WWYD? 28 clicks left on pen, I want 40

Looking for suggestions.

I’ve got 28 clicks left on my pen due to dose adjustments I’ve made along the way. I really want to extract 35 or 40 next time. Would you click the 28 and then withdraw the rest using an insulin needle? Or would you draw all 40 using the needle, or something else?

Assuming this is Mounjaro, I would use a syringe and extract 0.4ml for a 2/3rds dose from whatever strength pen you’ve got. I’d personally rather do that than do two separate injections. You’d have another 0.4ml left in the pen probably too.

I also would just use a syringe todo one jab rather than faffing with two separate ones.

Once I do it, will the extraction of liquid pull/suck the plunger down, or will the remaining liquid now be mixed with air in the chamber?

The plunger gets sucked down, in my experience. But normally I’m using all the leftover medication, so haven’t ever left any medication in the pen for another week.

I’d measure the amount with an insulin needle. I hate waste if there is only 0.3ml in the pen and I want more I’d drain the dregs with an insulin needle and then take the number of clicks from the next pen.

The plunger will go down with the liquid.

So how much is in the golden dose ona 7.5 pen? I used a syringe and got what i think is 1ml is that right?

@jimjack25 Assuming you mean Mounjaro given the "7.5 pen".

The leftover medication will be the same volume (in ml) regardless of the strength (in mg) of the pen. All pens have 2.4ml of medication for 4 lots of 0.6ml doses. Then there is the extra medication to allow for priming and so on, which is usually around another 0.6 to 0.9ml left once the 2.4ml has been used up.

If you extract with a 1ml syringe, they are usually marked in "units" from 0 to 100. You are very unlikely to have got 100 units (1ml) out of the pen if you've done 4 normal doses from it. If you do have 1ml from a 7.5mg pen, then that's a dose of 12.5mg.

Thank you so mich for your help, im struggling to get my head around it though 😂 so i took 30 clicks from a 10 pen and the remaining golden dose from the 7.5 pen . Im assuming the 30 clicks is 5ml so unsure how much I've taken today! Kinda wish i hadnt messed about with the golden dose 🤦🏻

@jimjack25 You're mixing up ml (volume) and mg (strength) for a start which will add to your confusion. I would strongly recommend not making up your own doses if you are confused or unsure about the amount of medication you've injected yourself with. You need to check and be certain before you take any action. Especially if you are using different pens at different strengths in different amounts!

30 clicks from a 10mg strength pen is a dose of 5mg.

IF you had already done 4 normal doses from the 7.5mg strength pen, then the remaining medication volume would be somewhere between 0.6 and 0.9ml, which from a 7.5mg pen is somewhere between 7.5mg to an 11.25mg dose. You think you had 1ml in the syringe, which doesn't seem likely, but could be possible if you had not done 4 full doses. As I said before, 1ml from a 7.5mg pen is 12.5mg.

So you have injected yourself with somewhere between 12.5mg (5mg + 7.5mg) and up to 17.5mg (5mg + 12.5mg). Most likely to be 5mg + 11.25mg for a total of 16.25mg.

What dose were you trying to inject? What dose have you been on in the last few weeks? Why are you mixing pens, clicks and syringes? So many questions.

Honestly, it’s frightening how many people are messing around with their doses when they have no idea how to calculate them properly. I mean, why would you??
