I’m about to start on Wegovy 0.25 starter pen. I only have a stone to lose, my BMI was not far off healthy but I’m post menopause and finding it impossible to keep weight off despite best efforts.

what can I do to minimise side effects? I dread feeling horribly nauseous all the time

I've read so many threads asking the same question and seen that, like me, very few people have bad side effects. I certainly haven't felt nauseous all the time, or in fact any of the time.

I think the key is not to up the dose too much too fast, and if you do end up feeling nauseous you can drop down and microdose.

Thanks - did you feel nauseous to start with?

As the pp said, many people don't have side effects. There are some people who will and it's just genetic, ie unlucky and no way of knowing who that will be, so it's best to start when you've got a day or two free just in case. But it is a minority of people.
Eating well in the days leading up to taking it, ie plenty of fibre and avoiding very high fat foods or lots of carbs is generally a good idea. I don't mean you need to eat keto or anything, just that it's not advisable to have a 'blow out' as a last hurrah before starting, as that would likely mean some digestive issues.

I didn't have any side effects at all on 0.25. Since upping my dose I have minor side effects of constipation or gastro issues if I eat a high fat meal, but to be honest I could be prone to both those things before taking wegovy if I didn't eat well, it's just something I've had to be more aware of. It's entirely manageable by eating a sensible diet. I've never had any nausea. Feel a bit tired/headachy a day or so after jabbing, but it's hard to say if that's the jab itself or because I'm eating less!

If you’re really worried about feeling nauseous, take your jab before bed and keep some ginger biscuits by your bed just in case.

You most likely won’t need them. You will simply wake up and notice the lack of food noise.

No. The only one time I felt nauseous was when I prepped a usual lunch and half way through suddenly realised I had had a bite too much and the thought of eating any more made me feel sick.

Ok, great. Thanks. I'll do it tonight and see what happens.

Hiya - took it last night - no issues at all. In fact, I don’t feel any different. Is it meant to take a while?

I’m on Mounjaro and so is my dh. We’ve been on it for a year and zero side effects. Good luck. It’s been the best thing we ever did.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 23/08/2026 18:33

Just saw your last post. With me and dh the effects were immediate. We both were able to massively cut down on our food portions with ease and cravings stopped.

That’s great - so pleased. I am on a tiny starter dose and don’t have much to lose. May I ask if you were in a different position?

I was 12 9 and dh was 19 13 😵‍💫. We both started on 2.5 which is the lowest dose of Mounjaro and although we went up to 5mg we felt the same so came back down to 2.5mg and have stayed on that. He is now 12 5 and I am 8 6. It’s been fantastic. We didn’t change what we ate either. Just ate less and cut out nibbling/snacks.

Proteinpudding · 23/08/2026 20:35

@Flowydress from what I've learned reading these forums, mounjaro tends to have a very noticeable effect for most people - it slows down stomach emptying a lot, to the extent that many people say they feel uncomfortably full after a few bites of food.
Wegovy doesn't tend to have as drastic an effect, if it works for you it tends to mean you feel less interested in high fat/high sugar foods, and satisfied on smaller portions, but it's more subtle. Some people feel a difference on the starter dose but not everyone does. It builds up in your system over time so if you don't notice anything yet, you might in a week or two.

I track my calories on an app, and I found often even though I didn't think wegovy was having an effect, and I felt like I'd been making poor choices (eg biscuits at the office!) overall my calories were lower, because there were times that say, I wasn't eating breakfast or snacking between meals and I hadn't noticed because I hadn't felt deprived or hungry.
