I’ve been vomiting after eating fish sometimes. Have been on 2.5mg since October with relatively few side effects. Am down 35lbs.

I did try 5mg for a couple of weeks, that’s when the vomiting started. So sm back on 2.5mg. Had been ok the last couple of weeks then I missed a dose so had a break of a week - the sickness returned yesterday.

It happens a few hours after I eat. My tummy gets hugely bloated and really uncomfortable them just empties itself of everything. Am fine afterwards just tired.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice re preventing this would be greatly appreciated.

Am pescatarian so not hugely keen to give up fish.

Peppermint oil tablets help hugely with nausea.

TulipsDaffsAndSunshine · 02/04/2026 08:12

Thanks. When do you take them? Have they stopped you from projectile vomiting or just from feeling sick?

The bloated belly thing is accompanied by a feeling of bad indigestion then whoosh. It’s happened a few times in the last month.

I experienced nausea and couldn’t stay with it. Lasted 2 weeks.
if you are regularly vomiting you may be eating too much (for your wli stomach). You will also ruin your tooth enamel

WappityWabbit · 02/04/2026 09:01

Are you still getting suppression on 2.5mg or do you think you need to increase?

You could try increasing by 0.5mg weekly rather than jumping to double the dose.

I’ve only gone up to 3.75mg with click counting as I’m sure 5mg will be too strong for me and 3.75mg gives me very good suppression. I moved up to 3mg for about 2 months then 3.5mg.

Also if you’re still eating 3 normal size meals a day, try smaller portions but eat more frequently if you’re hungry.

Could you be eating too much or the wrong kind of food, for example is the fish fried or battered. Generally it’s due to type of food and or quantity.

Good idea for a thread @TulipsDaffsAndSunshine !

I'm sorry you're experiencing nausea, have you tried eating little and often?

I get a side affect that I haven't really heard anyone mention, which is hives/ red hot skin at the injection site.

I've just taken injection 4 and have had it for the last 2 injections. I'm only on 2.5 but won't be able to increase if this continues as it's obviously some form of allergic response.

I've been taking anti-histamines but they are not really touching it. Very annoying,

I hardly eat anything!
MFP shows me I often find it hard to eat more than 1200 cals
The vomiting was definitely linked to going up a dose and my digestion slowing too much.
It’s just annoying that it’s always linked to fish. I had a small salmon steak and home made pea soup. All came back out.
The thing is on other days I’ve eaten more and been fine. Guess i’ll have to stick to veggie sources of protein. Am on my last 6lbs here, so planning to cut down my dose even further in the next couple of months.
The thing is I’m at the gym every week and if I don’t eat enough i get really dizzy.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with fish?

I think little and often is a good idea @taratill 👍

I haven’t had issues with the injection site. Where are you injecting? Are you injecting straight from the fridge?

I have vomited twice while on it, (over a year) once after eating mackerel in olive oil, was awful really bad projectile all night, I'm OK with steamed fish, but put me off the tinned stuff, I had a bit of nausea too, always had pepto bismol to hand which worked miracles, haven't had any side effects for months though, I'm in maintenance.

Booksandcheese · 03/04/2026 15:03

I had really bad nausea on 5mg. I found that sipping ginger tea helped, it's supposed to aid digestion. Before I went up to 5mg only felt ill after greasy or oily food. After I went up to 5 it was constant nausea so I dropped back down then weaned myself off as I was approaching goal.

I’m struggling with the headaches. Get them from Days 1-4 and my prescription migraine tablets don’t even help. I’ve had one week that I didn’t get them, week 8, but they were back with a vengeance in Week 9. I’ve got my first golden dose this week and going to try and get a 2mg dose as that’s what I drop to on Day 5 and it seems to be when headaches ease off. Also trying electrolytes this week, how many a day do people take?

Definitely take electrolytes - it’s easy to get dehydrated at first. Read packet, but I’d take up to 2 a day, as long as you don’t have any kidney issues.

My problem is I’m a pescatarian who eats fish most days! Have gone veggie for the moment as I wean off.

I’ve found a couple of esomeprazole helped with the acid stomach, but it’s not a permanent solution. Having said that, I think acid is meant to be fairly temporary so hopefully I won’t need to take it going forward.

Very common. I used a blister plaster over the injection site immediately, stopped it swelling up and itching.

I had this side effect on Mounjaro and Numan wouldn’t supply me - said it was an allergic reaction
