Arseholes!

It was totally inevitable I think. They've literally been giving away a fifth dose all this time, tbh I'm surprised it's taken this long to react and prevent people doing so.

I switched to Wegovy because of the price hike and you can't do a golden dose with that, and this last fortnight I've lost 5lbs despite going ten days between doses. I'd urge you to think about swapping over, it's much cheaper than Mounjaro. I've lost almost four stone.

Honestly, it’s the people posting all over the internet about irresponsible administration of the ‘golden dose’ who are to blame. I’ve seen so many people talk about giving themselves a larger dose on the fourth injection to make use of the left over product. It ruins it for people who are using it responsibly.

@FreshInks I think Eli Lilly will have much more relevant stats than Reddit/Mumsnet chat. They will know how many patients are being prescribed and will know exactly how ordering patterns tie up.

It is more likely being removed to balance the medication costs for Trumps most favoured pricing while maximising profit by increasing sales.

Although I wouldn't put it past them to have engineered the whole thing from the beginning to get the medication talked about and trending on as many platforms as possible as it was a ridiculous amount of excess medication to put in a vial when it was already well known even US patients were using syringes on their single dose pens.

ActoBelle · 09/03/2026 19:11

The huge difference is some months people will need to buy two pens in the same pay check. So while £250 or however much it is depending on dose might be manageable, £500 might not be.

People have very sensibly been using the surplus liquid for a regular, normal, fifth dose, within the 30 day usage window, rather than throw it away. They have paid for it. No one has been having a “larger fourth dose”.

Many people do take more when using the golden dose. Typically there is around 0.8ml left in the pen after 4 doses. Lots of people regularly take the whole amount of what is left, which is more than their normal dose. Others use it as a step up between current and next dose. I don't. But many people I know do.
