  1. priming the pen etc, I need to read the instructions again at length but a quick scan online and it all seemed a bit clicky and complicated. Is it?

  2. if eating a higher fat meal eg out with family are you less likely to have side effects if it’s day 6 or 7?

  3. if I eat even a small amount of fish and chips will I suffer misery?

  4. doors anybody still drink sparkling water? I really enjoy it and bit worried I will suffer misery

  5. is there an impact on periods?

  6. wtf is collagen and do I really need it?

  7. wtf are ‘gummies’

  8. best constipation tips?

i would need to halve my body weight to be in healthy BMI and not aiming for that. 20% would make me the lightest I’ve been for 25 years. 10% would take me back 15 years so just that would be nice.

thank you for your attention

See it’s the you can’t eat that attitude that has contributed to my weight over the last thirty years. Who wants to live like that? Completely agree with @RenegadeKeeblerElfDemonising food fuels guilt. It’s really interesting that the response from some to the questions I asked is to lean in to what I can only describe as telling me off. I am more motivated to lose weight today than ever before so will just see how it goes.
Good news - I survived my first jab. Though after sitting on the bathroom floor for a tense 20 mins or so reading the instructions my jabbed leg instantly developed pins and needles when I stood up! Briefly thought asaaargh I’ve ruptured my spleen, developed compartment syndrome and leprosy with a side order of malaria until common sense returned along with the circulation 😀

Yeah ok you maybe have some food related mental health issues that you need to resolve to be honest, this isn’t a balanced or healthy reaction .

questionsaboutthejabs · Yesterday 13:54

Of course I do! I’m twice the weight I should be. However I have retained my sense of humour and am not mindlessly unkind to complete strangers asking questions. So it’s not all bad. Hiding the thread now.

@questionsaboutthejabs come and join us on the 10st or more to lose thread, or the 5st or more to lose thread. There’s also an August starters thread somewhere, or probably a Sept starters one soon too if it hasn’t been started already. The long running threads are supportive usually compared to other threads.

GiveMeWordGames · Yesterday 14:04

@questionsaboutthejabs I second what @SilenceInside says. Ignore the rude pp and their cod psychology and join your month thread and either of the long running ones mentioned. We're very supportive on those. No snark.

Been using for just over 2 yrs, lost about 4 stone, slower than most but I’m happy with slow and steady.

  1. i don’t bother priming
  2. yes, j inject on Tuesdays so by the weekend can enjoy meals out more
  3. no, j don’t, but might just not fancy greasy food
  4. spsrklign water/fizzy drinks fine for me
  5. not noticed any impact on my periods
  6. never taken collagen or gummies
  7. have had to watch constipation and when it’s got bad have needed some sachets of movicol
MoneyJo · Yesterday 14:36

Yes definitely get on the supportive threads. I'm on the one for the month I started and also the 5 stone and more one. I've dipped into the 10 stone one but I don't have that much to go.

Good luck! Everyone seems to react differently, so take it slowly at first and see how your body responds. Definitely read the pen instructions carefully before your first dose.

anon2022anon · Yesterday 15:03

Just to put another voice out there- if I want fish and chips, I would have fish and chips. Yes, I would buy an OAP version but I'd still eat it.
It doesn't make me ill, it doesn't give me heartburn. I've literally eaten all the types of food on this, almost all without ill effects.
In the past year, food has made me sick 3 times- and they've been after 'experience' meals, generally 2-3 courses and rich, with a few drinks too, cocktails or similar.
I eat a meal a little smaller than I did before every evening, but still out family meal, and I'll have something sweet every day, I haven't lost the urge for that.

One thing I have noticed is I get drunk quicker, and I'm quite easily sick at the end of a night out. I like a cider, and I just feel 'full' even hours after drinking.

There aren't rules around how you eat on this, do what works for you.

