Moving up to 5 - what to expect?

After 4 weeks on 2.5 Mounjaro I’ve just done my first 5 injection. No real side effects other than significant diarrhoea after my first ever jab, and feeling nauseous if I’ve had too much wine. What can I expect on the new dose?

I have always found that I have side effects on the first new dose then it settles. So you might find something similar. For me it’s headaches, occasional funny tummy. But literally only from the first jab of the new dose.

fatigue aswell but depends if your suffer with that as a side effect. It’s the main reason I can’t wait to stop them!

I didn't notice any difference. I've only lost a few pounds. I've been on the 5mg dose for 3 weeks but bought 2 pens at once. I guess I have 5 more doses then up to 7.5mg.

JFI, You don’t actually need to move up to the next dose unless you’re no longer getting any suppression. Was 2.5mg not doing anything for you?

Some people do need to move up to 5mg or 7.5mg before the suppression really kicks in, but it’s not universal. Every body reacts differently. If you’re getting bad side effects on 5mg, maybe consider dropping down to 3mg or 3.5mg next week and moving up more gradually?

Lots of users tend to stay on the lower doses for longer now as moving up too quickly can be problematic if you’ve reached the maximum dose and still have a fair bit to lose.

I only move up in small increment of 0.5mg by click counting and after 8 months I’m still only on 3.5mg and only have one more stone to go.

I've been on Mounjaro for 7 months and only moved up to 5 mg approximately six weeks ago. I took 2.5 mg for many months and 3.33 or 3.75 mg for a while too. I'm now at goal so trying to work out maintenance. I've stayed on 5 mg and have vomited twice. Once a couple of weeks ago and again only this morning. I've felt nauseous a fair bit too. I'm planning to go back down a few mg on my next shot.

Thanks all. 24 hours in and no side effects. Just zero appetite and not eaten yet today. Thinking I might have been better sticking with 2.5 after all.

Side effects for me were typically a day or 2 later… so kicked in days2/3 after the jab then eased by day 5. Early weeks was nausea like morning sickness, and suppression / inability to finish a meal.

its still early days at week 5, you might be fine no side effects or you might find something hits you in a day or so…. A lot of people don’t get side effects at all, and for those that do, it’s a case of seeing what works.

Just take it easy and see how you feel day by day. If you are losing, then stay at current dose, don’t go up unnecessarily.

I’ve just done my 4th 5mg jab. Second week I had very loose stool all day which was alarming, and zero appetite most of the time. Having to force myself to eat. I even lost weight on holiday. I lost 1 stone in 8 weeks, so will drop back down to 2.5 next week as I feel the 5 has been to much for me.

@herewegoagian you should absolutely move down to 2.5mg if you feel 5mg is too strong for you.

1 stone in 8 weeks is a perfectly healthy rate of loss, especially at the beginning. You should aim to lose between 1 and 2 pounds per week and you're within that range. A lot of us on the January starters thread lost a similar amount (sometimes more!) in the first 2 months.

Congratulations on your weight loss!
