How to eat chia?

I am so constipated and live on movicol to keep things moving. I keep seeing people say to eat chia seeds, but how do you prepare them? I tried just adding them straight to my morning yogurt but that made me even more constipated that week. Should I be soaking them?

I put them in a yoghurt at night then have it in the morning. You can’t eat them ‘raw’ as seeds. They need to have absorbed liquid before eating them.

I stick them in my yogurt or cottage cheese for lunch and let them sit for 15 mins before I eat it all up.

Soak them in a cup of hazelnut milk over night, add a teaspoon of chocolate spread on top in the morning.

Add Inulin to your morning beverage for a fibre boost..

You need to leave them for at least 20 minutes to soak. I normally mix Greek yoghurt, frozen fruit and chia in a tub and by the time the fruit defrosted it’s ready. It fixes any digestive issues I have, combine with a kiwi and a coffee for maximum effect.

I add them to frozen raspberries over night, they turn it into jam and I have that with yoghurt.

I have chia pudding for breakfast some days. Chia seeds, oat milk and maple syrup, leave in fridge overnight and serve with fruit and nuts.

I also add them to porridge before cooking and soak them for adding to smoothies.

If you don't want to wait to soak them then you can grind them in a coffee grinder and stir them straight into whatever you are having. Just drink plenty too, you still need lots of liquid for them to work.

Put a cm or 2 deep of chia seeds in the bottom of a mug and half fill with water and leave overnight in the fridge. They will be all goopy in the morning like frogspawn

Load it up in porridge, great high fibre meal. I also find magnesium glycinate (right spelling?) works a treat too.

I find psyllium husk much better tbh and only needs ten mins to soak

but chia I have as above - with oats or on their own with maple syrup and milk

I find ground flaxseed better it’s tasteless so I just stir it into things and it doesn’t need soaking etc

If you really want to get things moving stir chia seeds in stewed apple (leave the skin on). The interaction between different fibre types means the motility effects are at MAX

Put them in water and add a bit of lemon juice. This was trending a while back on SM as an ‘internal shower’.

Tried it once and once only. Went through me in 10 minutes.

Wow never knew people soaked them. I put them straight on yoghurt or porridge, same for my toddler. Also I made chia jam with frozen berries.

@Peonies12you shouldn’t use chia seeds without soaking. It will say that on the packet.

@ApricotRow I have two kinds of chia seeds in my cupboard, neither type says to soak, one is even in a sprinkler jar where the label says to sprinkle onto yoghurt, museli etc. The only warning is not to have more than 15g a day.

In overnight oats for example: add them to the oats, fruit, other seeds or whatever you like. Then add kefir and milk so it's runny. By the morning the texture will be far less runny. I love overnight oats! I admit I do also add sugar or maple syrup.

I'm aiming for 30g fibre a day on the Nutra Check diet. It's hard to achieve that! Chia seeds are good though, very high in fibre.

I sprinkle them on my Greek yoghurt and fruit every morning, stir and eat. I have done for 14 months now. Apparently they are fine to eat dry if you are eating them with something liquid. The only downside is occasionally one or two stick in my teeth!
I can’t bear the snotty texture of them soaked.
For what it’s worth they don’t have much of the magic affects people talk about on me. But nor does MJ!
