5 to 5mg which I’ve been on for the last few months. I’m maintaining- in fact lost another 5lbs on 5mg. I’ve just ordered a 2.5mg pen to go down to which worries me.

I have changed the way I live. I’ve knocked problematic drinking and snacking in the head, much smaller portions, lots of exercise. I SHOULD be able to maintain but it scares me.

I think my options are

  1. stay on 2.5 forever. Perhaps do it every 10 days?
  2. start taking a tablet instead
  3. stop all medication altogether.

Has anyone got any advice? I’m terrified of doing the wrong thing and upsetting all my hard work.

I have been maintaining on Mounjaro for 9 months now after ~9.5st loss over 19 months.

My top dose was only 3.75mg so not much to taper down, but I have slowly, weighing weekly. Over 9 months I’ve dropped 3 times and now down to 1.67mg weekly and I haven’t noticed any difference really. I am planning to move down to 1.25mg weekly so a 2.5mg pen lasts 8 weeks (my provider allows me to use my pens for 8 weeks) which will make it very affordable.

I don’t calorie count, but take 15 minutes out every week to log my weight/inject and if it has started trending upwards I think about the previous week and if I am allowing portion sizes to creep up, not getting enough protein, or snacking again etc That is has been enough to nip it in the bud.

I plan to stay on a low dose until at least after Christmas/January. Possibly another year, possibly forever. Some days I think my dose is so low now I cracked it and this is all placebo, then others I think Mounjaro is there doing its thing, it may be more subtle but still powerful.

I am watching how others are getting on with Foundayo, but not keen to change from something I know works for me, is affordable as a low dose, and the weekly injection routine is a good weekly personal check in that all is still ok.

Can I ask what provider you use that allows you to have the 2.5mg pen for 8 weeks?

Surely it doesn't matter with 2.5mg? You don't have to prove last dose if you're only ordering 2.5mg, only if you want to order the higher doses.

OP to answer your question you should stay on the lowest dose you can tolerate to maintain your weight probably for at least 12 months before coming off it if at all. 7 stone is a huge amount to keep off your body, it's not worth risking regaining it if you can avoid it.

Thats fine until you are under a certain BMI, then it can be an issue. The only reason people can order 2.5mg without evidence is because they fall into the qualifying criteria. If you have lost weight and no longer have the required BMI I would be a bit concerned you might not get a new prescription, continuous maintenance doses ensure you get your prescription.

Agree, the majority of pharmacies will refuse you as a new customer if your BMI is less than 27 and you don't have a weight related health condition, or less than 30 without any weight related conditions.

You'd want somewhere like Swift Doctor, Pharmulous, Oushk where you can be a "maintenance" customer and have longer breaks between ordering as they know your history.
