10mg Pen - No golden dose

Just received my new 10mg MJ pen from Cloud Pharmacy (counting clicks for 7.5mg dose). It’s the bottom one in the photo…

It’s a new style pen with no golden dose!! 😭

Sharing here for awareness. I would have ordered 12.5mg if I’d known they’d introduced new style pens for 10mg!!

how can you tell? They look the same.

hotmumshit · 28/07/2026 21:16

Got my 12.5mg - no golden dose

SilenceInside · 28/07/2026 21:17

Lots of the 12.5mg are also new style. There’s a Reddit thread Mounjaro uk where people list which pharmacies are doing new pens at which dose.

SilenceInside · 28/07/2026 21:18

The new style pens have a second serial number on the pen and the box. They also have a black spacer behind the grey plunger that the old pens didn’t have.

The bottom one is new and has a big black plunger that the old style (top pen) doesn’t have.

My last 15mg from Medicine Marketplace also new style. Sadly seems random and increasingly likely now

morbidcuriosity · 28/07/2026 23:57

I think 10mg is the last to roll out. . I had delivery today pharmalous old style 10mg. Dated 4/27 . Think this will be the last one though..

BeautifulViolets · 29/07/2026 07:08

All pens are now the new style except for 2.5mg currently

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 29/07/2026 07:16

It’s why I be moved on to buying retatrutide online. Not paying crazy mj prices for a 4 week pen.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 29/07/2026 07:18

I had my 5mg pen from MedExpress and no golden dose but it’s not too bad for me as although I buy a 5mg pen I’m only dosing 2.5mg so I get 8 doses😊

eeyoredebbie · 29/07/2026 07:33

I’ve just ordered 7.5 from MMP my last four have all had golden dose so this next one will be interesting. I think you can also tell by the expiry if it’s after April 27 it’s probably a new style pen

JabbaJibba · 29/07/2026 08:09

Yes, I ordered a 10 last week from Lotus and got a new one. They're one of the pharmacies working with Elil-illy on distribution so was inevitable, wish I'd known that before I'd ordered as could have got an old ten from someone else. I'd looked at posts on here and at the time new 10 pens hadn't been mentioned but had on reddit, apparently . Anyway, is what it is.

PearlsTeapot · 29/07/2026 16:57

My 10 pen from medicine marketplace was a new pen yesterday too :(

HRHCurmudgeon · 29/07/2026 17:18

Idiot question incoming…. I’m on MI and have just moved to 5mg after 3 months on 2.5mg. What is a ‘golden dose’?

SilenceInside · 29/07/2026 17:50

@HRHCurmudgeon a twee name for the leftover medication in the original style pens after you have done the planned four doses. The pen mechanism locks after 4 normal doses and you can’t use that leftover medication unless you break the pen mechanism or use external syringes to extract it. People realised that the pens had at least another whole dose left and given it’s so expensive you can see that people wanted to find ways to use it.

The new style pen has less leftover medication, not even enough for a half dose.

HRHCurmudgeon · 29/07/2026 17:56

@SilenceInside thank you. Definitely can see there’s medicine left in the pens. Dare I ask how people have at it?!

ETA - I didn’t realise the pens ‘locked’ - I’ve never tried to access the leftovers!

SilenceInside · 29/07/2026 18:02

I think people probably originally mistook the remaining medication for another normal dose and tried to use the pen as normal, then realised it wouldn’t turn to the 1 position. At that point you can force the twisting action, some people are strong enough to do it by hand others may need pliers, and the internal locking point breaks. Then you can turn to the 1 position and inject the medication. Sometimes though when you force the pen, the whole internal mechanism breaks and the pen will no longer dispense. Then, you can use 1ml insulin syringes to pierce the red seal where you normally attach the pen needle, and extract the medication that way.

Hopefully you use all the doses within the 4 weeks after the first use as recommended by the manufacturer??

VivIsBlonde · 29/07/2026 18:05

5 & 7.5 no longer has the golden dose!
I’ve heard a fair few people say they’ve moved to the WG tablets and they are having better results than what they have been having on the MJ jabs

SilenceInside · 29/07/2026 18:10

@VivIsBlonde the new style pens have been rolling out since April, and whether you get an old style or new style pen depends on what stock pharmacies have. As time goes on eventually all the old stock will have been used up. I don’t think you can say for definite that every single old style 5 and 7:5mg pen has been dispensed.

Wegovy tablets are less effective than Wegovy injections and both are less effective than Mounjaro. Of course for some individuals that may be different for their individual response to the medication but no one’s going to suggest in seriousness that Wegovy tablets will produce a better outcome than Mounjaro.

Lots of people are micro dosing from pens and using them for weeks after the 4 recommended. Personal choice. It’s working for me

Many people use the pens for longer than 30 days quite safely and successfully.

For the information of those wanting to know - 10mg pen from oushk arrived today and it's the new style.

I got given 8 needles with my new 5mg pen that arrived yesterday so I assume they know a lot of people use them like that ( I'm planning on staying on 2.5mg) but realised the price when buying a 5mg pen and using for 8 doses was about half of buying 2 x 2.5mg pens!

hallie8936 · 29/07/2026 18:53

I’ve only just finished a pen I opened in March 🤣 I’ve just assumed it’s like other medicine in that it’s more to do with efficacy than anything like mould. I swab the pen when I syringe.

Wow! I wouldn’t trust not to get some debris from the break etc in the liquid. Fair play to those brave enough 🫡
