Any tips for starting Wegovy and managing diet alongside it?

Hi, I have my first order of Wegovy heading my way. Just wondered if anyone has any tips?

I've not tried anything like this before. Perimenopause and some life stuff has meant my weight has increased to the point that ive just tipped into the obese range. I'm struggling to exercise as I just get injured (I guess as I'm carrying too much extra weight).

Do you need to calorie count? If so, what calories do you aim for? Do you aim for high protein, low carb?

Thanks, really hoping they work for me x

Theres a huge amount of information available online about Wegovy, and the pharmacy you ordered with should have that info available on their website or they should/will email it to you when your prescription is approved.

Asda Online Doctor has loads of articles, this one is good as an overview about Wegovy, and includes a section about diet and exercise, with links to further detail:

Thanks @SilenceInside I have been doing my own research, it wasn't just an impulse purchase. It was a comment I read on this section that made me ask here. The people who know most about these weight loss jabs at the moment are the ones who have been taking it... which makes sense as, relatively speaking, this is a new area. I just wanted to know from those who've been there.

So from the information available about Wegovy and Mounjaro, they help you lose weight by reducing your appetite, your feelings of hunger and they help you feel fuller quicker and for longer when you eat. Those effects mean that you can more easily eat in a calorie deficit which will enable you to lose weight.

You don’t need to calorie count, if you are happy with other methods of making sure you are in a calorie deficit. Lots of people do calorie count, just like on a typical diet, and you’d be looking at the same kind of calorie deficit. So to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week you are looking at around 500 calories less than your maintenance calories. You can work that out using a TDEE calculator online.

You may find that your appetite is quite low, even from the start, and then you might want to track calories to make sure you are managing 800 cals plus a day. But that can be on average across the week, where your appetite is lower in the days after each injection and a bit higher later in the week.

Lots of people eat high protein low carb, if that suits you. It’s helpful to get a decent amount of protein to help with maintaining muscle mass. You’ll see people recommending quite large totals to aim for, which you could try if you like. Some people find that they go off carbs, particularly processed carbs, when on WLI, just depends on how you individually feel.

Thank you. I have always found high protein diets are really effective for me, I just loose momentum. So i am hoping that using that as my diet plan with Wegovy will help to be consistent and keep going. 🤞anyway. Thanks for your reply x

I just started taking Wegovy last week, I don’t know if it’s like this for everyone but I haven’t really felt much appetite suppression in that I still get hungry and want to eat but I’ve been able to calorie counted this week and stick to my diet for the first time in months so it is definitely helping! I also think my cravings seem to have almost gone, we’ve been down the coast a few times this weekend and usually as soon as I smell the fish and chip shop I’m craving them but I really haven’t! x

@LauraC1984 thank you. Good luck to you... mine arrives in the next couple of days. Looking forward to getting started x
