Stick with costly mounjaro or try cheaper wegovy?

I’m on mounjaro, been on for just over 3 months, lost a stone and a half.
Im half way through what I want to lose.
Mounjaro is 5mg, suppression is solid, no side effects, it’s actually fixed my IBs! managing to eat around 1200 a day but could easily eat 800/900 if I didn’t try.
My question is that mounjaro is only within budget for a year maybe, I can’t afford to do it forever, even lower dose, should I switch to we govy now because it’s affordable longer term, because if it works well then I’m sorted or shall I stay on mounjaro for as long as I can afford and work it out from then.

also I have to consider that I’m getting to the point where they might say I don’t officially qualify for injections anymore as I get closer to my target.
also worth mentioning I do go to the gym 3 times a week for a little cardio but mainly resistance training

I am on wygovy having moved from Mounjaro for the same reason. It took around 2 months to get up to the same level of dose but it's working just fine and am now back to losing 1lb a week. It is so much more affordable for the long term.

Mounjaro works on 2 receptors whereas wegovy only works on 1. All you can do is give it a try. I've only been on mounjaro so can't compare I'm afraid.

How long were you on mounjaro for before you switched? And how did your side effects compare?

I was on MJ (up to 10mg) and lost 30kg but the the price hikes meant I could no longer afford it so I switched to Wegovy. That was a horrible mistake as I felt so ill on Wegovy that I had to stop. Somehow I managed to put 5kg back on during that time and have never managed to shift it. ☹️ I’m now on MJ 5mg as maintenance as that’s the highest dose I can afford (if it was cheaper I’d go up to a higher dose to get rid of that damn 5kg) and am remaining stable at my current weight. Ideally I want to lose 10kg more but a combination of menopause and a chronic health condition (which means my exercise is very restricted) plus the high MJ prices mean I am stuck at my current weight for the moment.

I lost 55lb on mounjaro and switched to wegovy for maintenance. After 3 months I switched back and find the money as I found wegovy did nothing for me and do was a waste of money.

I’ve only been on MJ since I started 2 years ago but have watched the wegovy threads because I was curious to know if people found it as effective as MJ. From the threads I saw around the time from where many people made the switch last summer after the price hikes, there were a large amount of posters who eventually came back to MJ.
Could be so many factors, it’s just too individual to know whether or not you’d do well on it - the only way to really find out would be to give it a go for a few months. But then if you’ve got a limited time you can pay for WLI and you don’t get on with WG it’s money wasted. Of course if you’ve do well with it then you could potentially be on it longer than a year. How much cheaper is WG than MJ for eg the highest dose?

It is also worth checking you are getting Mounjaro at the best price before you switch.

I was on mounjaro til September last year then it got too expensive. I lost 5 stone on it. I ended up being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease around the same time as stopping mounjaro and was on steroids for months so I gained a couple of stone back so decided to go onto wegovy in April. To be honest it's like I'm injecting myself with water, no effect at all. I've just ordered 7.2mg so will see if that does anything if not I'm going to see if I can switch back to mounjaro and just work an extra shift a month to afford it. I do know people it's work very well for though, I just miss not having the food noise.

In your shoes, as it’s working really well fir you, I’d stay on MJ until I’d reached goal weight then consider titrating down and swapping over to the pills, either Wegovy or Foundayo for maintenance.
