Planning doses/pens around travel.

Advice please! I’ve just been looking at what date to order my next pen as we go on holiday 27th June to 7th July.
I take my doses on Sunday evenings, which would mean two doses while I’m away. The golden dose of my current pen would be on the 28th, which is fine. But I’m not sure about taking a new pen away in case there’s no fridge etc.
What is the true shelf life once opened, both in and out of the fridge?
Could I order a new pen a bit earlier and start that while at home, while leaving two doses in my current pen to take away with me? Or am I just overthinking this?! 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

I would order early and take just the doses you need. It is fine as long as it isn’t about 30 degrees so a fridge wouldn’t be needed unless you were somewhere hot without aircon

The shelf life once opened is 30 days, regardless of whether in the fridge or not. As long as it kept between 2 and 30 degrees. The paper leaflet that comes with each pen will confirm this.

You could take the fifth dose from your pen a day early on the morning of the day that you travel, and then just take the new pen with you. Once at room temperature (above 8 degrees) for a period of time, the 30 day usage guideline will also apply regardless of whether you've used the pen. That might mean that the fifth dose from that pen is a few days beyond the 30 days guideline, but there is at least one pharmacy (irritatingly I can't remember which one) who allow this extended timeline to 35 days I think, as they have had independent testing done on keeping the pen open for that length of time. So for me personally I would be not too worried about using the pen up to 35 days.

I thought about decanting to a syringe. Or taking old pen. I wouldn’t travel with a new pen as I’d be worried about it being out of fridge too long. Personally I’d take a dose of the new pen before I left and leave in fridge and take the old pen for the golden dose whilst away and bin it when done.

I’m travelling 28th August to 7th September.

i’m due to inject on the Sunday so, like you, two doses due while I’m away.

I’m going to leave it, because I don’t want to risk the side effects while away, and inject on the Monday when I get home
