Really nervous for starting and the side effects too…

Hello,

after going to and from the pros and cons of montano, I’m really apprehensive about starting. I have around 3-4st to lose. I am taking Sertraline already and worried about the side effects that may occur. Any advice on how to curb the side effects and take the plunge?
if like to do this as healthily as possible too so any advice greatly appreciated!

There seems to be several threads a week started on this same theme. I really recommend reading back through this part of MN and you will see that so many of us have had none, or barely none.

The healthiest way to do WLI is to treat it as an aide, so you lose the weight while also rethinking your whole way of eating. Don't rush to lose weight too quickly or jump through the doses too fast.

I’m also surprised by the Avalanche pf posts worried about side effects, especially considering 80 percent of people get none, and most who do it’s mild gastro which is usually caused by eating the wrong foods.

I didn’t have many bad side effects. A bit burpy on day 2 after each jag.

sometimes I’d feel a bit off but that was because I wasn’t eating enough or drinking enough water

so drink lots of water and focus on eating protein and green vegetables

go easy on carbs and avoid fatty food and alcohol especially at the start

I’ve lost 5.5 stone and feel great. Best thing I’ve done

I started on 8 July last year and have lost 4 stone. The time has flown by; worst side effect has been sulphur burbs and a bit of constipation. Even the jab itself has never hurt, and I’m needle phobic. Try to read as many of these threads as possible because they have loads of great information and support. The best part of MN is right here.

Bear in mind that the majority of people won’t be having side effects and therefore won’t be posting about them. Discussions online are always skewed towards people who are experiencing issues and are asking for advice. So it’s not representative of the typical experience.

I’ve had a couple of instances of gastric side effects but overall I am thrilled about taking Mounjaro and the resulting weight loss. If I could have started sooner I would have.

Yes it makes you wonder why.

Although actually I do get ads coming up on Instagram about "alternatives" to WLI so you don't get all those terrible side effects. Propaganda.

No side effects for me either. Some slightly sulphurous burps for a couple of days, then nothing else. I feel amazing (lost 3 stone, maintaining on a low dose now)

With any luck, you'll be absolutely fine. I have lost 7 stone in the last year, with very little by way of side effects, mostly constipation and a regrettable response to a recent accidental over-consumption of Angel Delight. As others have said, think about what you're eating, just as you would if dieting. Fresh, minimally processed stuff might be helpful for avoiding gastric upsets. Small but regular amounts of food might also help. Avoid high fat/high sugar foods (I am particularly repelled by deep fried food and cake, which is a complete change from how I was) as these can cause tummy upsets in some people.
