2.5 and already lost 8lbs in 6 days??

I am looking for some advice please?
I started Mounjaro last Sunday. I'm 5ft 1 and 13 stone 12 so a good 5 stone to lose.

I have been a binge eater over 30 years and often eat 8 chocolate bars a day along with big portions of my 3 meals a day. It's a miracle that I am not double my size.

I have had years of therapy but the food addiction and noise was always relentless.

Had my first injection on Sunday and weighing myself every couple of days. For the first time in my life my head is calm and I genuinely do not want to binge, but I am also not hungry and really struggling to eat at all.

I am eating high protein fat free yoghurt with lots of fresh berries and salads with chicken and tuna, but struggling to eat over 500 calories a day. I have just been shopping and got some nut and seed salad toppers to up the calories.

In 6 days I have lost just over 8lbs. Will this get less and less over the next few weeks to a more reasonable 3lbs.

A lot of initial weight loss is water weight but the concern is if you aren't even hitting 500 cals a day not only will you lose a lot of weight, you will lose muscle, get saggy skin, be exhausted, lose hair and the lack of nutrition could cause serious health conditions or diseases. If you can't stomach solid food, try some protein shakes, I make it for breakfast every morning and have done for over a year and I buy the powder from myprotein but as you really need some asap, you can buy the ready made from any shop/supermarket.
Add some eggs to your diet maybe for breakfast with a slice of wholemeal bread. I've just had a 2 egg cheese and tomato omelette with a chicken breast grilled in airfryer for lunch with beetroot and salad.
Work out your tdee on www.tdeecalculator.net to give you a guide of what to aim.for and track your food. Nuts and avocado are good to help increase your calories, also cottage cheese.

Congratulations on your new life!! 🎉

Yes, it’s normal to lose a decent amount in the first couple of weeks of ANY new diet regime, not just MJ.

You’ve more likely lost excess fluid rather than just fat at this stage, particularly as you’re struggling to eat enough calories. It’s really important to eat sensibly because if you don’t have enough nutrients, it will affect things like muscle mass and bone density. But it sounds like you’ve worked out a healthy eating plan, so that’s really good.

To be honest, it’s sensible to lose no more than about 2lbs a week if you can, rather than trying for faster results. You will still get to your goal.

I was a similar situation and wanting to lose 5 stones and after 7 months, I’ve lost 3 stones, so I’m really happy with my progress and so is my GP.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 28/03/2026 16:24

my suppression was super high when I started on 2.5mg and I struggled to eat. Some days I could only manage toast but I stuck with it and my body got used to it and eating became more normal but I was able to portion control which I’ve never been able to do successfully before. Like you I’m 5ft 1. I was 12 stone 9 starting and although I lost significant weight the First week or so it became more stable and it was more like a pound or pound and a half weekly loss. I now weigh 8 stone 5 and it’s incredible. Good luck to you.

Daerring · 28/03/2026 16:38

Exactly what others have said, I lost about half a stone in the first week, inflammation and water weight, you must eat more than 500 cals though, and as per PP, protein shakes are great for this, you really must keep up with the protein, it's really really important. It will taper off as you settle into a routine, make sure you eat plenty of fruit as well to keep you regular, I had a few bouts of excruciating pain from constipation, prunes and fruit were extremely good for helping with that, good luck sounds like you're a good responder, as was I, most likely you won't have to jump up the doses, I didn't go above 5,makes it cheaper.

nickdrakeslovechild · 28/03/2026 20:16

Thank you all for replying. I will try some protein shakes as my OH already takes those. As I am very active my TDEE is almost 2,000.

Priortise protein and add some strength training. Provided you can get around 100g protein and do 3-4 sessions strength training a week i wouldn’t worry about low intake. The main risk with a very low calorie intake is that your body will lose muscle. Some muscle loss is inevitable but you really want to keep it to under 20%. Body composition scales can be useful. Google “protein sparing modified fast”

DBatteryBand · 29/03/2026 18:49

Definitely prioritise protein, however I have never been able to stomach the protein shakes recommended on here. In the early days, I found good old fashioned chocolate milk was a godsend. It might not be as full of protein, but it will get your calories up and doesn't have that horrible texture that protein products have.

SexyFrenchDepression · 30/03/2026 00:42

I found the clear whey protein easier to stomach at first. I was same as you at first. I have lost just over 3 stone since November at an average of 2lb a week overall, 6lb in 1st week though.. BMI now just under 22.

0.5-1% of bodyweight is a healthy amount to lose.

KizzyKoala · 30/03/2026 03:09

It will lessen. I lost almost 7lbs in my first week. Could barely manage one milk shake over a few hours. It settles down don’t worry. I couldn’t have done it without protein shakes, I really like the pre-made ufit 50g protein ones or Huel. Not saying that’s the healthiest suggestion but it is better than skipping meals. Since end October/early November I’ve lost 3 stone 7lbs and just a pound or two off my target.

KizzyKoala · 30/03/2026 03:15

Oh and make yourself drink water - lots - throughout the day. I’ve had no side effects but swear this has has been key.

Theredjellybean · 30/03/2026 07:32

I was the same, 2.5 mg worked so well I used that dose for two months and lost 2.5 stone.
I didn't worry if I hadn't eaten much , and didn't prioritize anything. Just had what I felt like or could stomach.
I did stop my marathon training for the first few weeks.
But was back running long distances after that with no problem.
I'm now 18 months on and maintain on a micro dose every 2-3 weeks.
So don't worry and certainly don't force yourself to eat . Keep up your fluids and it will all settle down

This is really bad advice - if you don’t eat at least 40-50g of protein a day your body will cannibalise the amino acids it needs from your muscles - and that will result in muscle mass (often showing as rapid weight loss). This will increase risk of longer term problems (sarcopenia) but may not show for many years.

nickdrakeslovechild · 31/03/2026 20:43

Thanks everyone, just starting week 2 and definitely hungover this week. Managing more food so far so about 700 or so. I do avery physical daily pass time which gives me great muscles so fingers crossed I don't lose any of that.
I have just purchased a fancy set of scales that measures everything so looking forward to using that and it tracks on an app so will see if I am losing muscle and also checks on hydration.
My only negative side effect so far is being bitterly cold! Now with hot water bottles and wearing my oodie 😂

I was the same. 3st down now, 6 months later and still on 2.5mg.
