Wegovy pills and rheumatoid arthritis (or other inflammatory disease)

I’m about to start wegovy pills. Yes, I need to lose 2 stone but the other main reason is to try and help manage my RA. I know GLP-1s are not prescribed for RA but there is now quite a bit of research that shows positive outcomes for inflammation.
I guess I’ll have to see how it goes but wondering if anyone with an inflammatory disease has seen good results with weight loss medication?

I have RA. I was on Wegovy injections for weight loss for around 9months last year and lost about 10kg. My joint pain was so much better but I had not great side effects (fatigue and constant nausea and gastro side effects). Honestly I thought the pain relief was a side effect of the weight loss not the jab.

i went off Wegovy a few months ago - I got shingles and was so fatigued with that I could not face the injections. About 6 weeks later - joint pain back and I think worse than before. Weight has not gone up since stopping.

I went to my dr and rheum and have now started Mounjaro to see if I get the inflammation benefits without the side effects. Still too early to tell ( no side effects however but I am still sore! I am on a very low dose atm and have just started a week ago).

So - to answer your question - yes Wegovy did help - a lot. I actually didn’t realise how much until I stopped taking it. If Mounjaro doesn’t do the same I will try Wegovy again ( in Australia so no pills here yet).

I don’t have a diagnosed autoimmune disease but I’ve had intermittent very high ANA antibodies and have endometriosis, rosacea and psoriasis, so an element of inflammation.

On the lowest dose, after 5 weeks my rosacea has subsided significantly & my psoriasis on my legs is fading. I assume it’s doing good things on the inside as well.

I haven’t lost a lot of weight as I had a lower starting BMI and I already ate very healthily (just too much) so it’s not like I was mainlining UPFs previously.

It helps my heart issues. Cardiologist was pleased I was taking it (micro dosing as I’m not over bmi 25) as it’s being researched at the moment and looking positive

I'll be very interested in any updates OP. I've been hanging back taking WLI despite being very overweight as I was scared of it impacting either of my AI conditions. It's great to read (other threads) that some people improve their conditions on it.

It’s so interesting isn’t it? There are lots of studies that are showing very positive results.

I’ve just had a bad flare up due to an infection so it will be interesting to see.

I’ve got MS. Although I’ve lost 3 stone and that feels great, it’s made no difference to my MS at all.

I was on saxenda (daily weight loss injections) for a year and it helped sooo much with my Crohn’s disease. I never felt healthier!
I then stupidly decided to move to ozempic as was sick of injecting daily, really messed me up with constipation etc, ended up in a&e with impactation, developed a fistula & came off wli, straight into crohns flare.
so for me I wouldn’t take the weekly injections again as messed so much with my bowel, but I’ve just started back on saxenda.
i guess the wegovy pill is similar to saxenda cas it’s daily?

Interested to see if it helps with the inflammation that I suspect is from my hypothyroidism. I’m starting the Wegovy pill soon, my first order arrives tomorrow 🤞🏻
