For Mounjaro Users who has been on for several months - Dose Advice Pls

Hi,
i would like to understand from people who has been on Mounjaro for several months or longer….. Very specific question.

Has your weight loss increased when you increased your dose?
How did you break through the plateaus?
Did you up the dose when your appetite suppression waned or to carry on losing at a steady pace?

thank you so much

I was only on 2.5mg for a month, but then stayed at the higher doses for at least 3 or 4 months each. I only moved up when I felt that the dose wasn't really working any more and I was chasing the same 1 or 2 lbs up and down.

I've been on for a year and only moved up to 12.5mg 3 weeks ago.
I'm a bit of a slow loser in that I have lost just under 5 stone but I do put some on when on holidays (have had 3) and then have to work at getting the lbs off again.

For me I have also given up alcohol and vaping due to a health issue ten months ago so I am allowing myself more little chocolate treats after dinner than perhaps I should do which is obviously having a bit of an impact on my slow but steady progress on Mounjaro.

I recognise that if I absolutely cut out that little sweet treat after dinner more pounds would come off, but realistically losing weight, plus giving up wine plus giving up vaping all together is quite a big thing so I am not being as hard on myself as perhaps I should.

I’m done the following..
Month 1 on 2.5mg
Month 2 on 5mg
Months 3, 4 and 5 on 7.5mg.
I’ve now reached my goal (actually a little more than my goal) and I’ve just took my last 7.5 jab.
I’ve got 2 5mg pens left, I’m planning on doing 5mg for 5 weeks and then 2.5mg for 10 weeks by micro dosing.
I’ve lost 3 and a half stone.

lottlecat · 17/05/2026 15:41

I didn’t increase for about 14 months I just stayed in 2.5mg. I lost more in the earlier months then it slowed a bit. Went through a 6 week plateau where I maintained and then rejigged my diet and started losing again. Moved up to 5mg when I started eating far more than I needed to.

I didn’t like the high suppressive feeling I got at the start so I tried very hard to go low and slow and it had paid off. I am 9 stone lighter and losing around a pound a month which I’m really happy with for the final stone.

Furrrrreal · 17/05/2026 16:20

I think it's all very personal, depends on how you respond to the drug, tune in to what is happening,if you feel you can eat a balanced healthy amount of food each day and lose steadily you're on the right dose,if however you are excessively hungry and snacky you need to up,if you are nauseous and sick you need to tweak down, I stayed on for over a year most of that in maintenance, never going above 3.75, I lost 5 and a half stones.

RobinHumphries · 17/05/2026 18:45

I was on 2.5mg for a month. 5.0mg for 2 months. Had sickness, diarrhoea and severe appetite suppression with 5.0mg so stayed on it for the second month to see if I’d get used to it. I didn’t. Someone advised me to actually up my dose so then went up to 7.5mg and the symptoms stopped. My answer is everyone is different and you have to find the right way of doing it for you.

Mysticmaiden · 17/05/2026 21:56

I have been on mj for 15 months and wegovy inbetween for 3 months.
I was prediabetic when I started so the doses all wore off quite quickly for me, and I was literally ravenous and craving carbs and sugar everytime suppression wore off, satiety also wore off at same time and food noise hit me hard so i definitely needed to move up as i couldnt live like that with extreme hunger, worse than before mj.
I barely felt any different on 2.5mg, zero suppression and slight satiety and food noise reduction. 5mg gave me some suppression and satiety but then fully wore off after 5 weeks, 7.5mg for 7 weeks, 10mg was the first dose where I had week long suppression rather than only 3-5 days after jabbing weekly and it resolved my high blood sugar symptoms and yes in fact did make losses quicker and easier. It only lasted 7 weeks then suddenly zero suppression and satiety, same as 12.5mg only around 8 weeks. When I got to 15mg it defeated me, I was oversuppressed and lost 6lbs that month from bmi 25 so was too fast. I then started tapering down and lost a further stone doing that. Now I'm at bmi 21.8.
I only had 2 weeks when I didn't lose in that whole time because i was strict with calorie counting, other than that time of month when I had my period and gained a few lbs and then lost them everytime, and the 2 weeks I didn't lost was when I ate too many carbs. Reducing carbs increased my losses and made them a lot easier too.

morbidcuriosity · 17/05/2026 22:21

keep going up till you find the dose that works for you.. Ive been on 10mg for 13 months now, reached goal with that and now maintaining.. I would love to stay on this forever but cost wont let me..
Am going to try come back down the strength soon though..

Thank you sooooooo much for all your responses and sharing your experiences. I really really appreciate it.

I am keen to know about the rate of weight loss on the different doses.
Has it stayed the same or you saw more weight loss at higher doses?

I am the a brides maid at my friend’s wedding and need to lose 12 kg in 3.5 month as we already got the dress from the US last year when I was a lot smaller. There is no way I can get another dress and I don’t want to disappoint my friend, of course. I don’t mind (and prefer) losing slowly but after the wedding.

