I’ve been on 15mg of Mounjaro for months. I haven’t lost anything in ages, as I’m consuming too many calories. I’ve been eating to maintain - not a conscious choice, really - even though I’d like to lose another 1.5 stone. Mounjaro helps with the food noise but the appetite suppression could be better. I could eat a 3 course meal easily.
I have lost 6 stone so far, and it has taken me around 16 months to do it. Obviously I’m delighted, but also scared of putting the weight back on.
I just don’t know where to go from here. The pens are so expensive and up until now, I’ve been able to use the golden dose each month. That’ll be out the window now that the pens have changed. I’m in a rut and I don’t think I’d be able to go back to recording everything I eat on MFP.
I need to shake things up. Would it be worth my while trying the new Wegovy pill? I can eat so much on Mounjaro that I’m not sure a change would hurt. And it would certainly be better for my bank balance.
What would happen if I were to change? Is the Wegovy pen or pill more effective? Would I start on the lowest dose? And is there a Monj equivalent website for costings?
Thanks so much.

The Wegovy pen is more effective than the pill but not by much. Prices for the pills can be found on https://ogovy.co.uk/ and the Wegovy injection at https://igovy.co.uk/

if you swapped to the Wegovy injection then most providers wouldn’t make you start on the lowest dose, they usually have an equivalent dose they’d suggest. I don’t know about the tablets as they haven’t been around for long and I’m not sure many people are actually swapping from Mounjaro to Wegovy tablets.

I know that a couple of people on the 10st plus to lose thread have had a total break for a month or longer and then started again on 2.5mg of Mounjaro. That’s people who have been on 15mg with long plateaus or even gaining weight. You could also try injecting every 6 days, but that’s going to be more expensive.

Any of your options might be enough to feel different and reset the process.

madeinthe80z · 31/07/2026 19:37

Yep, agree with @SilenceInsidetheres a few options but I would definitely consider a ‘metabolism reset’ look it up as there are a few ways to do it and good ways and bad ways to approach it!

Thanks both.

You’ve done fantastically well losing so much weight in such a short time, well done. I think you should take a break from WLI for a month or two, then try Wegovy injections, not tablets. I’m using Wegovy and finding it very effective at appetite suppression.

Why are you eating too much? If the food noise isn’t there you have half the battle won. If I were you I would just follow the same path I did when MJ was fully working, I think it’s far easier to stick to a routine of healthy eating when you have no food noise. I only take 5mg because that’s the balance for me between the noise being off and being able to eat properly. I actually really disliked the strong suppression I felt in the early weeks.

I think it’s mindset I’m sorry, you can’t rely so heavily on the medication, to do the heavy lifting for you, you need to use will power as well

we can all push through and eat more unless on too high a dose. You need to chose not to, the drugs are there to help you.

the fact you’ve went up to 15 mg says potentially you’ve been relying on the meds, but they are working as you’re eating to maintenance, and you know you are.

so I’m not sure taking a less effective and lower dose med will help, I think it’s just mindset, you need to want to do it.

don’t get me wrong, I know how hard it is, even on the meds it’s a constant battle for many, and you’ve done really well, but I think this is mindset not meds.

Eat lots of protein and veg and stop with snack stuff. That will keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Drink before you eat, most of "I'm hungry" is "I'm thirsty"

And drop your calories, you need less as you get older.

You cant take injections but carry on as you are so to speak.

I've lost 9 stone, most by eating high protein, low calorie and the last 2 stone on mounjaro or waygovy.

Well done so far 👏

I was in an almost identical position and what helped me was a 5 week rest and then restart at the 7.5mg.

I choose 5 weeks specifically because it was just over the 30 days it takes for mounjaro to clear from your body.

MJ is now effective enough to help me again.

My provider (Curely) was fine with this given how long I had been on MJ overall and how long at 15mg.

I had also never had any side effects at all and although the medication helps me by stopping my default insatiable hunger I have never had the extreme suppression some people say they have.

In an ideal world I would loose another stone but it is more about maintenance and the relief of not feeling that horrible constant hunger which had ruled my life for so long.

I plan to move up the doses again as needed (currently moved up to 10mg) until I get to 15mg and then when I feel the effect wearing off I will stop and restart again.

Zempy · 01/08/2026 08:30

I would tackle your eating. Stop buying snack food and drink loads more water.

MinnieCoops · 01/08/2026 08:46

Wegovy isn’t half as good for me as MJ was. I think I would give it a go if I were you on a nothing to lose basis but I’d expect to be swapping back to MJ after a couple of months hoping the break might help

I restarted after 2 month break (4st loss in 7 months and stopped at 12.5 due to life circumstances). Restarted at 2.5 with a very difficult road with Minimal effect lost 4kg 2.5-10 stalled completely on 12.5 and luckily 15mg is so far working (on my 4th week and have lost 2.5 kg in last 4 weeks) . My personal plan when 15 stops working is to split dose 10/5 (Friday and Monday) and then start to go down doses no matter if I’m at goal or not , it’s way to expensive to not be working (and the Bs of adjust kcalories up water etc if the side effect of weight loss is not there why use it) . I will not stop cold turkey this time for sure , I have 1-1.5st left (currently at 4.5st loss )

schopenhauer · 01/08/2026 11:14

Could you try to build muscle to boost metabolism?
Increase steps significantly?
Increase protein intake?.
what are you actually eating?
I do think a break and reset might really help,

magicstar1 · 01/08/2026 11:20

Where do you inject? I was plateauing for a few months on 12.5. Food noise was back and I was hungry a lot. I was injecting into my stomach and saw a recommendation to change injection site. I tried it at the top of my thigh and everything clicked back on again. I’m down a stone since then and it’s still working.
