Advice on whether to continue, increase or switch weight loss injections

Morning all
I've been on Mounjaro since last September and lost just over 2 stone. Which is ok but not amazing. I need to lose at least another 2 stone even to get to a weight that I'd be happy with, never mind no longer being overweight.
I lost 18lb of that in the first 3 months. The last few months weight loss has averaged 2lb per month. I'm on 10mg dose currently, so my options are

  1. Keep going on same dose, very slow, getting slowly more broke
  2. Up the dose to 12.5mg, even more expensive, but will weight loss be boosted??
  3. Switch to cheaper Wegovy and hope that the change has a boosting effect (but could just be worse as MJ is supposed to be the drug that facilitates the best weight loss)
  4. Wild card: stop altogether, have a month off, then start again on the lower dose of 2.5mg MJ, hoping that the time off will give the body a reset, then I'll experience the bigger initial weight losses that I began with last September.
Has anyone tried any of these approaches? Any advice? Thank you!

For me it would depend on why the weight loss has been slower than you would like and what benefits you feel you aren't getting from your current dose. Is it that the suppression isn't strong enough so you are struggling to stick to a calorie deficit? If so then going up a dose might help. The medication doesn't make you lose weight on its own, it is a tool to support you. If you want to lose weight more quickly you need to be in a bigger calorie deficit, a higher dose may help with that if the issue is appetite/food noise, but it would be sensible to look at your intake first and think that through.

Theres not really enough detail in your post to see what the actual issue might be, could you share a bit more?

Have you (re)calculated your TDEE? What calories are you aiming for each day, are you tracking them? Is the problem sticking to a deficit, and if so, what’s getting in the way (snacking, alcohol, etc.)?

Are you keeping to the basics, reducing carbs, sugar, sweeteners, UPF, and focusing on protein, fibre, whole foods? Are you keeping hydrated and moving if you can?

Your medication dose and how much you’ve lost so far doesn’t really give enough context to go on.

Are you weighing and tracking food? Are you eating mostly whole food. Do you know your TDEE? Hard to advise without this

I lost weight on mj then had a year gap and am back on wegovy due to cost and side effects of higher dose mj. I’m getting on better with wegovy but had to start from scratch and it didn’t start working until month 3. So you’ll likely have a few months wasted money that could have been invested in mj higher dose. I’d go up but also focus on calorie counting and good choices in your position.

Yes, that’s a slow rate of loss especially as you’re already up to 10mg.

What’s your diet like? I think if you’re not paying close attention to what you’re eating, you’re probably still eating too much overall.

Are you counting calories and prioritising protein and fibre and low carbs and low fat?

If I eat over 1400cals, I struggle to lose weight. I’ve also been on MJ since September and have lost 4 stones so I’m pretty average with weight loss and I haven’t gone above 3.75mg. It slowed down after Christmas when I was definitely eating too much so I’m back to calorie counting again.

Ah honestly I think this is really common 💛 the big losses at the start can make any slowdown feel worse than it actually is. I’m on MJ too and I’ve seen loads of people mention plateaus before things started moving again. But with anything dose-related, it’s probably worth checking in with your provider before deciding whether to stay, increase, or switch 😊
