The new Mounjaro pens

I've had an email from Med Express saying the style
of pens will be changing. Has anyone had a new one and can you say if it still contains a 5th dose if removed manually? Thanks

Also wondering this! Just got the email

So far it's only the 5 mg pens affected, although the rest will follow.

The new style has reduced the liquid in the pen so you will have a few mls spare to allow for priming the needle but definitely not enough for a full fifth dose.

RoseField1 · 20/05/2026 17:53

The new pens don't contain enough for a 5th dose. From what I've read on here it's 1/4 to 1/3 of a dose

This is a good read about the new style pens and the mods are creating a list of the pharmacies who are already dispensing the 5 mg.

AddledPeacock · 20/05/2026 20:23

Hmm, that was my first thought too re the extra dose!

Allmarbleslost · 20/05/2026 20:47

There won't be an extra dose that's the whole point of the new pen

Twasasurprise · 20/05/2026 20:53

Cloud Pharmacy have already dispensed a new 5mg to me. I've not started it yet, but there clearly won't be enough for a full bonus dose. Perhaps a 1/4 or so of a dose, if very frugal with priming.

alwayshavebeenfemale · 20/05/2026 22:13

Thanks everyone. The extra dose has been my justification for spending £300 per pen. But if this reduces the number of doses by 1 for me I really don't think I can justify the costs 😢😢

Why are you spending £300? If you shop around there are loads of pharmacies offering first time discounts which bring even a 15mg pen down to around £260.

@RenegadeKeeblerElf Do you have to send photos and start a new sign up process each time? Thanks

Yes, but for the sake of £40 a month I think it's worth it.

Are you on 15mg? If not, you can also save money per dose by going to a higher dose pen but using your smaller dose from it.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 22/05/2026 13:09

My new pen came from medexpress today. 5mg. It’s one of the new styles with less stuff in it so 4 doses.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 22/05/2026 13:12

I’m going to go up to a 7.5mg pen, take 6mg out a time which I think will give me 5 weeks worth of doses. I want to go up slightly from 5mg. I might also try injecting every 8 days not 7 and see if I can string it out slightly longer.

i really hope this new super drug gets approved soon and maybe the price of mj might drop then.

Linda983 · 28/05/2026 21:51

I had one of the newer pens recently and mine still seemed to have a bit remaining 😊 I’m on Mj through a women’s health programme and they’d mentioned the pen style changing, but it didn’t seem massively different day to day.

Linda983 · 29/05/2026 15:54

I had the same email and the new pen does look a bit different. I’m on Mounjaro through a women’s health programme alongside keeping things simple at home and I’ve just followed the dosing as it’s marked rather than trying to get anything extra out of it. Keeps it less stressful day to day🙂