I am poised and about to dip my toe into the Mounjaro pool - wish me luck ! ...but when I collected first dose yday I was alarmed to see it has come with a single use syringe, not a click pen (am not in UK) I have never self administered a jab of any description. Has anyone used a proper sharp ? I can go to a local pharmacist and he can administer and safely dispose of sharp, which is a relief. But..... will ask the doctor why I can't have a pen, it just may not be as readily available here.....😕

Woah! That sounds dodgy as licensed Mounjaro only comes in the Kwikpen version. (My friend works at the plant in Ireland that makes it.)

Can you post a photo of what you’ve been given?

edited: I’ve just looked online and it appears that some countries sell it in a vial for dosing with a syringe. Sorry, I didn’t know that. 😳

SilenceInside · Yesterday 16:27

@Aintgointogoa which country are you in? Most countries would use either a single dose self injecting pen, or the multi-use pen as in the UK. Did the doctor not explain how to inject and how to dispose of the sharps? In the UK you can buy a sharps bin from online pharmacies or from Amazon.

Do you mean you've got a vial of MJ and a syringe to extract the meds from it, or just a single use plunger pen where you need to attach a needle?

what country are you in? That doesn’t sound right at all.

Aintgointogoa · Yesterday 16:42

Going to post pics, but they will need to clear. Thanks for responses so far ! My doctor is qualified to prescribe Mounjaro (endocrinologist) and the source is a very reputable fárma company. I do go to him privately as going through the 'system' takes so much longer. I am in Latin America...Colombia actually.
My city may not be as sophisticated as the bigger ones not that that should make a diff 🤷‍♀️ It is very common to go to the local pharmacy for jabs, like the vaccine etc. Taking pics now.

Aintgointogoa · Yesterday 16:49

Here’s my little junkie kit 😉 And I have an ice block thingy for when I go to pharmacy. I have asked my doctor about the pen but I know he is super busy on a shift at the mo.

SilenceInside · Yesterday 16:51

Eli Lilly hold worldwide patents on Mounjaro, so they are the only company able to supply anything that is labelled Mounjaro currently.

GiveMeWordGames · Yesterday 16:53

Well, I guess that does look legit in terms of branding but honestly who knows these days. I would definitely ask why no Kwikpen.

BTW lots of people in the UK have happily been using syringes like that one to extract and inject the bonus dose, while there still is one.

SilenceInside · Yesterday 16:54

@Aintgointogoa I think in some countries Lilly do supply vials like that. I am surprised that your doctor didn’t explain how to inject. Is there an instruction leaflet in the box?

Aintgointogoa · Yesterday 16:55

Thanks @SilenceInside. Yes I am sure it's all kosher, I was just a bit taken aback. Would much prefer a pen obvs ! I am not scared of needles or anything, it's just the thought of wielding one esp on myself 🥹 And I am nervous about this new gig anyway ! so will no doubt be turning up on the support threads x

I just did a quick google and their AI suggests that the single dose vials are the norm in Colombia.

Aintgointogoa · Yesterday 16:59

@SilenceInside yes there are instructions which I will take to matey boy down the road, but my doc said he would do the first one. However he is on an extra shift today as hospital is super busy (aftermath of quake) 🥺
@GiveMeWordGames i imagine this is how insulin was injected from the get go, yes....my niece now has a pen type thing and it has made her life so much easier (type 1)

Aintgointogoa · Yesterday 17:00

@GiveMeWordGames oh right ! Thanks ! Hadn't occurred to me to do that !

SilenceInside · Yesterday 17:01

You can scan the barcode on the package and it should link to the Lilly website and tell you if the lot number is legitimate.

Hopefully there is a leaflet with instructions in the box. You need to know where on your body to inject, and how to draw out the medication, prime it, and inject. I have done this many times, using the multi use UK pen as if it were a vial, but I was already familiar with self injecting using the pens.

Katalica · Yesterday 17:09

I use a syringe like that to take the ‘golden dose’ from the old style pens. It’s actually much easier than using the kwikpen, in many respects. You don’t need to prime it for starters.

Sounds good that you’re getting your doctor to do the first injection and you can always watch a few YouTube videos before doing it yourself.

Best of luck with it all and maybe consider joining the new September MJ Starters thread to get support from fellow newbies along the way. I assume one will be created shortly. 😁
