Wegovy injections - new starter questions

I’ve just ordered my first Wegovy and trying to work out how to manage a few things, can anyone help?

Eating out - we have a meal booked at a very fancy restaurant in a few weeks which was a birthday gift, I really want to enjoy it. Can you skip a weeks dose to do that? The menu is small so it will be difficult to try and work around it. If you can’t skip a week I might just wait til after it to start

Day to day - do I need to calorie count or will that happen naturally as appetite is reduced?

Do I need to take any multivitamins or supplements to make up for the food I’m not eating?

I'm on Mounjaro but the answers to your questions will be essentially the same.

You can skip a week's injection. However this does not mean that the medication leaves your system, as each week the levels build up. Only half the medication is gone by the time you do the next injection. So after a few weeks into the process, the amount in your system is a combination of that building up process. When you skip a week's injection, the amount in your system will fall further than before, but it won't be at zero. However, you may find that eating a fancy meal is fine, especially if the portions are small. You will still likely enjoy what you are eating and you don't have to finish everything that you are served. WLI whether Wegovy or Mounjaro don't (generally) make you miserable around food and not enjoy eating. They reduce your appetite and make you feel fuller quicker and for longer.

You can calorie count if you want to. Many people do. There are lots of ways of eating a reduced calorie diet that don't involve actually weighing and measuring everything. If you get a lot of appetite suppression then you may find you don't need to as you will naturally eat smaller portions and avoid snacking. Calorie tracking for a while doesn't mean you have to do it forever either.

If you are eating less than you normally do then a multi vitamin is a easy back up plan. However you should not be eating so little as to be unable to eat a varied balanced diet. If you find that you are not even managing 800 cals or so, then your dose is likely too high and you should stay on the same dose or move down if that's applicable. These medications are not intended to stop you eating at all or force you to eat very low calories.

There is not much to add, the first response is very comprehensive.

on calorie counting. I do this for two reasons. To make sure that I am in a calorie deficit, you may eat less but you could be eating less of high calorie foods and not be in a deficit. But also to make sure I am eating enough calories and protein. If eating less of lower calorie foods you may not get enough, this would make you lose weight too quickly with the various additional problems that could come with that. Doing this I have been losing a steady 2lb a week with no negative effects.

I’ve been on Wegovy for 3.5 years and lost 12+ stone, now I’m maintaining.

You may not need to change your weekly dosage, just see how you react to the Wegovy. For me, I’d have no problem eating a large meal out and enjoying it. I always eat 3 large meals daily. The jab doesn’t suppress my ability to eat, it just stops me thinking about food every second of the day and craving it constantly, it silences the food noise in my head that drove me to distraction, so I’m able to be rational and choose healthy foods easily.

I use the WW app (NOT the GLP-1 programme but their standard tracking). It counts WW points, calories and all my macros to ensure I’m within healthy limits. It also adds extra points from my Fitbit as I’m very active.

I don’t need extra supplements as I eat a varied & balanced diet. If the WLI suppresses your appetite to the point that you are not eating a healthy diet then you will need to supplement.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for your responses! Had the first jab yesterday and definitely noticed less craving/food noise already!