I have been on 2.5 mg for 3 weeks, I have good appetite suppression, eat very cleanly, drink 2.5 L of water and exercise daily. I lost 3.2 kg but I need to carry on at the same pace until the wedding then I will relax it.

i didn’t have side effects so I think I can tolerate 5 mg only if it will keep my weight loss at the same pace. The two clinicians I spoke with told me to go on 5mg to maximise my weight loss but of course they want me to pay more. Hence I am asking you all.

Did you lose more on the higher doses?

thank you 💙

Everyone is different so it’s impossible to say. I’m on a thread where some have lost a Stone since Dec even though they’ve moved up the doses while others have lost nearly 3 stone on 2.5mg.
I would suggest sticking to 2.5mg if it’s still working for you.
It’s annoying when weight loss slows but you have to look at the bigger picture, I’ve had months I’ve barely lost 2lb and other months I’ve lost 8lb. Now I’m almost at goal I’ve noticed my biggest loses have happened when I’ve done intermittent fasting and weight training.

You need a calorie deficit of almost 900 a day to achieve that loss, which is pretty aggressive. My understanding (happy to be corrected!) is that going up a dose only supports weight loss to the extent it allows you to eat fewer calories. It doesn’t make you lose more weight, if you eat the same. So I guess it depends whether you think you can maintain your current calorie intake in your current dose or if you need more suppression. Have you been calorie counting? Has the weight loss been consistent over the month or did you have a big drop at the beginning and less since? Can you add activity to make the calorie deficit requirement less aggressive? For example walking 5km would mean you could eat an extra 250 calories which would bring your required deficit down closer to what’s considered healthy (usually around 500 a day).

Kitt1 · 18/05/2026 10:10

Your health is FAR more important than a dress!

If you lose weight too quickly (as some on here have done), you also lose valuable muscle mass and bone density which cannot easily be repaired.

Carry on taking MJ sensibly and add in some exercise and if you won’t reach your goal in time, pay a seamstress to take the dress out a bit.

LuckStruck · 18/05/2026 13:50

Thank you so much for your advice and you very helpful tips. I have been doing intermittent fasting (IF) for the last couple of year and carried on IF after I started Mounjaro.
I walk about 7-10 Km a day.

I lost 1.5 kg first week and then 1 kg the second week. And 0.7 kg the last 2 weeks.

The clinicians said that my objective is not unreasonable but at the top end end of the range as it is just under 2 lb per week. As a lot of people on mounjaro, I had a lot of past failures with weight loss so I am terrified of plateauing and not continuing to lose. It is not about the dress, it is about not disappointing my friend. I will feel terrible.

I count my calories and minimise the carbs and manage to eat about 80 g of protein and trying to up that even more.

I can certainly stick to 900 cal deficit a day (thank you for the helpful calculation) without a lot of effort.

Maybe I should stick to 2.5 mg since there is no correlation between the dose and the rate of weight loss and I have good suppression.

I want to start weightlifting (thank you for the advice) and maybe I can up my water intake to 3 L if I plateau and maybe go to 3.75 mg.

Depending on how you feel about it, you could order a 5mg next time round and do half doses initially, which gives you headroom to move up the doses within the pen if you plateau (IYSWIM). You would need to keep your pen in the fridge as you would be using it for more than 30 days and you would need extra needles. You'd need to work out how to administer a partial dose (I don't know if pens differ) using your pen but loads of people do it so you can definitely find out.

Onenotsosmallstep · 18/05/2026 22:55

I’m 14 months into my mj journey. Everytime to colour changes on this chart I changed my dose by 1.25mg starting from 2.5mg. I moved to 13.75mg last week after weigh loss slowed right down for the last month. I’ve lost 12st 4lbs in total and am almost exactly half of my starting weight.

Wow, you’ve done amazingly well!

RockinCara · 19/05/2026 10:21

I haven’t had any difference on any of the pens (just going onto 15mg). No suppression on any. Weight loss was fast at the start, but slowed a fair bit after three or four months, and slowed a lot after six months. Now, at a year in, it’s absolutely snail paced, with a massive plateau recently! But I’m plodding on.
In your shoes I would try the 5mg pen, you can always go back down if you don’t like it.

LuckStruck · 19/05/2026 16:07

Thank you so much for your responses and advice and sharing your experiences and certainly the incredible WL graph. I am very grateful.
I do worry that while my body is still working, I should up the dose a bit to continue to lose before my body gets too used to being in a Calorie deficit. based on my past experience, thing come to a halt after couple of months and I need to lose the weight for the wedding. I have ordered the 5 mg pen and will try one more week on 2.5 and then move up to 3.75 and see how I react and continue to test the dose. I will keep you updated 💙
