Sudden severe side effects after 18 months on MJ - anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping for a bit of advice or to hear if anyone’s had something similar.

I’ve been on Mounjaro for about 18 months now, and on the 12.5 dose for the past 6 weeks. Up until now I’ve been really lucky and haven’t had any major side effects.

After my injection on Friday, I became REALLY unwell on Sunday. From around midnight through to midday I had severe diarrhoea and stomach pain every 15 to 30 minutes, it was honestly relentless.

I took a full pack of Imodium between 3am and 6am but it didn’t help at all. I felt completely wiped out, slept on and off for the rest of the day, then slept straight through from 7pm to 7am.

By Monday morning I felt a lot better. I’ve been eating very lightly since then, my stomach still feels a bit tender and sore but nowhere near as bad as Sunday.

I guess my question is, has anyone else had a sudden, severe reaction like this after being on Mounjaro for a long time with little to no side effects?

I’m trying to work out whether this could be related to the medication, or if it’s more likely something like food poisoning or a bug.

Would really appreciate any experiences or thoughts, it really caught me off guard.

Thanks so much!

I’d hazard a guess it’s a bug/ food poisoning if you’ve never had side effects before & have not changed anything (dose etc) .. has it eased now?

Yes I did, it was when I got to 7.5 - exactly the same as you and it was horrendous. Lasted about 3 days. I’ve never had it since, so like previous poster I could also assume that it could have been something else even though it was day after jab.

It would not occur to me it was a side effect of meds I had been in for 18 months. Far more likely something you have eaten or a bug you picked up.

Sounds more like norovirus to me.

Ok that eases my mind a bit! Thanks all

I am on it the exact same length as you and on the same strength. I def think you have picked up a bug.

It is interesting as many people do as you do op. They assume any ailment they have is due to the meds, and that they don’t get sick normally. It sounds like a big, food poisoning etc.

I didn’t assume it was due to the meds but I was worried in case it was as I don’t want to have to come off it. I’ve lost 8 stone but still have 3 more to go, so not ready to end the journey yet

when i moved to 7.5 i had bad side effects, was feeling sick and then became sick for the first few days, the 2nd injection i had similar to you but afterwards i realised i likely had to norovirus. I was nervous about my 3rd 7.5 but i did that a few days ago and ensured i ate properly an hour before hand just incase and i was fine in the end.
