Hi, couldn't see a thread for August so thought I'd start. I'm totally new to WLI but my first pen has arrived today so guess I won't be new to it for long! I'm just back from holiday and weighing in at 12st 8 which is the heaviest I have ever been. I'm early 40s and have tried so many diets over the years including slimming world which saw me get below 10st but the weight has crept back on over the last few years and I just don't seem to have the mental capacity with a busy family and stressful to job to be able to do it alone. My weight really affects my mental health and I feel so unhappy when I look in the mirror or try to squeeze into clothes that previously fit so that's it really. First jab will be tonight! Any hints or tips greatly received and feel free to join me if anyone else is starting in August!

I just took my first dose….

I am 62, morbidly obese most of my adult life, serial weight loser and regainer etc, maximum BMI was 48.5 a good few years ago. At the start of 2024 it was 41.5, and since then I have done a LOT of work on the psychological /emotional stuff, while gradually moving towards a low carb intermittent fasting eating style, virtually no snacking, very little sugar or UPF’s. BMI got to just under 30 in May 2025, and while I’ve been up and down a bit, it has been there or thereabouts ever since. I’ve had type 2 diabetes for 28 years.

So….. while I’m delighted with the improvement in my quality of life and how well I feel, I am also fed up of not making any more progress. My HbA1C is now 45 without meds, having been over 70 on 2 meds. But I believe better is possible, and the key to that, is further weight loss. So, here I am. Aiming to get my BMI to 24 or so, and then hopefully taper off and eventually stop the MJ. Hoping that my new eating style and habits will prevent regain. But of course you never know until you try.

One of the meds I was on for 5 years is Trulicity, which is another GLP-1 specifically for type 2 diabetes. I didn’t have any side effects when I started that, other than a reduced appetite (which didn’t last) so I’m hoping the same is true with MJ. As we head of for a 4-day break in London tomorrow!

Can I ask those of you who have started, what did you feel after you first dose, and how soon? In terms of appetite suppression, lack of food noise, any unpleasant side effects etc.

I started to feel less hungry within 3 days. This is my second week and I'm struggling to eat full meals. I can manage 2 wholemeal toast but anything else, I eat a quarter of. Today's the first full day I've had not feeling too hungry in-between meals. No side effects. Good luck x

Oops! I just realised this thread is for WeGovy, and I’m on Mounjaro. My apologies, all.

I took my first injection yesterday - 17 August. I'm absolutely knackered today. Hoping this passes soon. No other side effects.

Bought it a few weeks ago but wanted to hold off starting until I was home for the week just in case I felt rubbish.

Bmi 30. Age 50. Been exercising regularly for a few years but keeping the weight off has been a battle that I've not been winning due to food.

@practicepracticepracticewelcome! You have the same starting BMI as me, mine is now 28 point something after only a couple of weeks which I'm pleased with. Having some bloating and cramps this week, could also be due to time of the month but nothing too bad to report so far. Hope you have a good first week.

I've been getting tired on my jabs too. Take my 3rd one tomorrow. Up and down with hunger pangs. Only one day of side effects but I took anti nausea tablet which sorted it. Looking forward to seeing results after another week. I have never been on such a high fibre and protein regime.
